Neither Luke nor Leia should have been super involved in this show. Cameos for fan appeasement, fine, whatever. Making one of them a key character in the story is just ignoring your own lore. I don’t understand why Disney insists on digging themselves deeper and deeper into this hole of ignoring their own established lore.

It's what happens when the bean counters are in the driver's seat: they write spreadsheets, not stories. All they think of is what properties do we have available and which ones are the most valuable. Then they graft a story together from there like Doctor Frankenstein and push it out to a customer base that will tear it apart. If you really want to understand their thinking, I would suggest you read or listen to Bob Lutz’s _Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business_ as it really goes into what drives these bad decisions.

I think the problem here is that, under Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm has become extremely ideological in its company culture. And as a result, they only hire people who share in the ideological extremism and are loyal 'yes' men. This explains why they pass up real writing talent - they dont give a shit about talent. They want yes men that worship the company culture. As a result, shit like this happens, and we're all left wondering why these writers suck so bad. The writers just don't seem to understand in these "prequel" series that the writing has to be incredibly tight yet inventive, especially when we already know the outcome of certain characters archs. They have to be extremely careful with Canon discrepancies but still leave room for expanding characterization. Disney, as it pertains specifically to star wars, has been INCREDIBLY bad at both things but I guess Diversity and Dinosaurs are more important than storytelling.

Those who love and respect the Star Wars franchise should now understand the feelings of those who love and respect The Wheel of Time book series. As for the accusations of racism and genderism...what a cheap, and oh so tedious way to respond to the backlash. Disney and Amazon both use that tired old trope.

Does nobody notice that the existence of the inquisitors contradicts the fact that the Empire (except secretly the emperor ) does not believe in the Force.? Tarkin made this pretty clear and all the other generals and admirals on board the death star had no respect for the Force and any supernatural things. How would they maintain an institution of Force-sensitive operatives? The thought is absurd.
@silverstargaming20
@silverstargaming20 2 жыл бұрын
Tarkin has no respect for the Jedi, due to their inability to go far enough to claim victory as a result of the code. He knows that Anakin is Vader, and while he openly disrespected the Grand Inquisitor in Rebels, the answer to your question is fear. Disobeying the Inquisitors (or at least the Grand Inquisitor) is like disobeying an order from Vader, and thus the Emperor himself. The entire foundation of the Empire is based on fear. Imagine being an admiral in the Empire, and you interfere with the Grand Inquisitor's mission, or God forbid Vader's, because you despise and don't respect any Force users. Suddenly you have an Imperial shuttle boarding your star destroyer, and within 5 minutes there's a lightsaber in your gut, or you're being choked to death or your neck is being snapped. I don't recall very well, but I'm pretty sure Vader force-choked an admiral on the Death Star for insulting the force and all who wield it. That is why the Inquisitors were respected. In fact, the Inquisitors were created to keep that fear fresh. All the Jedi feared them. The civilians feared them. Lower officers feared them.

@silverstargaming20
@silverstargaming20 2 жыл бұрын
@@SammEater Well, the reason being is that this was before George Lucas envisioned inquisitors. At the time there was just Vader and Palpatine. Most Imperial officers in the OT should have known about Jedi. After all, just 20 years before, the galaxy was full of them. However, again, Lucas didn't think about the Prequels, or really anything about the clone wars except that they existed. Obi-Wan was supposed to be this wise old hermit, yet a veteran of the Clone Wars. The only mention of it is in that one scene, and it was initially implied to have happened like 30-40 years ago. Well, it was half that. Again, the main elements of the OT can always be used seamlessly, but the finer details are often confusing, especially after seeing the Clone Wars, knowing they ended 19 years before the Battle of Yavin, knowing Tarkin knew the Jedi and knew Anakin became Vader. Everyone is confused as to why Kenobi is so old in the OT films, until they remember that Star Wars had JUST begun then. George Lucas didn't have anything besides the OT planned out. Star Wars was supposed to just be one movie initially. But now we have an expanded universe, through which other things that weren't explained in the OT are given an explanation.

In a galaxy of 1000's of planets and now only a handful of force users, it would probably be pretty easy for a number of imperial officers to have never seen an inquisitor or an emperor's hand for that matter. Heck, during the height of the Republic with 1000's of jedi knights, it was almost unheard of to see one on the outer rim. Even though they should be known, it is quite possible for many to go their entire lives and never see one.
@luxarcanae

Long story short: Congrats you guys made me look up freaking rebels release date. So apperantly the Inquisitors are not a thing George Lucas made. There used to be a EU book in like 1989 that described them and some other stuff in the 90s but under Lucas they never saw an entry into star wars official stuff. The first time an inquisitor appeared was indeed star wars rebels. In the back of my mind I thought rebels was entirely a disney production and the reason why they canceled the clone wars (which is far supperior to rebels and I still say that canceling the clone wars was disneys first, almost worst and most stupid mistake when they took over star wars but thats besides the point) was because they wanted to push rebels instead. One duckduckgo search later and I know I was right. The inquisitors are entirely a disney BS thing and that's why you have to jump through several mental hoops and have at least one brain injury to make them make sense in the original trilogy. Though ngl, @JoshuaBonesteel that explaination I honestly would except if it was canon cause at least that doesn't require the brain injury.

I’m just assuming for the stories convenience that Leia is magically gonna be to stupid to figure out Obi wan and Ben the Jedi are the same person even though she isn’t that stupid. My biggest issue is how Reva knows Anakin is Vader when he’s known to just fuck people up and murder them when they know unless the Emperor says otherwise like with Thrawn and Tarkin. "...when we remember the value of stories and how to tell them well." From the bottom of my heart, thank you for saying this. That is exactly, 100%, spot-on correct. Nothing pains me more than the sloppy writing mistakes. I'm not even talking about the big stuff. I'm talking about characters making irrational, implausible or out-of-character choices merely to shoehorn in predetermined plot points. Do these writers not revise? Do executives and producers and directors not read the scripts? Viewers -- not just long-time fans but ALL VIEWERS -- deserve a better product from a company like Disney.

Definitely. I think a lot of this gets lost in the heat of battle when it comes to much-loved IPs like Star Wars and Star Trek. People on both sides - understandably - spend the vast majority of their time arguing points like canon and politics, which are undeniably important. But at least as bad, albeit in subtler ways, is the foundational stuff - writing, motivations, incentives, logical progression, reliance on luck an led stupidity to make progress, character consistency, etc., ad nauseam. I think that goes a long way toward explaining why, as all these beloved stories are being torn down, nothing new is arising to replace them. It’s not just that we can’t write Star Wars, it’s that we seem to be incapable of writing anything.

You know, I was expecting a Kenobi story inspired by "Death Rides a Horse" and "13 Assassins" in which after several years of hiding, Obi-Wan learns of an opportunity to kill Palpatine and avenge the fallen Jedi. But is this case he will ultimately fail, learning that he too is vulnerable to the destruction of fear and anger. Obi-Wan hits rock bottom and quietly returns to hiding. Luke, Leia and possibly Vader have no knowledge of this gambit, preserving both the original story and the fearful dominance that the Empire imposed. Then again, this is Disney and the glory days of MGM are long past.

YES! A story about Obiwan trying to make up for mistakes that he blames himself for making (regardless of how at fault he is really) only to realize that he risks falling to the dark like Anikan did is PERFECT. If she's doing so without direct orders from Vader or the Emperor allowing her to, yeah. That and the Emperor still wants to give the illusion of democratic society until he dissolved the imperial senate and put the regional governors into power at the beginning of ANH so having a rogue force-sensitive running around kidnapping the daughter of a senator would be something he couldn't ignore. So he would track the inquisitor down, kill them, save the girl, and then turn around and claim it was a rogue Jedi terrorist who did it. This was cathartic to listen to. Very well articulated. One thing that people haven't touched on is how easy it is for the Organas to get in touch with Obi-Wan now. They apparently have a direct line to reach him exactly where he is, all the way from Alderaan. And then later we see Bail teleport directly to Obi-Wan's random cave, just like that. It's just that easy for anyone to track him. If this was the case in Episode 4, why bother sending Leia on a risky mission to recruit him without his knowledge? Why wasn't Bail just like "bro, get ready, sending my daughter to pick you up"? They're just breaking shit left and right.

Bail knows where Obi-Wan is. He is in on all the secrets. That he could contact him is not some shocker. When will she be fired? Everything he touches turns into garbage. He ruined Luke, he ruined Han Solo, he ruined Leia. Now he's killing Kenobi. How long will we tolerate this? Boycott this Disney stupidity until K.K. is fired. No one will fire her if we continue to be patient and pay to watch another stupidity. But apparently at some point I´ve slipped into a different dimension because according to these new diversity hire actors there was never a woman or black person present in a movie or show made before the "outbreak" so the movies I remember from my childhood can´t exist because I remember tons of black people.

The BIGGEST probably with episode one is that unlike the other shows, we have a very big reason to return to/ stay on Tatooine! They gave him a job, a community, and potential for conflict, and with that you can have an interesting episodic adventure with little conflicts everywhere, who needs the empire aside from maybe one Inquisitor!? The fact that he leaves Tatooine at all was silly, Leia was awful, and Obi Wan was a bit aggressive with this guy that was scamming poor people instead of being cheeky, calm, and smart about it. @Mike DeMarco So in the 9 years between this series and the beginning of A New Hope Bail never tells Leia, “oh yeah, that guy who saved you was my friend Obi Wan from the Clone Wars that I told you about.” Or when Obi delivers her back to Bail he doesn’t call him Obi Wan? Or if Bail and Obi Wan are still in contact surely he knows Obi goes by Ben. Why would he send Leia looking for Obi Wan when he knows he goes by Ben now and that would be the better way to find him.

@Mike DeMarco Why wouldn’t he if he trusts Leia? Why wouldn’t he at least tell her before he sends her out specifically to find him? And why didn’t he just reach out to Obi Wan himself since he got in touch with him in this series so easily?

As a gay person I'm really tired of them baiting people like me, or another minority, to think we'll actually be represented in an organic way and not just as tokens. There's nothing diverse about what they're doing, it's all just smoke and mirrors.

If Disney actually believed in what they're propagating they'd have allowed Oscar Isaac and John Boyega to become a couple, which both actors were open to. But no. Mustn't offend anybody with anything gay. Let's keep the Black man chasing the white girl and not get her, anyway. Disney don't care about us. It's a sham and a shit show they're attacking people for hating a diversity which isn't even there.

Besides Mandalorian, how do they constantly get atrocious writers? And with Disney’s Money, how do the shows feel cheap (Book of Boba Fett & Obi-Wan Kenobi)

I’ll admit the review caught me off guard: I had some cash down that “Space Moses” would’ve hijacked this show already. She’s still a flagrant Mary Sue it seems, but she hasn’t sidelined Kenobi yet. Leia being the Mary Sue instead was unexpected, but there is always a Sue.

For me, it won't ruin the original films, because I refuse to let it. I will reject and forget this trash just as I had to do with the sequel trilogy. Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and even Return of the Jedi remain 100x better than any attempts by idiots at Disney to destroy them.

Honestly, I'm just surprised at this point that Disney hasn't just decanonized A New Hope by now. They have no care for that film and they are happy to change the backstories of everyone involved. I guarantee this show is going to have a confrontation between Obi-Wan, Vader and Leia/Luke and it's not going to make any sense.

“Disney’s anti-racist racism” is finally getting noticed by general audiences, but it’ll be a while before Disney is actually forced to stop.

Your commentaries are golden, they're such a delight and bring out so much brilliant humor and obvious faux pas. Aside from poorly written scripts is Deborah Chow as a director who has failed miserably on Kenobi as well. Her direction was not ominous or dark, it's an embarrassment, void of canon and details, almost hysterically with idiotic contrivances. 😅 ❤
