Dany explained what she does for her live guitar sound. She uses a Kemper Profiler pedal board and she splits the mono line out into 2 left & right channels with a slight delay into one of the channels, so that is why the guitar's soundstage sounds much bigger than normal. It is to be noted that they do use backing tracks to add some rhythm guitar parts when necessary, but they are all played by Dany. Also an interesting anecdote regarding their live performances, for the official music video of Money that was released by MTV, they used video recorded for the big stage screens, but the audio was replaced by the studio version and apparently the girls were so on point, that they were able to just drop the studio audio and only needed to do very minimal timing adjustments and the audio worked perfectly over the live performance.

Dany has a Kemper pedal board that can duplicate/triplicate her guitar signal in different octaves each with different effects/delays. She can simulate dual leads. Additionally, Pau has a laptop to her left that they use to add backing tracks/sounds. These are usually recorded of them in advance (except sounds like sirens and other non-instruments). Finally, they have a click track (also from the laptop) that keeps them synchronized.

Ale's basslines for this song are amazing, especially when you consider she wrote them when she was 12 or 13. Pau doing Pau things, singing and playing drums at the same time. Dany seems to appreciate being able to walk away from the microphone to rock out whenever Pau is singing lead. Dany is a total guitar nerd and she uses several effects to create the wall-of-guitar sound. They have done videos explaining their individual rigs, though I think Dany has improved her set up a good bit since she did the last one. Dany and Pau coordinate on the guitar effects to run everything through the Ableton Live software that runs their backing track from their studio stems during their live shows. So, everything Dany does is something she created, whether it is a sampled or performed live. They did some editing of the audio and video for this concert recording between the two dates they performed at the same venue, but I'm pretty sure that anything they modified on the sound track was between the two master recordings that were captured from the sound mixer board and not anything done in studio after the fact. They may have adjusted the mic levels from the raw capture, but from what people who were there at the concerts have reported, this is what the concert sounded like for them.

I believe since Dany moved to using the Kemper pedal board there is no longer any "patch changes" being triggered form Ableton Live to Dany's pedal board. I could be wrong.

Can confirm. Saw them on back to back nights and the only difference between what you're watching on the screen and in person is that they sound BETTER in person. No fanboying whatsoever. Absolutely. What was kind of interesting is I saw them last year at a festival, so like (I think) 9 bands played throughout the day. Most bands - including TW - played through the venue sound system, using the permanently installed sound board. A couple bands had their own equipment hauled up the stairs to the "booth" (just a low pipe fence around the equipment right in the middle of the audience)... and hands down, _The Warning_ had the absolute *best* sound of the whole selection of bands. Whomever was working the board that day did absolute magic, for sure - and of course the ladies are experts at shoving the pixies down the wires. 😋

In my limited understanding, Dany takes the raw sound from her guitar and splits it three ways, one way has a pedal effect for the main sound the other two are delayed and routed left and right with a slightly fuzzier sound so that it sounds like three guitars playing off one instrument. Im not a tech guy but thats what i have gleaned from prior conversations on this topic. ✌️💖🎼

Why the guitar sound is so "big"; In Dani's equipment rundown vid (on their channel) she explained that one of the things her pedal board allows is separate channels for the left and right speakers. This allows her to apply a delay on one channel of a couple milliseconds to give a fuller sound. Her setup does let her do far more than that but it's best just to watch it and see.

Yes, Dany does use octave effects, and splits the signal with a delay and a couple other adjustments gives an incredibly full sound. There are videos in which she's goes over her rig and explains things. Several, in fact, as she's changed her setup over the years. I don't remember full details, but I'm sure someone can fill in more specifics.

Unless the mic on Dany's guitar cab is being used for other purposes I am guessing all the sound engineers (FOH, monitor, recording) get the miked sound from her guitar cab as well as the L/R direct out from her Kemper pedal board so it gives them more options in tweaking her sound for their specific purpose. (P.S. I don't see pictures of it but based upon a former setup I am guessing the Ale has both the miked output from her bass cab as well as a direct output going to the consoles.) In the "Nerd" category, for this show were all three boards (FOH, monitor, recording) using the same stage rack for preamps/A-D conversion or was the analog signal split between the FOH+monitor boards and the recording board?

@@spaceknaveI don't play but I have a little experience with sound and lighting in high school and sound for church services. I have always been curious of why things (and bands) work the way they do so I keep following gear and technology changes. It took me a bit to understand how digital sound mixing is different from analog sound mixing and how in live situations digital has advantages like: 1. Being able to do "scenes" with a digital board (which cannot be done with an analog board); 2. Having a ton of virtrual "outboard gear" built in; 3. Multiple boards can share the same stage rack (containing the preamps and A-D converters); 4. The snake to the FOH position can be as simple as a thin flexible network cable or fiber (as opposed to a huge/stiff cable containing 20+ audio channels); 5. No quality degregation recording to a DAW since the signal is already digital; and many more.

In addition to the fat guitar sound produced by splitting the guitar channel, Ale continuously adjusts her play to shift between root notes, chords and leads depending on what Dany is doing on guitar, which makes it easy for her to add some depth while Dany is doing a lead (with or without a prerecorded rhythym track). For some songs Ale also adds fuzz distortion which allows her to easily play a distorted rhythym guitar tone.

This song is the intro to their concept album _Queen of the Murder Scene,_ which tells of a girl going from love to obsession, stalking, murder, and then the fight with her evil side for her soul. There are enough of the Warning Army that actually know everything about the set up that someone in Chat will know what they have done to the track here but there is definitely some effect on Dany's guitar. As far as fitness these girls when they were younger would be knackered after performances now because they have purposely worked on their fitness they could perform 2 hours go out and run 6 miles then run it down mid. Most bands go out drink, party and go crazy The Warning hit the gym and listen to other bands.

RE: The guitar tone.. I remember Dany talking about how the signal is split and one side has like a 10ms delay which really adds to the thickness of the 1 guitar. There are 1 or 2 of occasions where a guitar backing track plays, but it's not a duplication, it's playing the rhythm while Dany solos. She also uses a harmonizer that will play an octive higher or lower sometimes as well.

As for rock being dead, it has not been in the mainstream for a long while but there are plenty of good rock bands around, including The Warning of course. The Warning might be the band to bring rock back to mainstream success. Rival Sons is a really good band that has been around for a little while and The Answer is another that I follow. A lot of rock is disguised as blues rock these days too, but it's not recognized very much by the mainstream media.

One thing you can rest assured about The Warning is their honesty. If you react to more songs from this concert at Teatro Metropolitan then you will come across minor glitches in some songs. Most bands would have taken audio tracks from concert to the studio and replaced those errors with recordings. But the sisters didn't. Knowing fully well that these songs published on KZbin will remain forever open to scrutiny & criticism they just went ahead with uploading everything. There is a published video where Dany the guitarist explains how the entire guitar show works, first the pedal board has a phase shift programming, which causes a second guitar, increasing the noise of the first, another is that the pedal board itself has one click connected to Pau's laptop, where they place only a rhythm guitar and sound effects, only to accompany only the sections where they need strength, but everything controlled by Paulina the drummer, in fact everything is 100% live, it is only for boost force in a short section. If you listen to the entire concert, there are songs without any harmonic effect, just them, their instruments and voices. And yes bass have distortions effects too, keep rockin.

Dany uses a Kemper pedal board and often splits her input to include two different octaves that will be played on two different channels to get that "wall of sound" that you hear. Pau triggers the board from her drums and the Mac sends the programs to Dany's board so that she can get different tones for each part in each song....❤

Thanks for the reaction. As far as I know they have some backing tracks here and there. For example you can (barely) hear another rythm guitar in the background when Dany is playing a solo or a specific riff. Or they have some piano parts in a few songs which you can hear very clearly in Survive. But it's all their production and adds a kick to the whole show. They don't do much of a post production, they sound the same live.

Dave, even though you have already heard this song, it is okay to smile and show a little bit of emotion. LOL As for backtracks, yes, they do use them, but sparingly. Enter Sandman has Alessia singing in it. That is why they always give her full credit when they announce the song. When they add more guitar, it is Dany playing. Some of the songs have keyboard piano and some organ as well. Not sure which sister does those tracks as all 3 are excellent pianists. Having said that, they have had full backtrack failures during a concert, and the audience was not aware of it. The extra sound they add is for the listening enjoyment of the audience, and not because they can't sound good without it. They sound great, just a little more of their own sound, made by them. It's the same with Nightwish, except NW uses the London Philharmonic and The London Adult and Child Choir in their backtracks at their concerts, and not recordings of the band playing all of the different instruments. You and Ash should do more first time reactions of TW together!!! "First Time"!!

Hello Dave & Ash. Geat reaction as ever. If you look carefully, Pau has a laptop onthe left of her drum kit. Throughout the concert we hear both piano and ghost baking vocals, which I am sure are played through the computer. These days, a pre-rcorded track negates the need to employ an extra musician, although on the tracks 'Narcissista' and 'Revenant' drums and acoustic guitar is played by an additional male musician. Take care both. Cheers

You two are wonderful! The ladies do use backtracks, usually a second guitar, sometimes a keyboard, and rarely a vocal. The thing is that if all that goes to hell, you still get a great-sounding song. As they have said, backtracks are ok as long as they do not become the song.

You really should listen to Revenant from this same concert, Pau sings, no drums, just acoustic guitars, a base and harmonies. It is really beautiul and Pau's vocals are fantastic.

Did you notice at 3:26 that Pau is playing single-handedly? She is adjusting something in her back, maybe the volume of her in-ears. The fact that almost no one notices is amazing, since she does not miss one beat.

The reason her guitar sounds so full is that Dany uses a Kemper Profiler pedalboard, where she layers multiple effects that run to the mixer as a stereo output. It's literally a wall of sound (I've heard and felt it live, amazing.) From time to time, you may hear a fill guitar line, sound effects, or keyboards. Pau manages those from her drum kit and laptop running Ableton Live. Other than a compressor effect and occasional distortion, Ale mostly plays a clean bass sound.

Pau and Dany are unbelievably fit. I cannot speak to Ale' because I have not seen her doing the workouts that Dany and Pau are doing (KZbin videos of their workouts). Pau also sings while running in order to build and keep her cardio strength for this kind of singing!

I saw in one behind the scenes video, for live shows to fill the sonic space, they split the signal and put a 10ms delay on the split signal to make it sound like two guitarists playing in unison.

From what I understand Pau rehearses while working out - singing while on a running machine - helps her breathing and to control her voice during physical exertion!

Dust to Dust is the intro song on DPA/TW's "Queen of the Murder Scene" concept album (aka QOTMS)... it is inviting you in to hear the deep, dark, and foreboding story of a young woman apparently in love with someone that doesn't even know she exists... QOTMS is one of those albums best experienced by listening to it from beginning to end in order... listening to each of the songs piecemeal and out of order is like trying to figure out a movie by catching a portion near the end, one from near the beginning, and one near the middle... yeah, it won't work out very well... as a concept album, many of us members of TWA can easily see it as a movie or Broadway stage performance... it is that good and to think it was written by them at a very young age and released as their 2nd album! i mean... whoa! who does that?? 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA

These young ladies are amazing. Each of them shine every show. Pau is a beast behind that drum kit, in fact during an interview her sisters said she's like that Muppet, Animal, during a show. Fun fact, Jim Henson the Muppets creator fashioned Animal after John Bonham of Led Zeppelin because he was a huge fan.

There's a video of Dany talking about her pedal board and explaing many things on what she does with it. She commented that in some songs she adds an xf that makes the guitar have an extra layer of it, just slightly running some milliseconds behind and with a little different tone to give more of a big sound and sometimes that other layer is sent to the right channel. She doesn't mention it is done in this song specifically but in others. If you carefully see fan recorded videos focused on her, she keeps changing the presets on maybe 6 differents buttons, and are loaded everytime for the song parts. When there's a new song, Pau sends the new ones to her console. Not sure if Im correct, but in Evolve song, I think Dany hits a button there just right before Pau's sream, where the whole sound of the instruments and microphones are increased maybe 5 to 10% to give more of an impact there. About backing tracks, in my opinion is ok they add them here and there, because they're a 3 piece band and people love to see just the three of them, is part of the magic. Maybe in the future they could add some extra members in the back like many bands do.

Pau no longer loads anything into Dany’s guitar processor. All effects/pre sets for each song are already there. Dany still has a MIDI connection to their MIDI processor so when Pau clicks her MIDI pedals to control the click track it sends a signal to Dany’s processor to go on to the next song. Dany can select the next song manually as well if the MIDI connection fails. Dany then controls what guitar effects are being played depending on which part of the song they are on with the buttons on the processor with her foot. According to Pau, they did this so they weren’t so dependent on the laptop and to take some of the load off of her. In the past if the laptop crashed they had to stop the show to reset it. Now they can play on if they have to until the laptop is reset. She talks about this in her Soundcheck Xpo Masterclass. Pau hasn’t controlled Dany’s processor for years now. Pau also used to control the video screens which they haven’t used at all on any part of the Error Tour to simplify her workload so she can concentrate on her drumming and vocals.
