"O'Donnell Abú" was written by the Fenian songwriter Michael Joseph McCann in 1843. The title refers to Red Hugh O'Donnell (Aodh Ruadh Ó Domhnaill), who ruled over Tyrconnell during Tyrone's Rebellion, 1593-1603. The title itself is a Gaelic war-cry: “O’Donnell hurrah”.
Performed by Liam Clancy & Tommy Makem, 1977.

If only there was a referendum to change it back. Definitely won't be, sadly. But anyways if there was I don't think it would pass 😔

@@debhin I think we might have to in unity, the unionists won't accept the tricolour, it's seen as the PIRA national flag, so the Green Harp might come back into fray hopefully

No. Those sorry lot of Blueshirts of O'Duffy's thought they could even compare that Free State traitor to somebody like Red Hugh, so they copied the tune and made their own shit version.

So? Numerous Irish Rebel songs are sung in English, nothing new here. For some reason you glanced over all the historic context as to why English supplanted Gaelic to begin with. Please take your brain-dead critique elsewhere, or at least reconsider it.

Gael here. Most irish rebellion songs are sung in English for multiple reasons spreading from its the primary language in Ireland so all peoples will understand to it being used so it targets the people songs like this are addressed to
