HUGELY bias review without you knowing! You have "microphone socks" missing from the smaller of the headsets. I know it didn't come with it or might not have a 'secure' way to put it on, but it adds 80-90% of wind cancellation. So keep that in mind! I find it's easy to put the sock on with a touch of glue on back side of mic.

I drove a taxi for 25 years. I've been through over a hundred blue tooth headsets during the time, finally getting the Plantronics headset. I was happy with it, until I got into trucking. The biggest drawback with the Plantronics was the battery life. As a trucker, I'm using my Blue Parrot headset all the time, talking to people, forgetting to charge it when I'm sleeping. The battery life is crazy, over 12 hours of continental talk time. The Plantronics would last about 5 hours and then required charging. Your video was the best comparison video I've ever watched. Great job 👍

That's why this *comparison* is an apples to oranges comparison. One is compact and designed for function in one purpose and the other give up compactness for *features* which not everyone wants in a Bluethooth earpiece. The Parrot may be excellent in sound quality, but it's form isn't useful for those who simply want hands free connectivity with their cell phone.

This just confirmed that my husband's headset needs to be replaced. He's a trucker and uses blue parrot but the last 6months its been hard to hear him. I just thought the window was down because he smokes. Hes has this one for YEARS. When he first got it, i couldn't hear the truck at all and thought he wasn't in it. Only problem is the range. He drives a 53' and he'll break up some when doing a walk around. Just for safety reasons, i wish it had a longer range. The newer ones may have that though. Good test. Thanks for the video.

HUGE difference. the over ear set with boom mic wins the extreme noise test..I have the Plantronics. I’ve done similar tests. For some of you who don’t want the bulky set, I can say this: keep in mind that was an extreme test, not just windows down, but entire doors off, roof open, expressway speeds, jeez. Great if you’re gonna do that, but if you aren’t that extreme but want good noise suppression in more common general outdoor situations, I go to a windy beach with a busy road very nearby, working from my ipad and Plantronics and NOBODY can tell I’m calling from a windy beach with cars flying by. I ASK and they can’t tell I’m even outside. It’s when the noise gets more extreme like in this guys jeep test that the Plantronics shows its limits. In more common outdoor wind and big city traffic situations, I’d say the Plantronics wins due to good performance + form factor. In extreme noise, the Plantronics still handles it better than most bluetooth sets I’ve tried, with the exception of blue parrot if you can deal with that bulk.

As a truck driver, I’ve been using these for years. Beats ANY on/in ear set. I like Plantronics but they cannot compete with the big boys. My mother used to work for Plantronics in Santa Cruz California‘s headquarters so I do own the 5200 as well but my tried-and-true full-time headset is the blue parrot. Can’t beat them

Clearly the noise canceling on the Blue Parrot is hands down the best, but the voice transmission is better because of the boom being closer to your mouth. I was actually more surprised that the Voyager performed as well as it did. My cousin uses the Blue Parrot, I was on the phone with him and he told me he was cutting the grass... I could not believe it. I couldn't even hear the mower. So I was well aware of its capabilities.

The Presence is definitely a nice headset if you are looking for one of the smaller sleeker options. The main ones to look at for discrete options are Sennheiser Presence, Voyager 500, and Jabra Stealth.

Hey CPO with a little bit of effort you can learn to program the blue parrot unit so the very top button is a speed dial button and you can also just tap the bottom square button and use Siri on your phone very easily and 100% hands free from the phone. I drive a semi for a living and had the blue parrot bt350 for 3+ years with no issues and I’ve upgraded to the BT450 and have had it several months it’s the same basic size of the 350 but the headband is wider and has a cushion on it and the ear piece is also larger with more cushioning I stand behind either unit as I use mine daily as a long haul trucker both will last all day and recharge within a hour or so keep up the great videos and hope to see more work on CJ’s Tj as I own a Tj that I’m doing a Ls swap on

Both these headsets do fairly well against wind, but is there any reviews of noise cancellation inside quiet rooms such as home offices? I've been using the Plantronics 5220 for couple years now and people on other end complain when I file my nails... lol, saying what the heck is that irritating noise. It's like the mic easily picks up those type sounds as opposed to wind sound. As much as I like the Plantronics 5220, I'm now searching for a replacement that will eliminate background noise in quiet environments. Any suggestions???

Thanks for the comparison! But I'm not surprised, there's some big fundamental differences between the two. You've got a foam covered large mic (foam is a known way to solve wind noise via low tech simplicity) that is positioned right next to your mouth - NOT SURPRISING at all there will be less wind noise and higher voice transmit clarity and volume compared to a tiny compact pocket headset with tiny MEMS mics, a little arm that only goes about half the distance to your mouth, and so on. If you want to re-test, take the foam off the mic of the Blue Parrott, and bend the arm to position the mic about the same distance away from the face as the end of the 5200's boom goes, then drive around and see how it does. Also turn on HD Voice in the 5200's settings. You are comparing apples to oranges here so unintentionally this video is a fallacious comparison. You cant put the BlueParrott in a shirt pocket can you? Compare it to a full size Plantronics or Jabra. For most people something the 5200's size is a more mainstream-relevant headset to haul around day in and day out.

Why did the sound dramatically change at 8:35? It sounded like you were in a completely different place or something was adjusted. Again it changed, though not quite so dramatically, at 16:10. Please explain. In any event - I have to agree with everyone else. The sound quality difference is unmistakable. For the majority of the test while wearing the Blue Parrott, you could easily tell someone you were just walking down the sidewalk instead of driving in an open jeep.

I happened when I stopped and started the recording. I stopped it sitting at a red light, and then when I started moving again, I started it back up. It must have something to do with how it detects the "background" noise and applies filtering based on what it thinks is the background? I don't know...but it did only change after stopping and starting.

I was thinking that the blue parrot one has that foam cover on the mic that might aid in reducing wind noise. I know it seems like you shouldn't have to hack noise cancelling headsets but what if you put a "dead cat" on the other one... you know, like the piece of fur used to cut out wind noise. I know that GoPro sells a little sticky one for their cameras.

Blue parrot. Got one at the recommendation of other truckers when I started driving therm. When you get a conference call going, everyone can tell when someone is using 'some other device'. Although the other party/parties can hear quite well, I can't quite get the volume I need out of it (especially when driving 'naked') to hear the other party... this results in me now YELLING (mostly just to hear myself). I'm still looking into motorcycle headsets...
