They first played this medley at the Apollo Theater in Harlem NY. The joy on Daryl Hall's face during this performance is priceless.

If you have to pick one rabbit hole to dive down, jump head first into the "Daryl's House" rabbit hole. All the performances. ALL. OF. THEM. He invites artists from all different genres to come sing, and it's so cool because they perform old H&O classics, while Daryl and his house band backs and performs some of their guest's songs. It's good stuff, food for the soul, truly!

So Eddie is probably 45-46 in this. He only lived until 1992. Lung cancer. He was 53. Ruffin passed in 1991 at the age of 50. Also, a girl after my heart, I remember watching the movie when it premiered as a child. I was already obsessed with The Temptations and that movie made me love them more. Leon, was fantastic in it!

The original Temptations plus Dennis Edwards are the greatest singing group ever. Their list of hits is legendary as is their singing and choreography. They are truly legends whose music is still being enjoyed today. TEMPTATIONS FOREVER!

I love that Hall and Oates showcased this music in their live album/tour. It is their roots, that "Philadelphia Sound", soul from the 60s and 70s and a bit of doo wop from the 50s.

David Ruffin was amazing. Him doing I Wish it Would Rain is one of my go to tracks.

You rightfully referenced the requisite humility that Hank and Oates possessed to sing behind David and Eddie, we are reminded that it was also a moment of gratitude. The immensely talented Hall and Oates, of the “Blue Eyed Soul” moniker, were also bestowing homage to the R&B genre. True “class,”a very much missing component of (current) true artistry. ❤️

"Live Aid" 1985, I remember watching this live on TV back when, I was blown away! Some other the other folks who performed at Live Aid were Bob Dylan, The Boomtown Rats, Bryan Adams, The Cars, David Bowie, Diana Ross, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Paul Weller, The Police, The Pretenders, Queen, Sade, Status Quo, U2, Ultravox, The Who and many more. Britt, you need to react to Foreigner performing "I Wanna Know What Love Is" live from Live Aid in 1985 also, It'll mess you up in a good way!

The Temptations are still touring, featuring Dr. Otis Williams,age 82. He is the last surviving member of the original group. Faces have changed, but the quality is undiminished. Great harmony, the precise routines they're famous for, and five solo quality voices, each of which can and do lead a songs. I'm a lifelong fan and native Detroiter. I've loved them since I was12. I'm 73 and still in love!

I believe they were the only original Temptations that were available/alive to perform. You should look up Hall & Oates Live at the Apollo concert to get the full effect of them all performing with dressier clothes. If you love Papa was a Rolling Stone, you should look up "Live from Daryl's House" episode with the group Train. The lead singer of Train sings Papa was a Rolling Stone with Daryl.

The edit version of the full medley turned out to be a hit record in 1985. Remembering the Temptation movie, a lot of tragedy happened in the group with most of the original members passing before the age of 60.

Smokey wrote this song immediately after writing "My Girl," which went to No. 1 R&B and Pop, and is a true classic. "Get Ready" was No. 1 Soul, but only 29 on Pop. Of course it was covered by many groups afterwards and is well remembered today. However, at that time Berry Gordy fired Smoke from his spot was writer for the Tempts and Holland Dozier Holland replaced him. HDH was great, but what would Smokey have done????
@marksilverman45378 ай бұрын
Britt, please listen to Rare Earth's version of Get Ready. A soul classic. Then listen to David Ruffin's Walk Away From Love. Another R&B/Soul classic from the 70's.

There was a host of great soul bands in the 60s and we didn't miss out on them here in the UK but the Temptations were my favourite. So adventurous and funky. If you like skinny male singers, The Rolling Stones did a great Rock 'n' Soul cover of Ain't too Proud to Beg I think you'd love. Not to try and replace the original but I think to acknowledge it and reintroduce it to a younger audience as rock replaced soul for a while in popularity. Just sayin'. British bands revered the black Blues and Soul artists and incorporated a lot of their songs into their repertoire.

Eddie Kendricks had a small amount of cancer that was found in the early 80s. But he didn't get chemotherapy because he didn't want to lose his hair. Starting in the 80s he had issues hitting the high notes due to chain smoking. He died of cancer because of that. Which is tragic. David Ruffin is thin because he had a major coke addiction going on. It sabotaged his various comebacks in 80s up to 91 when he passed. Sorry to be debbie downer, but The Temptations saga is tragic.
