I didn't watch much of this. I make my case for being an "anti-masker" due to my value of preserving individual freedom over mob-rule. I don't believe it's the government's right to dictate what I should do with my own body. This isn't to stop people from doing what they want with theirs. Anyone can wear a mask if they please to do so (and even I wear one to protect myself, ironically). However, the line is drawn when I am threatened to wear a mask or face consequences at the hands of the government, like a fine. With this being said, the only opinion I respect of mask wearing if the establishment I'm utilizing. For example, if I were to go over a friend's home and they asked me to wear a mask, I would, since it's their place of business. The same case for a private business. However, if I'm not required to wear one, what is it the government's business what I should be allowed to do on private property. And, I know, people will bring in some strawman about regulations. They will bring up some extreme case like someone being murdered on your property and the government not being allowed to jump in because of "private property" or something about pollution. I've seen all the arguments and strawmen.

According to Michael Mann at a speaking engagement he did at my college, there was a time when there was room for skepticism about anthropogenic climate change. It was in the early 90s, before long term ice core studies were finished.

Yet, skeptics think scientists remain skeptics on this issue. It makes me want to hit my head against a wall.

@@BriefBrainSnacks You might appreciate "the hockey stick and the climate wars" by michael mann. It hits a few of your interests: science, politics, and political propaganda. I got a signed copy from him that day.

Thanks! It's an important and interesting video. Also, I would love a vid with a higher quality video and audio (it would help me understand the words as I am not a native speaker and relying only on text is difficult).

So for the question at the end: where should culpability lie in behavior that spreads the virus?

Major social media platforms. Specifically, the engagement-driven behavioral modification algorithms they use.

The individual. In fact all the individuals.

You’re saying that anti-maskers are just “obeying orders”, while simultaneously saying that we need to obey orders given by the govt, without question. You’re smarter than this.

In SF social distancing is all but ignored. Mask wearing seems to be about 80%. I keep wondering to what degree narcissism is playing a part in these behaviors.
@BriefBrainSnacks4 жыл бұрын
That's something I didn't bother touching. I would imagine that for the people who are young and disregard safeguards, then narcissism may be involved. Youth already makes many feel invulnerable.
