Can you use NDI from one pc directly to another pc via usb bypassing the router all together ?
@EposVox7 жыл бұрын
No, it's specifically a network protocol. Also direct USB-USB connections between PCs never really works out for much of anything.
@Barnacules7 жыл бұрын
You could technically use a USB NIC to USB NIC however. Also, I believe there is a way in Windows to create a network stack over USB (male to male). We used to use it at Microsoft for syncing data between boxes, however not sure if it is in the retail product.

Hello! Thanks for making these tutorials. I'm not new at all to PC's or PC gaming but I am new to streaming. These videos will help me get my stream up and running faster and easier. I do have a question though. (of course lol) I want to run a 2 PC stream. My question is this: Will my R5 2600 OC'd to 4 Ghz and 16 GB of 3k MHz RAM be adequate as my stream PC? I will be using my R7 2700, 16 GB, and 1070 for gaming.

Same for us. We recently did a 24hr stream over on Twitch using a laptop as the NDI streaming rig, and two gaming PCs each set to their own scene (and one scene that had both PC feeds on it so viewers can see both our screens), and it kicked butt for the whole 24hrs. At one point, threw my cell phone into the NDI stream as a source as I walked around the house, and that was pretty cool too. NDI rocks.

id say yes, but at the same time you might notice a tiny tiny bit of FPS loss. Like, not alot honestly. Ultimately a high quality capture card is still the best route, but trying NDI wont cost you anything.

Hey great video. I’m from Australia and we get nbn fibre which delivers 100mbps. Is that fast enough to be able to use NDI to deliver a good stream
@EposVox7 жыл бұрын
NDI only goes across your home network from one end to the other, so your internet speed isn't relevant - just the networking hardware you have. But 100mbps is great for streaming overall.
@x2Twins7 жыл бұрын
EposVox okay cool. So I’m from Australia and we have had nbn rolling out so I have that now. From the house copper cabling runs to the node nearby which then goes the the fibre optic cabling the nbn provides. Do you know if that’s good enough? If not thanks for interacting and helping me out. I dropped a sub :)

I started using this today amd used my old laptop as a streaming pc. My gaming rig was struggling hard to play and stream and now I can play and just have obs open. I’m upgrading internet tomorrow too 400mbps so hopefully that helps. My game ran great, but my stream was a little laggy. I also switched after from 1080-720..I was greedy the first time. I bet it runs better with faster internet and lower res. NDi is magic! It saved me so much. Capture cards can go eff themselves. I love NDI!! I created a scene so I can start stream then walk over to gaming rig then change scene and boom I’m gaming then have an end scene that hides me walking across room to end stream. It’s so much fun actually and you can truly do a ton this way and your gaming pc no longer has to go ham to try and stream and game. Total life/money saver. I’m super stoked about NDI!!

Can NDI stream individual Windows or does it have to stream the entire desktop?
@EposVox7 жыл бұрын
If you're just using the OBS plugin, you can stream whatever you want. Whatever you set up on the OBS canvas, you can send over. Or Newtek has a streaming program to customize what you feed too. So you can do games, individual windows, webcams, whole desktop. NewTek and BirdDog sell dedicated wireless NDI broadcasters for HDMI cameras, but they're $500+ and only send like 15mbps bitrate over your network to the receiving PC.
@banggugyangu7 жыл бұрын
NDI scan converter can grab individual windows and send them over a network with no problems.
@Theexplorographer7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I use NDI tools, NDI Scan Converter and NDI monitor. If you just have 1 source to send to OBS on a second machine, I just use the Scan Converter on the sending machine instead of having it run through OBS. If I want extra overlays, etc, I will use OBS for that with the NDI output plugin.
@themightydrakonis11395 жыл бұрын
Am I understanding correctly that you're basically still using OBS as usual to switch scenes and stuff, but instead of streaming directly from the computer that is capturing everything, it's sending everything over to the secondary PC? So I would go about running my stream as usual with all of the alerts and everything coming to the PC that I'm gaming on, but it's being streamed from the other PC?

Hey EposVox, thank you so much for providing all this knowledge! I have three very important questions, that I don't think were adressed: 1. Was this after you spoke to Psynaps about the RTMP stuff? Relevant to me because you were going to do RTMP then and discussed NDI in the end of that 2. Is it possible to record just the game source on the gaming rig, using NVENC and bitrate 200000, at the same time as outputting it to the stream rig via NDI? 3. If question 2 is a yes, is it also possible, to record the final stream footage, which would be composed on the stream rig, using NVENC and bitrate 200000 at the same time as streaming it from the stream rig? I would be forever in your debt, if you can answer these. Thanks for reading

Gotte be aware of NDI using AVX a lot, resulting in more power usage of the sources processor and with such more heat. Another issue (although this is the same when using an additional local OBS-instance for previewing to a capture card to work around tearing) are lagged frames, so one gotta make sure the source-pc doesnt run at 100% cpu/gpu usage. Besides this it is amazing and i love not having to use a capture card anymore - no more awkward audio setups!!!

On my setup, I set everything up on my gaming PC as if I were going to stream from a single system. Then I just capture that on the 2nd PC with OBS NDI. So that way I have full control of the stream from the main computer.
@GR4127 жыл бұрын
Also, this may sound like an obvious question, but are the scenes and sources in OBS located and controlled on the streaming PC or on the gaming PC? I'm not entirely sure.

You're sending a signal from one OBS to the other. Whatever is set up in the scene on your gaming PC shows up in the source on your second PC as if it's a webcam or something. You can add more overlays or whatever from there. So the answer is "both." But you wanna do most of the extra overlays and mixing and such on your streaming PC to reduce performance impact on gaming PC.

I'm still quite confused as to what I should set my scale output on my gaming pc and what it would mean for the base and scaled resolution settings on the streaming pc. And is it the best to scale in the video tab on my gaming pc or leave it all unscaled and scale it on my streaming pc? Or in which tab schould I scale (Video or Output) and on which pc (Gaming or Streaming)? I don't really seem to find an answer about that, or maybe it's common knowledge but sadly not for me :p Looking forward to your answer if you would have the time :) Anyways nice videos!

The NDI send is only affected by the Video tab in settings on the gaming PC. Output settings on that PC do not affect anything
@ItsPabloDiscobar6 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks for the reply! Really appreciate your time. And when I scale on the gaming pc in the video tab I guess that I have to set the basic canvas on the streaming pc equal to the scaled setting on gaming pc right? Or do you think that's it's better to send out 1080p and then scale it via the video tab or the output tab on the streaming pc? These are my last settings I've been stuck at :p Thanks again tho!
@EposVox6 жыл бұрын
If you're scaling anyway it's more cost-effective to do it on the gaming PC first and then match settings on Streaming PC. But it's not a huge difference either way TBH, and doing it on Streaming PC gives you more flexibility

1 - the audio mixed in OBS is sent over as 1 track as if it was being sent to a stream. So stuff needs balanced in the gaming rig or your mic/etc. hooked up to your encoding rig and balanced there. 2 - You don't need 2 ethernet ports, your computers both need to be plugged into a router or switch, not to each other. 3 - no, SLOBS doesn't have any plugin support at all rn

I really don't want to have to fork out the $250 AUD for a HD60PRO but it's looking like I have to because I can't fix this at all. @EposVox6 жыл бұрын
Your output settings tab has no effect. Only the resolution/framerate from the video tab. The final mix - as if it's being sent to your streaming destination - is sent via NDI. Only optimizations really are to reduce network congestion or run a dedicated LAN line between the two PCs and send NDI over that. Or to send a lower resolution from PC 1.

Yeah you can go a lower tier or so

I use a Xeon E5-1620 (sandy bridge hyperthreading quad-core, 3.6ghz base/3.9ghz turbo) as the CPU in my second PC for NDI streaming and it works great. You could even possibly get away with a quad or hex core from 1st gen core i-series era if you can find a cheap enough setup. Say..an HP Z400 with a Xeon quad or hex core for anywhere from $150-$300 depending on config, from ebay. I stream 720p60 at 5500kbps, but 1080p30 would also easily be doable. Even have the CPU preset in OBS cranked up to Medium. A hyperthreading dual core can do 720p30fps as an NDI rig from past experience too.

Hey, great video man! But, I do have a problem, when I'm streaming using NDI, I get high ping playing online, both PC's have a wired connection to my router. So when is sending the data to the other PC I see that it uses 70 to 100mb. I have 100/100. Is there a way to fix this without setting the lowest bandwidth? Like setting an specific amount of speed to use?
@EposVox5 жыл бұрын
"100/100" as in your router is only 100mbit capable locally? Virtually any router made in the last 20 years should be running gigabit. Your internet speed is irrelevant to your local network transfer speed
@evilencho74565 жыл бұрын
@@EposVox I think I know what the problem is, all my wired connections are using a CAT6 or CAT6 cable instead of gigabit, could that be the problem?
@EposVox5 жыл бұрын
@@evilencho7456 CAT6 can sustain gigabit, and even 10 gigabit speeds if you had 10gig hardware. That's not the problem.

And this affects somehow the performance of multiplayer games ? latency ?

so does that mean things like scene switching needs to be done on the other PC? Sorry a little confused

Yep! Made a big video essay about what NDI is all about last month: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqCbqWesf72ArZI And I have a video interview coming next week w/ NDI's creator!

so the Ethernet is going to router ? or is going Pc to Pc, my 2 pc have 1 ethernet
@EposVox4 жыл бұрын
As long as both are wired to a router or switch that's all you need.

Do you have to use the same network for both of the computers? I have my gaming pc and then i have a laptop i'd like to stream on. I was thinking if i can use phones network on the streaming pc and WIFI on gaming, does that work?

A question though: If I set up to stream in 720p how low can I go on the second PC?
@TheNielsAlmelo7 жыл бұрын
will it impact the system from the ndi output or is the impact as small as it would be with a capture card?
@EposVox7 жыл бұрын
It can't be as small as a capture card to a second rig, but it's way way way smaller impact than encoding on the single machine
@TheNielsAlmelo7 жыл бұрын
thank you for your quick response! I also heard people saying that cat5 is to slow, and you needed cat 5e/6. if so, do you know if its just fine to have the faster cables run to a switch, and have the switch connected with the modem with a normal cat 5 cable?
@EposVox7 жыл бұрын
For most uses, unless your cat5 runs are super short, it will be too slow. Generally maxes out at 100mbps and even for 1080p60, NDI can use 200+mbps throughput.
@TheNielsAlmelo7 жыл бұрын
oh okay, so would you recommend a cat6 from my switch to my router? or would cat6 from the computers to the switch work just fine?
@EposVox7 жыл бұрын
All you need is from computers to the switch. Just need NDI throughput between each PC, not to the internet

Hmmm.. I bought an old USB 2.0 Bridge cable today to connect my gaming PC to the streaming PC so I could transfer the data (rather than it go over the modem which I figure should be dedicated to the internet action and uploading the stream - or would my modem handle the 100mb/s video/audio being sent between pc's without causing issues on the internet modem???), is this workable? I've been looking at this for a few hours now because the old cable's driver's don't work with win 10

Potentially a dumb question but, if the NDI plugin uses your network, does it get sent somewhere and back or does it stay on the network? Aka does it have a heavy impact on network speed ?
@Travis2L5 жыл бұрын
No. It’s on your LOCAL network. No internet usage. Only internet used is when your streaming pc is broadcasting to your destination and the bandwidth it requires to play the game.
