If you haven’t tried them already, I highly recommend X4 and Starsector. Completely single-player with enough depth to keep you busy Edit: Can’t believe I forgot to mention Delta [Note: the title uses the mathematical symbol and not the word] V: The rings of Saturn.

Exact opposite for me. The empty "sandbox" games are just that, empty. For some reason they're almost always single player. What's worse than being in a boring empty game? Being in a boring empty game by yourself.

@@slaphead90 That's objectively untrue because in multiplayer games the multiplayer IS the content. Multiplayer with good progression loops will always be better than single player. They have constant revenue stream and staying power. Something single player games don't have outside of a tiny handful of outliers.

I’m done with Star Wars style space dogfighting games. I’d love it if someone made first person perspective space sim with full orbital physics implementation, that would make combat more like how it’s portrayed in The Expanse

Never got into them myself, precisely because of the lack of realistic flight. Have you looked at Flight of Nova? More of a space trucker, but scratches the itch, it has demo too!

@@UkDave3856 We need a new word for it though, since with space games "Newtonian" implies accurate physics but only within a static freefall frame of reference, like what you might experience floating out by the asteroid belt - once you wrap your head around no-friction and no-up it's pretty straightforward (literally). Accurate orbital mechanics are a WHOLE different beast and will break your brain.

I don't want to be impolite here, because obviously this isn't your fault, but I'd be curious to know out of all the "upcoming" games you've previewed over the last two or three years have actually been released? I'm still waiting for Falling Frontier, originally to be released at the end of '22, and then '23, and then '24, and now simply coming soon - a perfect example of total vapourware. I think a lot of devs in this space really need to think about when they announce a game. Getting people excited about a game only works if that game is two or three months from release. Any longer then people will forget about it, and when released, if it ever is, it'll meet very poor sales.

Verse Project had me hooked... right up until it emerged that it's a multiplayer game. Rats. Maybe there will be a single-player mode? Or perhaps with the game being a scale solar system there will be ample space in which to operate effectively as a 'lone wolf'. The Alters looks intriguing, too.

I'm laughing your comment, not because I want to be disparaging, but only because I'm fully aware that devs are simply not interested in VR anymore. I'm sure you've heard of these, but I'm going to list them anyway - House of the Dying Sun, Rogue Stargun, Lunar Flight, Battlegroup VR, and if you can deal with pure atmospheric flight then VTOL VR is probably the best VR game in existence.

@@slaphead90 VR used to cost an arm and a leg. Hence the low interest in a small market, but the newer ones are becoming more reasonable in price so I'd say give it 5 years and every other game will have VR support.

@@Bruh-zx2mc i can’t speak to gameplay but so far I’ve seen: a brand new game engine, a new physics engine, scalable universal gridding and a new building system. Volumetric flowing water on planets and of course it will be multiplayer. I haven’t seen any discussions on PvE or challenges, etc. yet so I’ve no idea what that will look like. Very early days still.

I love building in games but the one in the first game was so annoying as you were constantly attacked. If there was a way to disable that I never found it.

I hope I wont forget the stream from Space Engineers and I will ask them: Will there be actual content in the game, that matters? Space Engineers, while having fun building, is not a game imo. It is just a tech demo. The trailers, while looking cool, was nothing different than the first one. We want actual gameplay and not another space demo.

The single, shared universe in shared Verse Project is a _massive_ red flag. Unless the player base is going to be like 200 concurrent players, a modern space game will it be unable to pull this off without massive restrictions (like restricting who can go where due to where other players are located) and enormous costs on the backend. This will be so easy to break if they attempt to release the game with a single shared universe.

Verse project looks to be promising way too much. Another money maker that never produces anything but a series of minimally playable demos? One massive universe with no loading screens? We need games that focus on ground combat, space combat and community created stories that is all played in multiplayer. When is this game going to come out? And no, I don't mean Star Citizen I mean a real game. Not a tech demo designed to sell ship PNGs and engine licensing.
