That was a lot of shells on the beach. You found some good ones. I see Alex is a good enough driver now that you can sit in the back seat.

Haha Rande! I made those clips very quick on purpose so as not to "highlight" my incredibly questionable parenting decision.

A nice day of Father & Sons Shelling, Randy. Those shells are great, ground up and sprinkled in the garden too. Do you see a lot of seaweed washed up on shore? We need to plan an OBX trip ourselves soon.

That was a really nice day of shelling. Some rare finds indeed. What are the odds? Beautiful beach to my friend. Great when you find 0 trash.

Thank you Titus! Any time I can spend time on the beach with my kids is a great day already, but to find some cool shells and NO trash was just icing on the cake!

As far as shell ID I'm learning from your video's, Y'all know so much more than I do..lol..Looks like y'all had a great time out there and it's great to see the boys get so excited. I can't wait to take mine back down and do some shelling/ sand dollar hunting, they get the biggest kick out of it..lol..I hope y'all are having a great week!!
@fatherandsonsfishing2 жыл бұрын
Kids love sand dollars! I just wish we could find up more our way. They're definitely more abundant down in your parts. Glad we can help a little with the shell ID, but I still don't know what we're doing. I gotta say, though, shelling has become a fun winter/off-season activity. It kind of scratches the same itch as fishing, and is literally the same thing as shed hunting, and hopefully we'll continue to learn more as we go along! Have a great week, brother!

Shelling is a lot like fishing (and many other things in life): Sometimes it's really good and sometimes it isn't. This was a short trip but it was fun and productive. Finding a beautiful and intact Scotch Bonnet AND a rare Helmet Shell capped off another fun beachcombing adventure!
@bucktalesoutdoors75662 жыл бұрын
Some pretty good finds guys, I like that 100% intact Scotch Bonnet and the grey Helmet Shell, I think that was the first one I’ve seen Fun times just combing the beach. I think Ryan has a pretty sharp eye for shelling. No trash ? That is awesome. Tell Alex I am impressed with his Piano playing and his song producing skills, that was a great song for a first time effort. Good job buddy ! Peace out Y’ll.
@fatherandsonsfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Don! Not that we find tons of trash ever on these beaches, but unfortunately there is usually SOMETHING we pick up and throw in the back of the truck. Very happy to not see anything this time. Ryan is definitely my sheller. Alex enjoys it but isn't into it on the same level. I really appreciate you watching and commenting (here) on Alex's videos. It always makes his day to hear the comments you leave. And I gotta say, I was pretty impressed by his song. You know how it is with a young kid... you want to be positive and encouraging no matter what they do, but I am legit impressed with and proud of him!

@@fatherandsonsfishing I was also legitimately impressed . You’ve got a couple of great kids Randy and definitely should be proud of both of them, as I know you are. ✌️

Some great finds! I’m still learning (from your videos) the names of the shells. I’ve only been to the beach a handful of times in my life and have always saw more people than shells. I must’ve went to the wrong beach! 😂 If you ever get permission to hunt, you’ll already have the perfect shirt 😜
@fatherandsonsfishing2 жыл бұрын
If you went to any of the beaches folks around here go, then the beach : shell ratio was definitely not very favorable! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but my ideal beach is one where you can look and hardly see another person for miles. Kind of like the beach equivalent of your farm -- that's my cup of tea. And in terms of the shirt, I figure the more hunting attire I accumulate, I'll HAVE to be granted permission to hunt...💁♂️😎

Nice finds, my daughter and me found a perfect scotch bonnet but that was a trip to Portsmouth island we took while vacationing. I think we need to shell hunt during the off season to find more shells in the Buxton area. Cool videos!
@fatherandsonsfishing2 жыл бұрын
The off season is definitely the time to go -- fewer people and generally more storms to churn up the shells and wash them ashore. Good luck!

Some very nice finds! The lemon yellow Scotch bonnet was stunning! The Helmet shell Ryan found was awesome too, they are so much harder to find than bonnets in the outer banks area. I'm not sure if I've asked you before, but have you ever found a larger intact Channeled whelk on those beaches? I saw so many broken ones but only lucked up on one small intact one. They are way harder to find than perfect bonnets or helmets in my experience. Happy shelling & fishing!
@fatherandsonsfishing2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No, we have not found a larger intact Channeled Whelk. We have found a medium-ish one that was almost intact and to this day that's one of our best finds. I'll probably post it next week, but I had a shelling trip in Frisco in March that was one of the most epic shelling trips that I've had. Multiple intact Knobbed, Kiener, Lightning Whelks (and an ultra-rare shell I didn't even know made it as far north as NC), but all I found was broken Channeled whelk after broken Channeled whelk. Whelp!
