Thanks for sharing and great you love it 😊 Truth is that we filmed a lot of high frame shots the past couple years to try to perfect the fish shots, the cruising and feeding and being the two of us we could really only shoot one camera and that was our focus. Luckily we also shot a fair bit live so we can sort of blend. Of course, this was all before we get going seriously on KZbin and we've had to edit what we have this winter. It's interesting. We certainly are looking forward to the new season and seeing how our vision can really bring it all together this year. It'll certainly be more nature moving forward 😊

I love the footage at 25:15, you can see the nymphs scurrying away from big ole brown. It’s interesting to see that not all are static in the drift and are actively avoiding getting eaten. First time I’ve seen footage of it though. Excellent! I just learnt recently about Nesameletidae and how you can tell by the way the fish is feeding whether they are on them or not. Cheers

"Wow" just Wow! This for me is probably the best video on a small stream, in terms of brown trout I have seen on your channel, & there is so many that are enjoyable, but this one for me has taken the cake. It's the lead up work, more so on this one, from hearing the sounds of lambs baaing to bird life chirping in the background. It doesn't get much better than this to paradise for me, other than that, pure silence of peace out there on a stream like this & I couldn't of felt more out there in the moment with yas just by watching this film if I tried, these types of waters for me are my favourite, no question! I love the gin clear low flowing waters that are near 'still' & watching the big browns cycling & having to analyze there movements, makes you have to really think about where to cast too, without alerting them in anyway by 'A' yourself 'B' by causing too much disturbance on the water with your line or fly rig setup. I loved seeing the enthusiast & excitement of Amelia on that early brown round the 6:14 min mark, great to see that, enjoyment & having fun while doing this first & foremost, keep them coming. I'm Just wondering which one of you two either Dave or Amelia is usually doing the admin work on KZbin as in the comments here?

And all that you described is where we are headed to with this channel as soon as we can get the season going here. Awesome as always (AAA!). thanks for explaining the casting motion. Casting long leaders is challenging for most novices, like me. Would you say that consciously pausing the back cast to avoid creep (or drift for that matter) is the key to successfully laying out that 35-foot cast? Or is there another key? Also never heard you all mention tippet rings. Do you like using them in all circumstances or just with ultra-long leaders? Thanks, A&D!
@jensenflyfishing3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need to have a solid pause on your back cast to let that long leader unfold and keeping your arm down will mean that you have far less chance of dropping that cast too far back. Also, remember that having line speed leading into that first back cast is critical too. We don't use tippet rings all the time, but yes if we're consistently working a longer leader they can be helpful unless there's a lot of weeds or other things that they can potentially get caught in.

Absolutely beautiful video once again! Those huge browns are absolutely EPIC! The size, perfection, red adipose fins, location, behavior, difficulty level, teamwork, setting, film quality, etc. I could go on. If I'm honest with myself, I think I most likely would have spooked them all. These videos definitely help me improve my tactics, patience, and skills. Thank you both! I will add that the ONLY thing I don't like about the Helios 3F is the bright white section (I know it is available in olive now, but my wife purchased the rod God bless her!). I tend to wear and use very muted natural colors with no reflection. If I wear a license, it is on my back. What "learned me" is that I am BLESSED to have known well and have the "Oz", Ozzie Ozefovich in our local Trout Unlimited chapter. His Underwater World of Trout videos are terrific! His videos are a must for any serious angler. Oz has some great stories too.

Lots of experience behind it all now but what we love is nothing is absolute. So... we all just have a go... try.... our way. If something we or you share works and we can adopt it into how we do things.... that's the win 😊 thanks for stopping in once more. Oh, and the helios. Yup. Certainly did what the marketing team hoped for. You'll notice many companies have brought silver and light greys into their labeling since. An interesting effort. Love the green in it 😊

Hi and great to hear - thank you for sharing. 😊 honestly I'm not fussy and can turn anything over by adjust the cast so it's just a 9' 2x leader with usually 5 or 6' of 3x then 18" lengths if I need to step down. It's all in the pause and 1 & 9 casting tho. Cheers!

Fly fishing for trout is a gut wrenching maddening process that any sane person should avoid. Trout drive you crazy by swimming by a perfectly good dry fly, nymph, caddis, or what ever you use with an excellent presentation that would make anyone proud holding a fly rod in their hands. But comes that time when they take it and especially to see them rise and take a dry floating along is that moment that makes it all worth while and you feel that ultimate high and after the trout's release back into the water is the thought of the next one.
@jensenflyfishing3 жыл бұрын

Hi, i lern so much with your videos. Why you dont use new zealand indicators? they spook? or just prefer dry-nimph set ups. Thanks
@jensenflyfishing3 жыл бұрын
We do on occasion use the NZ strike Indicator in some waters but not too often in these particular waters for these fish. These fish see absolutely everything and as we talk about it's often a game of leading the fish with a naked nymph and intercepting it on its route of travel. If we decide to use any indicator in these kind of flat, gin clear water it's typically a smaller, low profile very natural looking dry fly that lands as gently as possible and we know might have as good a chance of being eaten as the nymph.

We don't do anything special, just a 9' 2X leader with 4 - 5 ft of 3X added on. What's important is to make sure you have line speed into your back cast and a deliberate pause to get the leader to turn over.

Great work, learning a lot from you guys. One comment: love piano music with cruising trout. One question: a few times I've heard Dave say he's surprised he didn't break his Helios. I have a Helios 3d that I love and find very durable. A fb friend of mine broke his, talked about it in a trout group, and another guy chimed in saying they're brittle, apparently he broke his. Just wondering what your experience is? I caught a lot of trout on mine last year, not to mention all the times I've ram-rodded it around without a problem. I told him to bring his over and I would show him how to catch fish on it instead of breaking it. Lol!!!!😂
@jensenflyfishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi and great to hear from you. Loved filming that brown. No better moment in life. Live for that. ♥️🤯 About the H3 rod. For us the 3 is the hand's down toughest of the Helios line. The original was really good and the mid flex was great to our casting. We broke it annually but always our fault. We never fully connected to the H2. It was the start of something amazing but just didn't have the short line touch and we did break them. The H3 we've driven into soooooo many trees and willows on hook sets. In some recent vids you can hear me thwack trees on the hookset. We had the third prototype of the H3 line and just broke it this year because we were bushed out going up slope and I stepped on the rod tip. Otherwise we can only speak from our experiences that of all the rods we've owned to date the H3 is by far the toughest - an amazing feat given how light it is and how wonderful it casts. Yes, we're Orvis ambassadors. Full stop. But if you ask us your thoughts on your purposes or our experiences we'll share. We also know there's a new fun line arriving at our door soon too so you'll see that soon! 😊🍻
