For me, the hardest part of a job like this would be actually finding a mechanic that I'd trust enough to do it properly and as thoroughly as you have. Top job Dave!

Great video. I took my superduke gt apart after watching your video. I destroyed second gear on the input and output shaft on my engine, after doing a burn out and breaking the drive chain. The case got cracked on the rear mount. After tear done I assembled the 2 case halfs and they lined up perfectly on the dowels, so I decided to weld the damaged case. After grinding out the crack and making a fixture to hold locating I had the crack welded. Making another locating fixture I bored out the rear mount and faced off the top for the bushing to be reinstalled. Putting the 2 case half back to gether , the fit was still perfect. Thanks to you I put the oil pump back in the way they came out, (NOT THE WAY THE MANUAL SAYS) I did run into problems with getting the 22mm oil pump ( IT IS STILL IS ON BACK ORDER 1 YEAR LATTER) since I couldn't find the 22mm pump after alot of measuring and resurching I figured out that i can grind a 30 mm oil pump down to a 22mm because the only difference is the thickness. This is a job for a competent machine shop. Long story short after 1 year of waiting for all the parts the bike is running fine. Although I had one hick up timing it wrong due to the manuals translation to English and me not paying enough attention. I had the front cylinder 360 degrees off. Be careful and after timming the rear cylinder make sure you rotate the engine 360 degrees counter clockwise, then rotate it an additional 70 degrees counter clock wise. So my conclusion after fixing this engine is the same as yours KTM made this engine overly complicated to work on. And after waiting 1 year to get al the parts. I will probably BUY A Japanese bike so I can get parts when I need to repair it. AGIAN GREAT VIDEO IT HELP ALOT FIXING MY superduke 1290 gt

Sounds like you had all the ktm problems in one go. They're great bikes to ride, but I wouldn't be buying one having seen behind the scenes!!

Your 100 percent right. if you want the hardest bike to have to work on buy a Superduke Gt. But when your riding one you really don't care, because all that brute toqure is just addictive.

Dave I have a Gen 2, but I’m guessing they are just as bad to work on as this Gen 1 bike. Great videos again, thanks

aah the dreadful bleeding... its even worse on a 1290 super adventure, because the fuel tank is in the way. you need to remove the fuel tank to bleed the cooling system.

The constant moaning about a compact ,lightweight 180 hp race engine is not very reassuring , repairing simpler things like vintage Royal Enfields may be a better and happier choice. Imo there is nothing more "dangerous" than an over confident then fed up mechanic taking "care" of high end engines.
