The oil cooler on a 7.3 is a filthy job, but the tricky part is making sure you don’t crack the aluminum front cover. I’m not nitpicking but the way you tried it first is the number one way of cracking that cover. I always fully assemble the cooler, put it in as one unit and then torque those bolts down nice and easy. I’ve done dozens of those and never had an issue, but seen guys crack that cover and then it ends up at my shop where I have to slightly lift the cab to pull the engine up enough to get that front cover off…now THATS a nightmare 😂

Yeah I did hear that was a big no no but the video I watched the guy had luck with it😂 I didn’t put enough force on it for me to worry about cracking it but I could only imagine how bad that could be 😂

@@electricsmith1650first off. Much respect for tackling that job. I feel like if you’re going to be a guy that drives an older truck you should know how to work on it for the most part. I think I know the video you’re talking about, and the guy does slide it in with the front third attached. Risky, but I suppose you can get away with it. Noticed you said you were out in vernal. I’m in Utah if you ever get in a bind always happy to walk a guy through some things. I’ve owned 19 OBS fords and definitely missed the boat on all the videos like you do. I’ve built them all the way from the ground up and am doing an engine in my 96 right now and building a 90 F150 for my daughters first truck.

Thanks man! It would be back already if it wasn’t for the dang slave cylinder. Idk how I’m gonna get that back on 😂

Went to change my coolant in my obs and found a bunch of sludge too. Hopping mine is just the oil cooler but this job seems like a pain. This weekend will be fun

It wasn’t fun that’s for sure! Hopefully it goes well for you!

Could also be your injector cups. That’s another place where the oil and coolant can mix it up together

Next up is the oil pan

Pan doesn’t leak! rear main does. Shouldn’t have replaced it when I did my clutch!
