I've travelled on one of the night train services by CD (Czech Railway) from Praha to Zurich back in 2018, and the Deluxe cabin which came with a shower in the room was fantastic, nice bed, acoustic was nice and the crew was amazing plus reasonable price. Not seeing so many people on youtube tried that, highly recommended if you got a chance to visit there!

Very interesting trip report from Venice to Austria Venice looks very beautiful the train loco itself looks good and the various accommodation on the train and scenery but the Vienna hbf station.... LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL ❤️😍 and the lounge too hope you have enjoyed your holiday

A good value for the price, especially since for some it spared them the cost of a hotel room. I would never, ever choose to sleep with up to 5 other strangers - and that price wasn't that much lower than your cabin.

I agree, but it depends on the price. Remember I should have had 'roommates' and also the price was low due to Covid 😷

When I did it I calc'd the price of various transports - economy class train, plane, etc, and added a night at a hotel, and all of a sudden a business class sleeper on the train (or first if you time your purchase well - tickets prices vary widely) became quite reasonable. I was pretty sure the chance of another female solo traveller was low enough that I'd get the compartment to myself, and I won). Sharing could have been fun too, though.

I was in Venice through the so called orient express once, another voyage 1st class alitalia with a private boat towards Gritti Palace where the late queen mother of Great Britain was having her holiday, quite a remarkable memory (so am am in my 70s...). Asking your question, yes. ÖBB offers the best sleeper trains in Europe. They are affordable (no Luxus trains only), confortable and clean. In Germany, France and Spain we are faaaaar away from these beauties. What a shame, if we had this option in Europe (and we really could) we will travel by train rather than plain.

VR in Finland are better. But obviously the ÖBB network is far superior and I can't wait for the new sleeper coaches!

Hi, you've solved a mystery for me. Thanks! I've booked Munich to Venice on the Nightjet early next year. I saw that our beds weren't consecutive numbers and was worried about not being in the same room. Now I know about the numbering system I can relax :-)

Good review, thanks for doing it. Interesting that Dylan's Travel Reports did this train in October 2020. OBB had a very good rail experience but cut the amenities.

I travelled Paris to Milan on (iirc) the discontinued Trello trains. As you did, I lucked out. Booked a 2-berth and got it to myself. Nice little sink, very comfy bed. That trip was rather nice - there was a dining car with seated, served meals and a glass of champagne in the lounge. Very civilised way to travel. My miscalculation was arriving in Milan at 5am - I had expected a cafe or something where I could kill time and have coffee before going to my hotel, but no. Happily, the hotel staff had mercy, let me wait in the lobby, then let me go to the breakfast room for coffee. They also got me into the first available room. After an overnight in Milan, I was on to Florence, then Venice, on the Freccias.

Vienna Hbf is a great station. I love the fact you can travel to so many European cities from here. I'm doing a trip from Bratislava to Vienna to Prague to Berlin soon. I've been watching your videos as part of my trip 👍

My wife always wanted to go to Venice and I always wanted to go on an overnight train so I thought mmm this might work out, then my son and daughter had the chance to visit Austria and then onto Venice for a day so thought well they’re both getting what we want so I immediately put it on our to do list then my son said it’s ultra expensive and it smells iffy walking by the canals and the lagoon, now it was the height of summer when they went and might have just caught it on a bad day so as juve is my Italian side ( I’ve a team for every country armchair supporter I’m afraid) but I do go and watch football if there’s a match on so looks like Turin for us and then onto Venice to catch the train

The new railjet coaches that are currently under construction will have sleeper pods much like capsule hotels 😎

You can book a private seating car for only 99€ there to have no other people in there and then you can pull these 6 seats together to have a lying surface. This is a good offer. And then it´s only yours and you have this hole storage, little tables and two power sockets just for you.

I also booked to go on a skiing trip. First the Thalys from Antwerp to Amsterdam (I'm from Belgium) then the Nightjet to Innsbruck in about 2 weeks. I heard that with the current covid measures, you either get a full seating compartment to yourself or max occupance of 2 persons. With the folding seats you can easily sleep I think... Allthough bringing a pillow isn't a bad idea I guess. Thoughts?

16:13-I love these little (commuter) trains too, and wish that these could be used here in North America (particularly here in Toronto/Southern Ontario by GO [Government of Ontario] Transit.) Electrification can't come soon enough.

I'd booked a Deluxe sleeper compartment from Brussels to Munich for next month, but with the current situation (especially the quarantine requirements if you return from Belgium), I've cancelled it today. Plan to do it once we're back to some degree of normality.

That's a trip I'd love do make. These night trains are surely the best. The only thing, which I don't like, is that the prices are very dynamic and if one wants the "Sparschiene" fares like the one you payed, one has to book a few months ahead... How much time before your trip did you book your ticket?

It's per person, with a surcharge for 2 person occupation of a 3 bed cabin. Usually around €150-170 total. But saves on a hotel room!

Horrible. A nightmare. Floor space in the room is the size of a small bath tub. There is no luggage compartment so normal airline sized luggage won’t fit under the bed, so, it takes up the whole bathtub sized floor space. I asked the attendance if we can put the luggage in one of the many empty compartments the answer is no. So, we are unable to stand in our room,. The room has no toilet or shower, so, to go to the toilet we have to open the door, push the bags out into the corridor to we can stand up to walk out to the toilet. We decide to get off the train before it leaves, the guard gives us a mouth full,of bad attitude, and we are disgusted we’ve paid 252 Euro for a twin room not big enough for one person. Horrible horrible horrible
