This was a great request! I LOVE the art for Oblivion's classes. It's basically what I think about when thinking about the class I want to play in other TES games.

Another possibility would be not only how "effective" the base classes are, but how "thematic" they are ; that is to say how good are they at representing what they want to represent. That ranking can then be combined with the "efficiency rating" for the final rating of a given class.
@Mr._Anderpson23 сағат бұрын
It has been years since I've played it, but people tend to sell Restoration short. It isn't just about topping off the health bar. One of my favorite runs was a custom druid-type class which had Restoration as a major skill and focused on the fortify skill or attribute spells. The idea was he would invoke various animal spirits to boost his abilities. Need to go faster, hit harder, or jump higher for a few seconds? That's Restoration in Oblivion (unless I'm remembering completely wrong, which is possible.) Absorb Health is a great offensive spell for the school and even things like magic resistance fall under it. Some of the abilities probably should have fallen under Alteration.

Oblivion’s levelling system would only be half as bad if it told you how it works. Half the time the descriptions are misleading. That’s why for the longest time I didn’t know that minor skills influenced the attribute increase when levelling up. Because of this I used to think that the mage class was really solid. Thanks for the videos. Perfect infotainment.

I played Oblivion on release and beat the game several times, with different classes and races (didn't use custom class until maybe some 2015. playtrough) and I first learnt about level scaling and that it was a problem to some players around 2011. Funny how it panned out for me, as my classes of choice are spellsword, battlemage, sorcerer, crusader, knight and warrior. That and I always favored combat heavy builds and reflect spells and enchantments.

Too bad that personality and speech are so neglected in Elder Scrolls. My original character was an imperial rogue, so my disposition was high with almost everyone after doing the faction quests. I loved how the guards, who are all imperials, would just ignore my bounty and say "Looks like you're in some trouble. Since we're friends, don't worry". Would be great if your character wouldn't have to be good at combat, and instead complete quests with charm, trickery, and convincing people to join your quests.

Can you combi-wear light and heavy armor pieces to level both at the same time?
@spookhorse2 күн бұрын
You can, but it is far less efficient for both types. Every "hit" you take witbout blocking gives you a set amount of experience in whatever armor you have equipped in the area that was "hit." All hits are randomly assigned to head, body hands, legs, feet and shield. (Thats why a mudcrab can damage your helmet, even though it is snipping at your ankles) Generally, it is better to focus on the one armor type you prefer, and heavy is generally better than its light equivalent if you can handle the extra weight, until you reach Master levels, which makes the high end armor sets (glass and deadric for light and heavy respectively) basically equal in protection and weight (when worn). At that point heavy armor just has more health.

@nybethobdilord69122 күн бұрын
I actuary think Crusader and Sorcerer is better than you think and deserve A tier. Having Heavy Armor alongside magic skills as your major skills is very strong. Restoration being a major skill to me is important because it's true that it's so slow you need trainers for it but that means it being a major skill is so much more important because of the money you'll save. You're not always gonna have the gold to train the skill.
@theoldknight85Күн бұрын
That’s fair about restoration. Idk about a tier for crusader though, they have all 3 strength skills and it’s just a lot of waste.
@nybethobdilord6912Күн бұрын
I actually dove deeper into the meta of Oblivion and the tier list would need complete restructuring. Because it turns out it's way better having hard to level or useless skills as your major skills than to have the ones you need. This is because if you have the ones you want as major skills then your leveling will be really inefficient as you'll gain less stat gains per level. Making you weaker than enemies that scale with you.
@spicedoliveoil7928Күн бұрын
@@nybethobdilord6912What you are describing is called “efficient levelling”. It’s the most powerful way to build your character, but I think Oldknight finds it a waste of time, because of how annoying and slow efficient levelling can be.
