It's concerning to me that a party who wants to "fix the economy" does not want a CGT given Treasury, RBNZ, IRD, MBIE and the previous two TWG's have advocated in some way for a CGT. We're the only country in the OECD without one, we're one of the only countries in the world with issues related to housing skewed to the extreme degree they currently are. Yes, housing is expensive around the world but not to the same degree it is here. A CGT won't change the housing issues but it does lend the government more money to invest in the infrastructure that would allow those homes to be built in the first place. And it's fairer that landlords pay tax for their gains when their renters pay 20-39% of their tax for every hour of their life spent being productive.

Hmm, so National are going to remove the climate targets for agriculture and remove our agriculture GE free status which has huge economic value. For many global consumers, GE in agriculture allows for greater use of herbicides and pesticides. The best way to increase the value of our agriculture exports is to further build our reputation for being clean and green and yet National want to further industrialise the system with GE and increase the availability of fossil fuel. This is hardly future focussed thinking.

Your attitude resembles that of the Luddites, as they were called. You are twisting the comments Chris Luxon made to suit your narrative. Genetic Engineering is one of the advancing technologies, as is AGI and FSD, Full Self Driving. As with any advancment, there are potential hazzards, but they can be negotiated. The alternative is to stay safe in your cave while the world moves on. If you want to take that attitude, that's fine, but I do not want to live in a backward, third-world country ignorant of an improving future. The world will continue to evolve for the better. Who seriously believes living in a past era was a better time?

As a Father of three young children, my priorities are inflation, housing, and healthcare, which I think is what the majority of us Kiwis are voting on. Its a complex picture in India. The priority is feeding 1.4 billion people and when you have such a huge task at hand, there is bound to be issues. Today, India is self-sufficient when it comes to grains. You have a burgeoning middle class that is ready to pay for its goods. The challenge is for the small farmers to adapt and grow amidst all the chaos. There are huge opportunities when you think about it and I am not ignoring the pitfalls. Disappointing interview from Luxon. I think Tame nailed why Luxon is opposed to a CGT. What we need is a land tax on all residential property - tax land value only not improvements. This will encourage speculators and others who own residential land to develop or sell. Also to electrify NZ what about all new builds need solar panels and batteries to store electricity
@calamitycanyon9173

What form of renewable energy we use depends largely on geography and individual situation, and using batteries can cause significant harm to the environment under certain circumstances. Solar is a good option to have but there's not quite a one-size fits all solution. You might want solar here, hydro there, and wind throughout. In places like Australia, India, South Korea, and the US, nuclear is actually quite a sustainable option as well.

Jack you need to interview Michael Wood the same way you're interviewing Chris Luxon. And one needs to question the PM who gave 6 years and walks away a multimillionaire rather than a PM who already has done business and made honest $$$

Pretty ironic to point to Woods as incompetent for not keeping track of his airport shares (which he clearly did not handle well). Then for Luxon with a straight face go on national television and say he doesn’t keep track of his investments.

I'm not one for Labour but let's not be naive - This guy is as corporate as it gets and when he talks about genetic engineering he's thinking profits and reward, not health. Polar extremes aren't the answer and having an ex CEO as PM, they are going to be just as anti "for the people" as having a vapid ex fish n chip worker like Ardern. I think NZ never recovered from the 80's and 90's Uniparty takeover, and with so much of our country's culture hijacked from overseas, so much of our national identity diluted by globalism, this country just doesn't know what it wants to be anymore, let alone know what it is.

Absolute joke! You work hard, pay taxes, and save money and invest for rainy days, yet they still expect you to pay capital gains tax. On top of that, they encourage people to spend their money instead of saving. Adding insult to injury, Christopher Luxon has put in tremendous effort to work hard, save and invest, and we should appreciate hard work, saving, and investing instead of questioning someone how many houses they own.
