Im in the 9th grade, well almost 10th, and I have no idea what career I want. At first I wanted to be a veterinarian, but changed my mind. Then I wanted to be a photographer, but realized that wasn't a very stable and dependable job choice. But then after watching The Miracle of Life in health, I kinda want to be an OBGYN, but yet I'm scared to try it. Every time I have a goal, or begin to think I can do something.. This little voice in my head always tells me I'll never be good at it.

Hi Day Dreemr. Why are you listening to that little voice in your head? Have you thought about the types of activities that you're good at and enjoy doing? If you asked your teachers, parents and friends, what would they say? What classes are fun for you? Where do you get your best grades? Think about all this and the type of stuff you'd like to be doing with your day each day when you're at work. You want to find that mix of what you enjoy doing and what you're good at. Lots of things you'll get better at the more you do them....so you're not looking to see what you're an expert at today....but if you can't get through a science class and it doesn't click with you, then working in the healthcare field whether for dogs or pregnant women, probably won't be for you.

Day Dreemr i'm also in 9th grade and i'm also thinking about wanting to become a OBGYN , but i'm not sure i want to go through so many years (12) of training and medical school. even though this career really interests me and i'm good at math and science.

True, but since having a baby is such an intensely personal thing, people like to have a relationship with their doctors. With an OBGYN, that relationship is established by the time of delivery. So while what you're saying might be better for the doctor and her lifestyle, the other way likely provides more comfort to/for the patient.

I have had a set mindset for the past two years that I'm going to major in PSY and minor in business get my bachelors masters and Ph.D. But last week I went into an appointment with an obgyn and I saw my doctor and I got this crazy idea what If I become a doctor I am freaking out because I'm in my last semester of completing my associates I've already been accepted to a university where they offer my major and my minor now I'm getting second thoughts about being a doctor? I literally know NOTHING about the medical field I've never take. A biology class I've only taken geology and environmental science that says a lot I am freaking out!!!

I dream of being involved in the Labor department, yet I feel as if I'll never have enough time to spend for myself and a future family. I'm going into the 10th grade and I have done so much research on becoming an OB/GYN and I know that the level of responsibility is extremely high, I'm just not sure if I could enjoy other things in life and spend time on those things when I'd have to spend most of my time in an operating room. I still have a HUGE passion for being involved in the Labor department and I refuse to give up on that, but the thought of being a full time doctor is kinda scary. Are there any other careers that will still allow me to work with OB/GYN's without carrying as much stress and responsibility as the doctor? Possibly a nurse in that field?

Dr. Carmen has 2 kids and is a hands-on mom. Granted, she runs her own practice rather than working as an employee at a hospital or medical group, but in some ways that brings on even more responsibility. You should meet with some OB/GYN doctors to talk to them about their lifestyles and responsibilities to get varying opinions. Since you're young, they'll probably be excited to meet with you or answer your questions. But if you're less interested in the operating room and more interested in just being around the environment of OB/GYN, then being a nurse might be a better fit for you. You can ask the doctors you talk to if they would connect you to some of the other players that surround them. It's great that you're looking into this now! Good luck

You could try being a nurse midwife. They do similar jobs to obgyns except they don't do surgery, they only assist durin c sections, and they dont manage high risk pregnancies
