I had to take a step back myself... It resulted in being even more of a hermit 😂 Had other things happen, so I was home more than I thought I would be, even vaccinated since Delta is bad where I am and not really any beds available in hospitals. Since there wasn't a vaccine for the public after the first year or so, I had to be realistic about everything. Even if I was the most careful I could be, I could still get it. Plus, I have chronic illnesses and no energy, so I'll do some important cleaning and leave the rest. Screw it. I could've had it and not known. It's all so scary yet bizarre 😬

My house is nowhere near as cluttered as some of the houses on this show, but watching this gives me motivation to declutter and to clean to keep my house from getting that bad, yet if I watch hoarders I get unmotivated bc I'm like well mine isn't that bad and I think hearing them justify keeping things makes me go into that type of mental state where I start looking at things thinking about what if, or saving it for someday (as long as it isn't straight trash) I think k the difference is truly the home owners willingness to clean that it either motivates me to clean more or it motivates me to save more. I watch this show to help give me motivation to do the dishes or laundry ect. I'm working on decluttering my entire house and while mine is not like either of these it's not so nice and easy to keep tidy as the ocd cleaners homes either when their home is what I'm striving for. It's good motivation for me honestly. I'll put on a speaker and listen while cleaning.

I wouldn't use an OCD clean home as a goal because even they say it robs them of having a life. And they refer to them as showrooms, which means they don't settle in to a chair a enjoy a book or mess up the kitchen trying out a new recipe, and they say even their kids suffer from not being able to do normal kid stuff. If the bathrooms, kitchen counter and sink are clean enough, that's major. I saw one woman lick the rim of her toilet bowl to show how confident she was that it was anticeptically clean. That's way over the top. All of us need a bit of germs in our lives, especially kids, to build immunity. There's a happy medium when it comes to cleaning, a point of balance, yes?

I too watch this show as a form of cleaning motivation but I also get motivated by hoarders. Seeing a hoard makes me want to clean as I think I will NEVER let my home get that bad! I have a showhome status home on Sundays after cleaning because I like to start my week will an immaculate home. It makes me feel prepared and I only have to tidy bits and bobs throughout the week. I don't clean for 6 hours a day though that's madness to me.

Wondering how many producers had to chat with Amanda about clearing out..😬 We would've had a row for sure. Cheyza saying she could've been home with her kids just about made me cry, and I feel that that drove the point home. It's not just about volunteering to help clean and declutter. Someone is entering your life to help you with your life, literally as you live it at home. It's like ok, either move into somewhere larger and not buy anything (which obviously is not a choice for anyone really lol) or see what isn't contributing to your happiness, whether it's helpful or not..useful or not..needed it not..enjoyed or not. I'm befuddled at how much really is just trash or left, only to be donated. Once I heard about "blessing" someone else with my items, or even just keeping certain collections to display proudly and nixing the rest (part of Konmari), it all became about personality. What is meaningful to you? Dusty things or what is on for show that brings you joy and would love to speak about? It's also about respecting your items and yourself. You must take care of yourself and your things. No one wants a colony of spiders or roaches or even dust to sneeze at later on that is just collecting on their things. There's weird diseases and infections that can start, so why bother giving it a chance? I'm feeling passionate lol!

Amanda wasn't ready to participate in this project. She clearly was still in denial about her situation, she said out loud that she would just continue to live in her house the way it was if it wasn't for other people telling her to clean it up. I felt so bad for Cheyza because she was put with her back against the wall in this situation, making her feel so helpless. Amanda is highly likely to fall back into old patterns unless she goes into proper treatment tbh.

In Season 1 Episode 2, a woman living in a cluttered, filthy home tells the young man with OCD that she sees a lot of similarities between them. He says he's nothing like her. But in fact, people with OCD and people who hoard both suffer from an inability to tolerate anxiety. That's true of any phobia - you're placed in a certain situation and you have such a low tolerance for anxiety, you feel compelled to do (or not do) something. Both types of people also have control issues. OCD is about trying to control your environment to the point where you believe nothing can harm you as long as you're vigilant. Extreme clutter is the result of self-soothing by buying stuff, but also about feeling you no longer have control (of your life, as well as your living space) because you've given your power over to objects. Oddly enough, like OCD, extreme clutter also can result from perfectionism or an all-or-nothing attitude. People with a lot of clutter may spend too much time and energy on one little project and then develop an aversion to doing more because that one thing was so exhausting. Now they have a negative association with cleaning. I also think there's a tipping point past which it becomes almost impossible to clear out stuff on your own. Even people who aren't chronically disorganized have probably had the experience of having the best intentions of clearing out a space only to discover that if they move this one thing, then they have to move something else, which needs to be put somewhere, but there's nowhere to put it or you have to lift it over a bunch of other stuff and you're not able to do that by yourself. That's why it can be a blessing to have someone who isn't emotionally attached to any of your stuff and who has a systematic way of doing things come in and physically help you. I think most of the homes we're seeing are well past the point of one person being able to clear them out without that person becoming frustrated, befuddled and overwhelmed.

Two sayings that help me when I feel paralyzed by the mess, especially after being isolated for almost two years during this pandemic because I have health issues, including my heart (and having a cluttered, dirty home sure isn't good for your health, either) -- One saying is, "Clutter is the result of delayed decisions." Think about what the words "I'll leave this here just for now" result in. Worst case for me is that I have 8 boxes in my bedroom that I left there "just for now" when I moved into this apartment more than 15 years ago! It's kind of funny, now that I have the time and motivation (thanks to these videos) that I'm looking forward to seeing what the heck is in them. I feel like I'm about to embark on an archaeological dig! I suspect my long lost birth certificate is in one of them. The second saying is, "That which gets scheduled, gets done." What this entails, though, is making a plan. Maybe picking one project per room and breaking it down into scheduled times to accomplish a bit of each one. My problem is that I get overwhelmed just by the planning stage. For one thing, I have ADHD. I take medication, but ADHD issues include some brain-based shortcomings when it comes to "administrative functions" - such as time management and organization. So, the simpler the plan and the smaller the bites out of the projects, the less anxiety-producing it is to tackle a space. Probably true whether you have ADHD or not. I'm going to continue to watch these episodes because they help remind me of why a clean, uncluttered space is good for one's health and one's mind. I don't foresee me ever developing OCD though!!!
@rite2bcreative

These are so good! One of mine is "don't put it down, put it away". I'm still working on it, but it's really helped me realize that if I put something down instead of putting it away, it's just adding to the mess that I'll have to deal with later. I've also made it a habit to clean once a week while watching these videos. My place still gets messier than I would like to admit, but coming to terms with it at least once a week and at least doing SOME cleaning, has really helped from letting it get too bad. The thing that helps me the most though, is inviting someone over every once in awhile. I can ignore the mess and be fine with it, but I'll clean better in the hour or two before someone comes over than I will in a month of just keeping it clean enough for myself 😬
@HTNPSullivan
@HTNPSullivan 2 жыл бұрын
@@rite2bcreative I like that saying, Don't put it down, put it away. But where many of us started to get in trouble in the first place is not designating where things go. And if you've been shopping too much, there may not be room to put something where it should go. That's why tidy people also say, A place for everything, and everything in its place. I also developed a habit of checking what's around me when I get up to go in a different room and grabbing stuff to throw away or put back. And yes, knowing someone is coming into my apartment to help me with something does push me to do serious decluttering, like you said, but for me it would be a few days, not hours, of cleaning.

I don’t know how that’s possible unless you have a really small place. 30mins to an hour isn’t enough to Hoover every day, do laundry, dust, dishes, scrub bathtubs, toilets, showers, etc. people do this as a full time, paid job, 8hrs cleaning everyday, come back the next day and start all over again.

It is extremely difficult for the hoarder to let go of items. The attachment to items is like an invisible string connected to the objects. The brain pulls the objects toward the hoarder creating an extra limb. When the cleaner wants to "help" the hoarder clean or shift the items, the hoarder cannot make a decision to clear it out because they feel like it is part of them. And the longer the item has been in the room, the stronger the link is to the brain. There is also a memory issue when the items aren't able to be seen or found. Hence, the hoarder tends to buy the same items again.

Very true! As someone with OCD, I've learned that symptoms vary in everybody, and sometimes certain things are overlooked. For example, before while my OCD was really bad, I was easily washing my hands 60+ times a day as well and constantly changing outfits because "my clothes were dirty; they went outside and people outside may have covid, and that's dirty," but I don't obsessively clean other parts of my house or worry about the same things these people do

People these days wring their hands over climate change but buy clothes and clothes and clothes and beauty supplies and beauty supplies and more junk that trashes the planet. SMH. There are people who need clothes but they're all stashed away in people's houses who don't need clothes a thousand items ago.

the cleaners are almost always LESS judgemental and more willing to help than the hoarders. The hoarders are consistently judgemental and arrogant. I just don't understand the choices. Let them live in squalor if they are going to be jerks

This program should have made a "Special COVID" episode so we could see how they adjust to national policies during the epidemic featuring Linda and Haley. 🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐🌐

Cleaning a oven is difficult being bent over with you head inside the chemicals are very harsh .. I only do mine twice a year. Haa Haa 🤣🤣PUT IT IN THE BAG It reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger. There is sentimental and there is mental.

OCD, there are two ends. Hordes and compulsive cleaners…. Each one does not allow a normal life. Much love to both

Amanda is not ungrateful. Her emotions got stirred up intensely and she was not able to let go and she doesn't understand Cheyza's deep desire to have things in order, beautiful and clean. All cleaning jobs were done very well! It's easy to judge, but do we stop to think that we might not be understanding the entire story-line?
