Been in my condo 6 years in November my daffodils were scattered all over. I dug them up make a big clump. They are the tiny ones, I dug out a lot that were growing poorly. Put in hearty Hibiscus. One was rated my zone 6 3 others colder zones. They wake up about middle of May. Grew Violas first time I have them growing all over the yard. With petunias I'm nursing lots of petunias.

Im NJ zone 7a. Two years ago I bought 50 delnasugh daffodils. I wasn't sure but I wanted a daffodil to complement my ice follies. I've fallen in love with them to the point where I've placed an order for 100 of them as well as 100 of the ice valleys to have all over the yard so whatever I plan a nice follie I'm putting a delnasugh daffodil!!!! I also have cheerfulness their tiny but they smell so lovely. I have some topsy-turvy, dutch master. Also a blend called starry night. All of all my daffodils I get from Colorblends.

I love all the info you provide in your videos. I'm new to growing bulbs. What is the benefit of deadheading daffodils? Is it required for them to naturalize? Does it mean removing only the swollen tip after the bloom has faded? Many thanks! 😊

All my daffodils have since bloomed and we're so tall and now they are just flopped over but the leaves have not turned yellow. They look unsightly in the garden because they don't stand up straight. What is wrong or what should I do with them. I'm on Zone 9.

Narcissus (Daffodils) are my favorite! Pest proof, permanent, hardy, multiply freely, historic, fragrant, cheerful early spring bloomers. I've searched for the most fragrant varieties & buy nearly all of mine from Old House Gardens. They specialize in heirloom bulbs & hard to find varieties, some pre-1600's! (They have an online catalog if interested.) Some favorites are: Geranium (orange cup/white petals, mult-flowered stems, highly scented 18-20";) Louise de Coligny daffodil (apricot cup/white petals, fragrant 18-20"); and the shorter, classic pheasant’s eye daffodil (red rimmed/shallow yellow cup with white petals.) Of course I have many more which extend the season on either end.

Daffodils are my purple passion. We grow over a thousand on our one acre property, 15 varieties so far. But every year, I order at least 3 new varieties. I love the wide variety and that they naturalize so easily. We've been spreading them in our neighborhood. We'd like their joy to spread everywhere! My favorite daffodil this year is Split Cornona Cassata! It is so elegant! I love your Lemon Beauty and Sherbourne--I don't have those yet. I grow Dutch Master, Salome, Tahiti, Cheerfulness (white and yellow varieties--they are my favorite for scent--they smell like jasmine) Winston Churchill, Cotinga, White Lion, Rose of May, Stainless, Thalia, Poeticus, Split Corona Cassata, Split Corona Apricot Whirl, Silver Bells, and Delnashaugh. My goal is to have daffodils from 10 of their 13 divisions. I just need 2 more divisions--but my favorite are doubles. I've also started getting some heirloom varieties. Silver Bells is a 1604 variety!! I'm thrilled to have that one! Sherbourne looks like a real winner! I'll have to jot that one down for the fall! I am so addicted to daffies--and I love it that way!

Zone 9a (Houston), I only ever see the solid white varieties -- but those do naturalize readily. These usually bloom from mid January to early February. We have a super short season from spring ephemerals. Tulips aren't even really a thing unless the City plants them, and they plant them as individual plants already at color crack. We do have a great cool flower season, which spans from October to early April.
@aalejardin
@aalejardin Жыл бұрын
If you want something vibrant, try Banana Split or Tahiti. Sherbourne is indeed a great late season daff -- mine are going strong now (Zone 6b Hudson Valley). Jetfire is a very reliable earlier daff in my garden (shorter). Also, can one ever have enough Tête-à-tête? They are too small for cutting but they naturalize so well and are the first to bloom in my garden so provide very welcome cheer. Cassatta is beautiful but did not work well for me in my naturalizing areas-- probably better in a garden bed. I've planted many daffs in the last two years on my new property and over the winter I was thinking maybe I had enough and should concentrate elsewhere. Then came spring, and now of course I am ordering more. Thanks for showing us the varieties you love -- I am definitely going to try some.

Nice! I got a couple mixed bags at Home Depot in JANUARY this year, 75% off. A lot of them turned out to be identical, with a few that were interesting. A lot of plain yellow trumpets, but that is okay it still is nice to have flowers to cut and be cheery. I found the best bulbs come from nurseries with a name on them though here.

I love most daffodils but have a special fondness for those that have pink, peach or apricot in them. I am also partial to the smaller multi-stemmed narcissus. Lemon Star looks like one I’d like to grow as is Sherbourne but I have not had good luck with highly double daffs; the calyx sometimes does not open up to release the bloom. Have you experienced this? This year, I pulled it off some flowers that were having difficulty but they just didn’t perform as I thought they should based on photos I’ve seen. Your videos have prompted me to try some new varieties; can’t wait for the fall catalogs to arrive! 💛🤍🩷🧡 (Loved your reaction to all that affection from Grace. LOL!) 🐾♥️

Your garden is looking so beautiful and love these daffodils! Because of your influence, my husband and I spent a few days in Chadds Ford and visited Longwood. We were amazed at how beautiful the whole property is and especially loved the spring bulbs. Thanks to your tour, I was able to see some of the tulips that were fading in their prime. No problem though because a few varieties were still looking gorgeous. We were astonished at all the work and beauty in the conservatory. Erin (The Impatient Gardener) loves Chanticleer so we visited that as well and loved it's intimacy and more relaxed structure. Unfortunately, Winterthur is closed on Mondays and I didn't do a very good job planning that one. 🙄 Love Gracie's photo bomb!

I've never planted daffodils but this year I have a new appreciation for them. I'm in MI 6a/b - wondering if you have any problems with squirrels digging them up? I’m obsessed as well! I’ve added many more over the past few years and this spring I was able to finally reap the rewards of daffodils at every turn, en masse, for many weeks-just stunning. Two favorites are ‘Golden Echo’ and ‘Pipit’-they are almost exactly opposite of each other in their coloration. I have one blooming just now, don’t know the name, but it’s small, peach, and a multi-headed bloom. Possibly ‘Prosecco’. It’s so dainty. My all time favorite is the poeticus daffodil, and I can always find room for more! A favorite small early variety is ‘Rapture’-it looks like it’s fighting against winter wind, and prevailing! They actually do make me smile every time I look at them 🙂 and they catch the evening (back)light beautifully.
