In A New Hope, Vader doesn't say "again, I'm the master just like last time", he says "THIS TIME, I am the master"... So, somehow (helped by Qui Gon?) Obi Won has to find his mojo and own Vader in their last confrontation of this series, otherwise Vader's later words make no sense. That character arc is why I'm dying to see the next 3 episodes. Obi Won WILL NOT end this series weak and lost. He WILL find his way. His confidence in A New Hope was absolute...

The best part about Hayden Christensen returning is the fact the fans have fully embraced him! You can tell he’s happy to back in Star Wars in interviews and especially at Star Wars celebration! But could you imagine if they keep his return a secret? It would break the internet! But man Darth Vader’s mere presence just demands your attention. He’s not messing around but at the same time is so casual about it. Only using one hand, not killing Obi-wan instantly, I don’t view this as him being arrogant but FLEXING on Obi-wan.

Obi Wan saw the hallucination of Anakin of how he thought he'd look. He figured Anakin still looked normal. He had no idea Anakin would be a monstrous robot that snapped children's necks, which is partly why he was so shocked

15:31 I haven’t seen anyone point this out but the reason he activated his lightsaber was to feel safe as it was very dark. He immediately turns it off and runs once he sees Vader again. Obi-Wan explained this earlier in the episode to Leila, about darkness and feeling safe when the lights are on.

Which is stupid, because that's not what the force is, and has never been explained like that... ever. The Jedi don't use the force because it's like a nightlight to them, and they're all scared little children that are afraid of the dark. And if it were the case here, then why not just leave the saber on if he's that afraid?

He was comparing the feeling of the force to the feeling of safety one might have after turning on the light, not literally using the force as a “nightlight.” He means that the force is a soothing, calming presence to a Jedi, especially in times of hardship. The saber is a further metaphor for that. Don’t take everything so literally.

Kenobi says that it pretty much feels like a nightlight, giving you light in the scary dark or whatever. But that isn't what it is. You can say that it's smooth and calming, but it isn't there purely for a Jedi to feel better.

I think what makes Vader's actions in this episode particularly vicious is the purpose behind them. Slaughtering the Tuskens and the Jedi, Vader killed them because he wanted/felt he needed to kill them. They were killed because that was his goal. In this episode, I feel that Vader is making a show of his cruelty to draw Obi Wan out. These poor people are just instruments for him to play with until Obi Wan gives in, and they both know that. Hurting innocent people in order to hurt someone else is a true sign of evil to me

@@darthsidious3274 Because Vader is new to his suit, and taking some years off doesn't automatically make you forget every single thing you've done in your life, or forget how to do basic fighting moves. Kenobi in this episode destroyed stormtroopers with a blaster. He remember how to fight, except when the writers need him to not remember. Plus, the show has already made things magically happen for other characters. Why not him? he's fighting against a teleporting Darth Vader, might as well turn on your Jedi skills. And PTSD is a form of stress involving you feeling like you're back reliving trauma from your past. It doesn't necessarily mean that it makes you a scared little coward that can no longer fight. In fact, many vets with PTSD will still drop to the ground the moment they hear fireworks, or other explosion. They don't just run away from it. It kicks in your engrained training, whether or not the situation calls for it.

That doesn't make much sense. It's not like you immediately forget everything the moment you lay down a weapon. Yeah, it's been 10 years, but Kenobi has been a soldier for way longer than that. Vets today that haven't fought in a very long time still retain their training and discipline. You can't say that Kenobi can't remember anything about fighting. That's why this feels so bad to a lot of people. Kenobi just became a scared whiny little brat, and Leia is propped up as the adult. It makes no sense.

Believe it or not Quinlan Vos status as an order 66 survivor was confirmed as far back as Darth Vader issue 7 of Charles Soule run in 2017. Where his name is along a list of other Jedi survivors. Also from that same run Darth Vader built his Castle with the help from the spirit of a Sith Lord named Darth Momim. He was an artist who loved to see his subjects frozen in terror. What makes him so different from even other Sith(that Palpatine straight up called him a heretic)is that he believed that if he glorified the dark side, it would give him eternal life here’s the quote “The dark side does not serve us. We serve the dark side. If we glorify it through our acts and our work and our art, it gives us power. It gives us life. Even life eternal.” - Darth Momin You can read the story for yourself in Charles Soule Darth Vader 2017 run of comics. Seriously that man is making some of the best Star Wars content and no one talks about it! Also recently the Knights of Ren planed a heist there!

vader's "strolling through town" scene was surprisingly dark. like yeah we've had dark star wars (planet exploding and offscreen youngling slaughter) but nothing as personal as a father being choked to death, a kid running out and yelling "DAD" only to have his neck snapped, and his mother runing out and being left to mourn. not in what i've seen, anyway.

@@scottf5791 I took it that he was provoking Obi Wan. He stops in that street, looks across at exactly the house we know Obi Wan is in and chooses someone directly opposite from it. I interpreted it as Vader knew Obi Wan was in that house & he wanted to either draw him out, or simply torment him with how much he’s now on the dark side by putting on a show for him, as he knows that’ll cause him pain. The whole sequence felt like a predator toying with its prey. Made sense to me and was a great way of adding tension in a situation where we know neither will die.

I will never get over just how absolutely terrified Kenobi was in this entire episode. He's a broken, lost man. He's NOT a Jedi right now. He's just a shell. And watching how terrified he was of Vader, how slow, how weak he was. Just. Vader's never been more terrifying for me. Ewan is killing this role, and it's precisely how Obi Wan should be at this moment. I don't doubt that they're going to have another fight, that Qui-Gon's going to return to Kenobi and help him find his balance again, and we're going to see Kenobi 'school' Vader again, with some sort of line, "You still have a lot to learn." And it'll be when Obi-Wan decides Anakin is dead and only Vader lives. Which is how we get Vader still feeling that Kenobi is the Master when they last met. And also, Kenobi will allow himself to seem like he 'dies' in some fashion.

@@andrewtorrens947 Firstly, I agree it seems like Leia didn't know Kenobi, but from what I can tell Leia doesn't actually know who Obi-Wan is. She just knows him as Ben, right? (I may be wrong, can't remember) It's also not impossible she simply forgot stuff about him, maybe she didn't make the connection of him being Obi-Wan Kenobi as in the Clone Wars general so in ANH she has no idea because she never made the connection as a child. We have to wait and see what happens in the rest of the series to make full judgment on this. Secondly, how do you know Obi-Wan didn't meet Vader in his suit? Obi-Wan even provides detail about Vader to Luke when he says Vader is more machine than man. Granted, he could've figured that out from other sources but from what I can tell there's no dialogue that absolutely rules out them meeting between episode 3 and 4. Thirdly, Vader and the Empire absolutely knew there were some Jedi still around. They never found Yoda, they were aware of Cal Kestis from Fallen Order as well as Kanan and Ezra from Rebels which was literally less than a year before A New Hope. In fact when Vader tells Tarkin Kenobi is on the Death Star, Tarkin says "surely he must be dead by now," implying they know they didn't kill him and he's out there in the galaxy. You clearly didn't watch the original trilogy

Aight here's my general thoughts on the episode: I'm warming up to Reva. She was a lot more entertaining in this episode and to be honest I'm not really sure why, probably because I had more time to process her character rather than watching two episodes in a row of "new main character". Vader was incredible here. Both the Respeecher program and JEJ were credited, so his voice was definitely full AI. I'm surprised, the delivery of "I am what you made me" felt so angry and bitter and I wouldn't expect that quality from AI. Leia continues to be a standout, I loved the stuff with her learning more about her mother. Obi-Wan saying he remembers images of his family retroactively makes Leia's remembrance of Padme more believable.

​@@strategist40k86 We know that Obi-Wan reconnects with the Force (and Qui-Gon) over the following years, but in my opinion he shouldn't be able to come anywhere close to becoming a worthy opponent for Vader ever again. Neither Kenobi, nor Maul or Ahsoka could beat him, which is why they all chose to believe in Luke instead. Also, a reminder that by the time of Rebels S2, both Palpatine and Vader aren't even sure Kenobi's still alive, so I think he's going to come out of this series a survivor rather than a victor. As for Obi-Wan's duel with Maul in Rebels, I think we can all agree it was more of a mind game than actual display of combat prowess (not to say I disliked it, quite the contrary, it's still my favourite Star Wars fight of all time).

Before Episode 2 the clone wars legend canon made it seem that owen Lars was actually obi wan’s brother. I recently watched The Lore Master's video on Obi-Wan's complete Legends history, and in that was mentioned a vision of a brother, which Obi-Wan later took to be referring to him seeing Anakin as a brother. So, I really perked up when Obi-Wan mentioned his parents and having a brother. I love the story potential of Jedi thinking about their biological family. I also love Obi-Wan comparing the Force to a nightlight. It reminds me of the Jedi of the High Republic imagining the Force as different concepts, and I like him later using his lightsaber as a nightlight when he's at his most scared.

You can literally see Anakin in the way Darth Vader walks. The posture, the wielding style; everything looks like Ep 3. Hayden is phenomenal in his portrayal of Vader. Just the sound of his breathing makes me tense in caution, the way he stalks though the settlement reminds me of his march on the temple. Every stride is Hayden pouring ROTS Anakin into that suit. Amazing performance. And ObiWan's face when he see's Vader face to face for the first time? Priceless. There was the instinctive fear from the visage of the suit, the disbelief that this was once his Padawan and finally the heartbreaking guilt that he had failed all those years ago to save Anakin. Having Hayden and Ewan share a scene once more is just peak Star Wars to me.

I just heard an interresting theory, that the “Only with your eyes closed can you truly see” by Quinlin maybe hints at a reversal of the Mustafa Duel. That maybe Vader leaves Obi-Wan for dead when they next meet and that is the point where Qui Gon comes in and helps Obi Wan rise. btw heard this from Ralph on Geek Dad Life Two.

I wonder if Vader would leave him for dead though. Obviously just toying with him in part 3, but there’s no doubt he wants him dead. When the time comes you don’t think he’d go in for the kill?

Thats what im hoping too. Ive enjoyed the beaten hopeless Obi-Wan and Vader giving him a taste of the pain he felt is perfectly in line with not wanting to kill him but torture him. But i do hope he begins rising again. He now sees and understand the weight of his failures fully. theres no doubt or confusion. Next episode better have Liam Neeson giving him a proper conversation much like Obi-Wan did for Luke. "At our lowest point, we can experience the greatest growth." He then finally steels himself for the task at hand and regains some if the great General and Jedi Master he was.

Acting, costumes etc. are phenomenal, I just wish the cinematography was up to par. Obi-Wan running away from Vader off camera right just to immediately walk back in from the right is even dumber than when he miraculously appeared by Leia's side after her fall from a tall building. While the setting works great with the lightsabers in the dark, the chase feels rather flat too.

Yeah, the blocking has left something to be desired IMO. Small child Leia outrunning grown adults not once but twice was similarly poorly handled (no offence to the child actor, I think she's been absolutely _amazing_ as a young Leia but... she very much runs like a small child, it doesn't look fast at all which makes it even less convincing when multiple able-bodied adults somehow can't catch her whenever the plot requires it).
