When I first encountered Ronnie on KZbin I didn't understand how talented he is... I learned by following him. Along the way he captivated me and like so many people, I became a fan. He is amazing... at his best he takes my breath away. I will always be a fan of his.
@ianboyle1026 Жыл бұрын
I like your comment. "Takes my breath away" says it all. We're witnessing the very gradual (and graceful) sunset of a career of high art. I don't know how well you know the game, but I've been playing for 60 years, and I've read all the books. Ronnie is the only player I've ever seen who consistently plays the game as it's supposed to be played. Like the idealized diagrams in the books. All the top pros are great potters, but he's the best position player ever. By a mile. Exquisite to watch.
@streetspirit956 Жыл бұрын
I feel he has under achieved in his career. To think he has competed in over 30 world championships but only won it 7 times. For somebody as good as him it really surprises me. As he has said though, particularly these days it seems he can play well in spells but the consistency isnt really there. Players do have a lot of chances against him
@ianboyle1026 Жыл бұрын
@@streetspirit956 Interesting comment, but I respectfully disagree. 7 out of 30 against perhaps the strongest cohort of fellow-professionals of all time looks pretty good to me. Both Steve Davis and Hendry have said that they dominated against relatively lesser competition. Also, the World Championship is a singular, and rather peculiar, tournament in format, context, etc., and almost requires a kind of specialist player to win it a lot. Ronnie has often said it doesn't really suit him, yet he's not only won it almost one in every four times he's played, he's done it over a 30-year period. While elsewhere winning more ranking tournaments, making more century breaks, more maximums (many at the crucible), and making more finals than anyone else, ever. Yes, he's fading now somewhat, but have a look at what he's just done: beaten a succession of the world's best, in a tournament they all wanted very much to win, with his B game! Under-achieved? Nah. We have been privileged to watch, from start to end, the career of nothing less than the Walter Lindrum of snooker. There can be no higher praise, and no higher achievement.
@frankberryfilms Жыл бұрын
When you watch Ronnie play, then listen to how he talks about his game afterwards, you get a sense of how outrageously high his standards are... he is implausibly great at the game, an absolute master, but he still feels he can do better. An absolute legend.
