The botanical gardens are impressive too - for a small town, Includes a Peter Pan statue similar to the one in Kensington, London.

Your best one yet Mark. I overnight there a few times a year when I visit Macraes Gold Mine on business (they also have a public tour) and can vouch for the local restaurants and cafes. Next visit I must make time to see the Steam Punk Museum.

So sorry for the late reply. Oamaru is made from a Sandstone locally sourced and is known as Oamaru Stone. The main street is very wide and was designed that way so that the bullock trains could turn around. Our ancestors were very resourceful.

@@ExploreNewZealand It's actually Limestone** and it's pronounced OMaru.. **Oamaru stone is limestone with a uniform granular creamy white consistency and colour. Predominantly (90%) calcium carbonate, trace chemicals within it include alumina (1.5%), iron oxide (0.5%) and silica (0.5%).
