I loved that passage. Anakin, as a young Padawan, was such a fascinating child. He was so insightful and aware (even self-aware) and yet so damaged.

I love the psychoanalysis of these fictional characters. They are not real but I still feel like there are lessons to be learned here. We should all aspire to become something nobler and better than we are. Being human isn't easy. Mastery of our emotions is paramount.

You know it's all sad when Kenobi was just doing his best to not only fulfill Jinn's death wish, but to support Skywalker also. Kenobi is not responsible for Skywalker's fall of grace, but the Jedi Council, and they had to help them both.

So true, and in Legends Obi-Wan is constantly telling the council things (either about Anakin or about assignments) and the council never listens till it's too late.

Obi-Wan isn't responsible, but neither is the Jedi Council. Anakin is (by the time he falls) a grown man and responsible for his own actions.

@@glasses685 You really are heartless and stupid. Both Obi Wan and the council bear major responsibility as so many of their actions isolated Anakin. Remember when they thought it was a bright idea to fake kill Obi Wan and let Anakin believe he was dead for the longest time, or how about he was constantly being held back. Obi Wan stupidly didn't take Anakin's dreams seriously when they appeared night after night and just tried to pass them off as just dreams which is especially stupid as in Legends as Anakin had visions of Yaddle's death before it happened, and this time it cost his mother's life. Maybe it escaped you notice but Anakin was only 22 when he fell, and his life was not a good one. For the first 9 year of his life, he was a slave, then spent the next ten years in an order where he was constantly shunned and mocked all the while slowly being manipulated by Palpatine. Then he lost his arm and spent the next 3 years in a galactic war where he saw 100's of thousands to millions die. His Padawan who he raised and trained was framed for a crime she didn't commit, and the Jedi Council betrayed her by throwing her out. And these are just some highlights, so really what choice did he really have?

​@@glasses685Well yes but the point people often try to get across is that, to understand why Anakin chose the dark side, you've gotta look at the decisions of everybody involved with him throughout his life. The council showed Anakin neglect, and did not care for him as an individual with unique needs. Palpatine weaponized that.

I do like to think the deep down inside, as much as Obi-Wan would never admit it there were times, he needed to be compassionate to Anakin, rather than try to make him the way he was. He should’ve allowed Anakin to find his own path as a Jedi, he stood for what was right, and it was ultimately Obi-Wan in the council, and their dogmatic ways that pushed Anakin further and further towards darkness. Obi-Wan himself should’ve known what love could do to someone as he was in love with satine

I think that only someone that had known familial ties in a personal way like Anakin did could've helped him better. But that's just a thought I had in the moment.

I would love to see and would definitely watch a movie or a series of an alternate reality where qui-gon Jin defeats maul and gets to train anakin! He was without doubt the one who would be able to help and understand anakin the most with his very adaptable and not soo strict way of dealing with the force and the rules of the jedi

Yes and no. I say no because the full prophecy of the Chosen One was not known to a lot of people when the prequels came out. The Chosen One was essentially designed to be a purger of corruption and evil on both sides of the Force, which Anakin did both. He purged the corruption of the Jedi through Order 66, and he executed Order Fall and Go Splat on the Emperor to destroy the Sith. It’s a fair point that Obi-Wan wouldn’t have known that, so I can’t really fault him on that, because even Yoda pointed out that the prophecy could’ve been misread. But do I think that Obi-Wan could’ve contributed to the areas that caused Anakin to make the decisions he did? Yes. Anakin decided to become a Jedi to save the ones he loved, like the slaves on Tatooine, or his mother, or even his wife. The Jedi Council at the time of AOTC had become corrupt, because they were not doing the job of keeping the peace by helping people who needed legitimate help, which is one of the reasons Dooku left. Anakin could’ve deservedly seen this as another example of the Jedi being hesitant to help, when his mother died.

Obi Wan wasn’t ready for the task of taking on such a powerful padawan. Qui Gon was about the will of the force and not about the politics of the Jedi Order. I think Anakin needed that form of guidance. He needed a more empathetic teacher to help him in his inner struggles instead of one who was entirely too dismissive of them. Obi Wan just blindly followed the rule book. Qui Gon followed the force. When Obi Wan called Anakin arrogant, I sensed a bit of jealousy in him. While OWK was a loyal Jedi, he was not a very honest person either. Certain POV was a weak excuse. The Jedi Order seemed to fear Anakin and tried to slow play him in an effort to control him due to that. Yoda and Obi Wan did the same to Luke. Im glad Luke called them on it. In the end, they all played right into Palpatine's hands. The Jedi ignored Anakin's darker traits that stemmed from attachment because they needed him to win battles. Obi Wan did the same. Would it have been that hard to send someone to check on Shmi if his padawan was having agonizing visions? Maybe OWK just didn’t know what to do. Anakin failed also in knowingly breaking the rules. He was also just a kid with too heavy a burden that everyone around him seemed all too willing to let him shoulder. It was a well thought out storyline.

Exactly! You can't blame others for your mistakes and failures, only cowards do that, yes the jedi were flawed but Anakin had no right to use that as an excuse to do what he did by making a choice to turn to the dark side, lesson from Anakin's fall, life is about choices and bad choices lead to consequences, Anakin chose to hate rather than love and forgive and that was his ultimate failure

Obi stans are the ones who are stupid who refuse to accept that Obi Wan had a major role in Anakin's fall. Remember when he tried to pass off Anakin's visions of his mother as just dreams which is really stupid as in Legends Anakin had death vision's before about Yaddle that came true, and then his mother died in his arms. Remember the time when Obi Wan faked his death and they hid the truth from Anakin. Remember with Ahsoka, he did nothing to try to prove her innocence, that was all Anakin. These are just some of Obi Wan's major failings with Anakin.
