You’ve given me some hope. I’ve got an oak I’m planning on collecting next spring. It looks a lot like yours. (Which is looking good) I cut it back this spring and have done some preliminary work on it in the ground over the summer. Fingers crossed. Good luck with yours. Thanks, keep growing

@bonsaihigh the pin Oaks leaves still haven't popped yet. The buds as just starting to swell although my seedlings have leaves already. My cork bark oak is just leafing out it goes almost fully Deciduous in my zone 6 climate ,,,my scrub oak has been putting on leaves and extending for the last 2 weeks tho,, it never loses any leaves for the winter.

So let’s say I find an oak tree that is like 4 feet tall or 3 feet tall or maybe 6 feet tall and I dig it up and I cut the trunk down to 1 foot tall, my question is will it sprout branches from the side? Because I wanna get the miniature tree effect but when they’re really small they don’t look like much it takes a while

In short, yes. Now, when you collect a tree, you need to make sure that you have a nice rootball. Make sure that you have a good container ready for it and you don’t remove too much soil from the tree’s roots. Placement of the tree is also important, semi shade with plenty of water will be the key to success.

Part of the problem with lifting an oak of any size is that it probably has a tap root the same size as the trunk and getting to it often leads to doing more damage to the roots than the tree can take.
