Those unibody 3x fans make something you almost never do (building a PC) a tiny bit easier at the cost of any flexibility for future builds. I've taken fans that were next to eachother on one build and split them up in later builds.And fans DO break sometimes, so you'll have to throw out all of it if something goes wrong with any of them.

Yeah i think roman is a bit out of touch with the average consumer here. he builds a LOT of pcs, so the convenience factor matters more to him. and he has access to basically any parts and components he wants so i doubt he's reusing the same case fans for like a decade across multiple different builds. ive had case fan bearingss fail. fanblades snap, and fan leds burn out. because i reuse my fans on every new pc build. they last a long time but if you're using them every day for a decade they all eventually fail. I have absolutely no interest in tripling the failure rate of my fans just for the "convenience" of not having to screw in a few screws once every like 5 years when i build a new pc

airflow is great...As long as its directed. just having holes everywhere is not enough. My current case is like that. full of holes. I actually had to ghetto-fy it a little and use duct tape to close off some of the case in order to bring the temps down. All in all I'm glad to see NZXT is coming to market with some decent hardware.

Still using an old Phantom 630 Big Tower (Also looking kinda "Star Wars"-ish, but in gunmetal grey + with an MSI sticker on the front several people already asked me where i got that Porsche case from. lol) and that thing still slaps and is so incredibly nice to work in, bc of its size. Fits 200mm fans into, making it silent af, has an additional fan at the side for the GPU, no RGB circus, a simple switch for the fans and a shit load of modular cages and extensions. So... say what you want about those 10 year old cases, but NZXT did some really good ones back then as well. Tho im thinking about modding the plasticy Front and Top panel myself at some point.

I've got to disagree with the triple fan idea, yeah maybe motors don't fail but I had 4 argb fans loose 1 or 2 colors (on single LED), due to overheating I suspect. But also been fixing PCs for friends and I had to replace like 8 fans due to motor failure (12-15 PC fixed)

@_xone5 ай бұрын
@@Dexx1s Yeah you're right, I just didn't think Roman's response really answered the issue of waste. It's been my experience that manufacturers just send replacements for low value parts like this, they don't repair them (Noctua even forces you to physically damage its fans and send photographic proof as part of the RMA process!). It then falls to the customer to dispose of waste responsibly, not all do, and you also have the problem of e-waste not always being 100% recyclable

@@_xone The way of handling it is realizing that the failure rate is extremely low. If 2% of them die, it's negligible, given at some point, every fan will die. You could argue that this way is better since it's using less material and packaging than 3 separate fans and those 3 are 100% going to die some day, creating more waste than this 3-fan combo. Most times, there's just no way to alleviate all negatives.
@sirius4k5 ай бұрын
I have definately fans died over time, I have replaced AIO, GPU, case fans. What I think is happening is that over time, everything in the case gets dusty and when I use a compressor to blow out the dust in the case, the dust gets forced into the fans and I'm not going to remove the fans beforehand because those are dusty as hell as well and I'm not going to clean them separately. It happens rarely, but it does definately happen. I have SO much dust, it's like living in the farmhouse in the Interstellar movie. Loosely related, I'm currently looking for table lamps that don't have integrated LED lamps that can't be replaced, because I don't want to throw the entire lamp away because of a faulty LED. I wouldn't buy this multifan thing either for the same reason.

The problem would not come with the reputable brands for the fans. The problem will come when the cheap of the cheap pick up on that fad of the monofans. That is when fans will start failing in a 1 out of the 3, or 2 out of the 3, and so on over some time.

I don't understand why fan manufacturers can't include a voltage polarity switch onboard, this would make it unnecessary to purchase reverse blades for esthetics & lower SKUs.
@That_Stealth_Guy5 ай бұрын
The fan blade design is not optimized for airflow by simply rotating the fan in the opposite direction by switching polarity. Sure it will move some air, but no where near the performance level it does as designed.
@Dexx1s5 ай бұрын
I saw a video that mentioned, as an aside, why those don't make sense. A big part of it was that the blades are made to effectively and efficiently go one way, and having your fans be underwhelming when reversed made no sense. Add in the complexity of adding in a motor for it and it's just not worth it over having two different SKUs, each dedicated to one direction. I also doubt the sales for reverse blade fans are that high either but the Swafan implementation works just fine.
