Hello I find you a couple of weeks ago and I like your way how you can try to make the people to understand the gait analysis. I have a Quick question.... If a person used to walk before a below knee amputation with "toe out angle" relative to walking base , after amputation does this person will continue to walk with toe out angle? I don't know but I feel the wide step walking stars from the rotation of the hip.. Am I right?

This can get really complex very quickly. A normal walking posture does typically involve 10 to 14 degrees of toe out. This is normal for the majority of people. Sometimes hips or knees can play a role in increasing or decreasing this position. For a prosthetic limb, the toe out is set by the prosthetist to accomplish a specific goal. They may increase the toe to get stability, or make the foot more straight to match the opposite side. Hips and knees continue to play a significant role for lower limb amputees, but an in-person physical therapist would be best able to determine what is involved.

Hi there. This form is developed for general use and has not been validated for any population in formal research at this time. We use it as a teaching tool to develop a systematic observational gait analysis. Both use of this form and observational gait analysis in general need to be supported by other objective data to support clinical decision making.
