For Day 3 of our cruise, we went to Royal Caribbean's private island called Labadee, Haiti. When we docked, there was a welcome parade with the sea doos and then we went to the beach right after breakfast! There was a free ferry ride that took us one way to the calmer waters of the island and that was where we got some beach chairs under the shade to rest on. When we first explored the area, some of the local people lured us up to the souvenir decks and then suddenly bombarded us with products and pushing us to buy the souvenirs.
It was overwhelming at first because so many of them just came up to our faces and were trying to force us to buy stuff, but we just walked quickly away. All we wanted was a magnet, but we never even got that. There was an island buffet area to get lunch and actually, on the other side of the buffet behind a huge stone wall is the other side of the island where there were children begging for food (so I've been told). This made me feel bad for the people there and I then understood why they were pushing their sales.
After lunch, we took a little tram to the other beach where people were zip lining over the crashing waters. It was too dangerous to swim there so we went back to the calmer beach area. With my snorkelling gear and underwater camera, I got a few shots of the seaweed in the super salty water and the only life forms I was able to see were small crabs.
In the evening, we watched Oasis of Dreams, which is the aqua show on the ship featuring Olympic and champion divers, swimmers and acrobats. They were diving into a tiny pool at the back of the ship and had all sorts of beautiful costumes. Since we have a boardwalk cabin, it was easy to view the performance during the earlier times, but we still had reserved spots that gave us a closer look. It was a really cool performance and has a storyline to it..I just don't know what it was…
That was basically my day 3 experience on the ship and tomorrow we are going to Falmouth, Jamaica!
