That's two reactions in a row that your philosophical musings have resonated on a molecular level with me. 🤯 🎉🎉🎉🎯 I find myself agreeing with everything you say. Fun fact: most The Warning songs begin with that incredible bundle of energy (Pau) on a piano pulling the melody and rhythm from the Aether. Great job again. I'm 63 years old next week and apart from the supergroups I grew up with like The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Queen I have never been so enraptured by a group. Great job sir. I LOVE THIS BAND !! ✌️💖🎼

Pau is REALLY at her best on more sensitive material. Listen to 23, Breathe, and Revenant to understand how great Pau is as a singer. Also, listen to her sing Radiohead's Creep solo at the piano. It may be the best of all of the many covers of this classic song. The Warning may be the best songwriting band ever. If you look at their mature period beginning with the Queen of the Murder scene, ever single song is worth a listen. You and I will have our favorites, but you'll never hear a bad song or a filler. The Beatles have a catalog of great songs, but I don't think every song they did after they becaume popular was really a winner. And as time went by, how much was The Beatles and how much was George Martin. What they do share with The Beatles is writing songs swith hooks or earworms that you find yourself singing in the shower or humming while folding your laundry. There are or were more technically adept bands (Rush, Band Maid) but very few of there songs give you something to sing or hum on your own.

I love how The Warning compose their music exactly in this balance you are talking about: how they play the music, how they sing - it is all about the song and it's meaning and not to make anyone stand out or show off insane technical skills. I don't doubt they have the technical skill, they just place the music first.

Edward “Lalo” Plaza is their sound engineer normally and is listed as the Production Manager for this show and if you see TW live at most shows, he and the sister’s father Luis are responsible for that wall of sound. However, I believe that Beto Ramos is the gentleman that deserves the recognition for the audio production as he is credited as the Sound Mixer & Master of this concert, as it pertains to the videos released. Beto is an excellent drummer in his own right (the band Jumbo and 6x Latin Grammy winner for production) and actually sits in for Pau in this concert when she goes up front to sing the song Narcisista in Spanish. Beto is a drum mentor to Pau and Pau credits him with first suggesting and then helping her learn and setup the Ableton software they use onstage.

This is the song that made me a The Warning fan. Specifically, the youtube clip of their live performance at the Lunario in Mexico City in 2018 (yes, more than five years ago). It absolutely blew me away. Only later did I learn that Ale wrote most of the music for this song, particularly that hypnotic bass line, when she was, like, 13.
@CosMosArtistry2016

Another great analysis. My favourite group next to Nightwish. Pau always blows me away, she is all power and emotion in your face. Dani is perfect as a front woman and guitarist, obviously very talented and her vocals have matured over the years. Both Dani and Pau are to the fore, they easily draw me in. Then there is Ale. On stage she is more the introvert as far as voice goes, mostly keeps to the background but having watched her over time including videos where they are at home, playful and relaxed, Ale isn't shy in any way. Her 'quietness' if I may call it that adds to her mystery. Yet, when one really listens, one hears brilliance on the bass, almost lost in the 'chaos' and 'power' around her. This group of exceptional song writers, vocalists and musicians are needed right now to keep the heart and soul of rock 'n roll alive. They draw upon their influences and mix to merge in a modern day anthem of brilliance. Also, their humbleness and ability to connect with their fans is awesome. Very rare. They live their music. Cheers, Rich

Great reaction and analysis! I think some people outside of TWA might question why Pau was nominated and voted Drumeo’s 2023 Rock Drummer of the Year (against some tough competition), but you touched on it when you mentioned only a handful of famous drummers who could sing lead while playing flawlessly. Throw in the fact that she is the initial songwriter and composer for the majority of their original songs and it is evident that she has a rare skill set. Plus, she is just fun to watch performing. 👍😎

*Dust to Dust* *Dust to Dust* is the intro song on DPA/TW's _"Queen of the Murder Scene"_ concept album (aka QOTMS)... it is inviting you in to hear the deep, dark, and foreboding story of a young woman apparently in love with someone that doesn't even know she exists... it follows her battles between good and evil over her soul... the Spanish speaking part is their manager, Rudy, playing the part of a preacher at the funeral... translated to English, this is what he says... Brother! Salvation is something that is earned! Let go of your hand of resentment and Wake up to a new light within you Although your brothers try Plunge into the darkness DPA/TW's _"Queen of the Murder Scene"_ (aka QOTMS) is one of those concept albums best experienced by listening to it from beginning to end in order... listening to each of the songs piecemeal and out of order is like trying to figure out a movie by catching a portion near the end, one from near the beginning, and one near the middle... yeah, it won't work out very well... their performance of it at Lunario was the first time the album was presented in full to the public... it had been released over time in chapters of three songs... i like Lunario because it was the first public performance, the animations on the big screen behind Pau, and the girls were in character... others prefer their presentation of QOTMS at another venue for various reasons... as a concept album, many of us members of TWA can easily see QOTMS as a movie or Broadway stage performance... it is that good and to think it was written by them at a very young age and released as their 2nd album! i mean... whoa! who does that?? 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA

As others have already commented, this song is from the girls' concept album, Queen Of The Murder Scene released in 2018. The album's songs were WRITTEN when Ale, Pau and Dany were 12, 15 and 17 years old, respectively. That means that the basslines you're hearing were created by a PRE-TEEN. Ponder that for a moment! When asked in a 2022 interview, Ale confirmed that, not only is this song's bassline her favorite that she's come up with, but also that she's responsible for the bulk of the song's composition. Again, think about that for a minute! A 12-YEAR-OLD basically wrote it! Mind boggling!

@@SDsailor7, Pau had a few very limited snippets of chord progressions, melodies and song ideas saved to her phone a bit earlier on from which she drew for the QOTMS compositions, but nothing concrete. Mainly though the bulk of the writing happened two years after they all attended the Berklee College of Music Summer Youth Program in 2015, when they studied music theory, composition, (some) voice as well as further individual instrument training which they initially started at ages 6, 7 and 8. Great reaction! Excellent commentary. Pau sings lead on about 20% of their songs (about 10 songs out of 50) and co-lead/backup/harmony on most of the rest. They are sisters so when they sing together they have that "family" voice blend that is always amazing. It is always chilling when the three of them sing together. Also, they work on their vocals and all of them can sing in different styles and voices. Dany can go from a rock growl to a pop voice. Pau can sing sweetly or roughly and rip your heart out either way. Ale can sing anything her sisters can including lead, although she does not like the spotlight.

I honestly believe The Warning will single-handedly bring rock music back to main stream status. Yes, there are other good rock bands out there but none of them seem to have that “it” factor of which The Warning obviously have. I say this because I personally know of several people who have never liked rock music, or even considered listening to it, end up liking and following The Warning. LONG LIVE THE VILLARREAL SISTERS!

Hey Eric, Dust to Dust is the first song (Prologue) to The Warning second album, called Queen Of The Murder Scene. This album is a concept album written by pre-/mid-teens (Ale, Pau & Dany). Pau came with the idea, when Dany and Ale show the first outline, both said "Wow, so much blood, less fix that".And, that is the way they work, all 3 of them work together on everything, lyrics, drum fills, bass lines, guitar riffs - and they are very opinionated, so 2 votes win. Ale has said Dust to Dust is song with her biggest fingerprint. Dany sings the last notes, because cannot reach these notes, so they seamlessly switch. You are right about it being rock - they mix genres as they please - in QOTMS, they actually incorporate K-pop elements, Chearleader Punk, Punk, Heavy metal (the title song QOTMS for example) Hard rock and more ... the whole album was a key change experiment for them.

I appreciate your thoughts on this song but more importantly the band overall and couldn't agree more. I'm a rocker from way back and TW have brought me back to my roots. I don't care how they are labeled I like what they do and how they write their music with meaningful lyrics including the hooks and riffs which are excellent. They are fun to watch because they have so much fun performing it's contagious AF. Thank you this was very enlightening and smart. 🤘

Want some facts that will blow your mind? Ok, 1. This song is from Alejandra(bass) and funny you mentioned the perfect timing because Alejandra has perfect pitch and also she's a human metronome(according to Pau). 2. This song was composed when Alejandra was 12/13 years old. 3. This is the prologue for their second album Queen of the Murder Scene a conceptual album arranged and composed when they we're 13(Ale), 15(Pau) and 17(Dany). cool right?!

Eric, the fact that you don’t have a million plus subs is criminal! Sadly those who act like clowns with all fluff and no stuff and absolutely no music knowledge are what a short attention span majority of people gravitate towards. Thank you for your well thought out and insightful analysis of the first band to get me excited about new music in decades!

The Warning had another great honor this past Friday. They were on the Shiprocked cruise and did a set Monday and Friday afternoon. The cruise closes with an all star jam session. The Warning and Steel Panther were chosen to close the cruise with Highway to Hell as the shows encore. The last minute or so they were joined on stage by members of many of the bands on the cruise.

Suggest having a look at the original live performance of this song on 25 Nov 2018, at a venue called Lunario which is also in Mexico City. It was also recorded off the board (as opposed to someone's cellphone). It's not mixed as well as this and they're not quite as polished (close though!), but it does go to your question about when they gelled as a 3-piece rock band - it was before 25 November 2018!

Since they started songwriting and arranging in 2013 (at ages 13-11-8) they've been everpresent in the studio to the point where five years later they earned professional arranger and producer credits on their 2nd album, Queen of the Murder Scene, released in 2018 when they were 18-16-13. Their songwriting and arranging is geared toward making their live music sound as large as possible without overwhelming the mix, finding that perfect balance of complexity and sparseness. They know how to cover for each other during solos and vocals, and always manage to keep the melody moving forward during slowdowns or stops. Although they've started working with outsiders, their manager Rudy Joffroy says he never knows what they're working until they bring him something that is basically ready-to-record, and it wouldn't surprise me if they started working toward their own studio in the near future.

You are correct, this show was in Mexico City, August 2022 at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX. (CDMX = Mexico City). First song on the Queen of the Murder Scene concept album, Pau also sings the last song on the record, The End (Stars Always Seem to Fade). The spoken part is voiced by their manager, Rudy, playing the preacher character.

Speaking of 'superlatives', I like how you described Dany's closing vocal note as 'the cherry on the cake.' You mentioned the sound achieved in the recording of this song. In fact the sound for this performance came straight from the soundboard. You mention a guitar hook which Dany plays throughout this song. If you mean the guitar hook which starts out as the bass line, then it was Ale who wrote that hook. Ale opens with that bass line, and Dany then doubles it through much of the song. Ale has even said it's her own favourite of the bass lines she's written (and is my favourite too). I feel as you do about drummers. I've even commented elsewhere how I was originally impressed by drummers such as Bonzo, and Ginger Baker (Moon too), and more recently by technical players like Gavin Harrison (and Neil Peart) - but I find Pau to be my favourite drummer to watch and listen to today. Indeed, all three of these sisters are simply amazing players, and together are great songwriters and singers. I'm so glad you are of the same opinion. Thanks, Eric!

I'll always consider Dust to Dust as one of The Warning's crown jewels - the first all-original song I saw by The Warning was a performance of Dust to Dust at the Whiskey A Go Go. I was stunned, numb - for me Ale's bass line is up there with AIC's Would as one of the best bass lines in rock. And, I like the thesaurus idea - the girls have a lot of amazing performances

Eureka moment - I believe was this entire concert (Teatro Met 2022). You can see it in their faces throughout - they just know they are in the groove, the pocket of 'who they are'. And if you watch the end credits of the concert, you can see Pau, her back to the audience, Ale with her arm around her - and Pau is crying softly. THIS is their EUREKA MOMENT. They are musicians, they are talented, and they are loved

This song is the prologue to Queen Of The Murder Scene. It takes place at the protagonists funeral, and is narrated by her (Pau). She invites the listener to hear her tale of destruction, and warns not to follow her example. Dany portrays the side of her that descends into madness. Her wail at the end is her soul leaving her body.

Hey Eric! Love your reviews, dude! These three sisters are, in fact, aliens from the planet Rocktopia! I am an OG rocker who, like many of my friends, had given up on rock by the mid 90s. BUT, As soon as I heard The Warning, 5 years ago, I nearly cried with joy, that Rock is not dead! It's as if each sister was born for their instrument. Dany, has freakishly flexible hands, perfect for guitar, and that bright, Powerful alto voice, perfect for Rock. Ale, is very long-limbed and graceful, with long fingers, she is a human metronome, that often keeps Pau in time, and possess perfect pitch, which makes her a perfect Bass player. Pau is compact, coordinated, powerful, perfect for drums, and has a Broadway-belter alto voice that blends and contrasts with Dany's voice perfectly. Your description of their combined vocals is spot on! Not to mention their incredible songwriting talent and amazingly charming, fun, energetic stage presence. Plain and simple, they are three Unicorns that also happen to be sisters. LOL Future Legends, for SURE!
