Thanks Nick! I'd read (listened to) the book awhile ago but your presentation of these quotes has reinvigorated by interest in reading it again. This book should be read by every single OCD sufferer!

Ok I have a general question about ocd. Can ocd make you feel like you have other different types of ocd? For example I usually struggle with harm ocd or false memory ocd so it’s mostly just me thinking I have harmed someone in the past but now my brain is making think “ oh well what if you develop other types of ocd like somatic ocd” and i started being really anxious and I started overthinking like oh what if I do have somatic ocd so I was anxious all day yesterday but then I was able to calm myself down and accept it bc that’s never really been a fear of mine and now I’m fine because I have been learning and practicing about acceptance and really accepting myself and basically anything that comes my way since September of last year so is it possible that this was just a minor ocd setback? I’m genuinely curious about this because ocd can make things really tricky and make you believe things that aren’t true

@@axonhealth thank you for your reply. I’m going to keep on working on recovery and acceptance by myself using the resources you mentioned as I cannot afford a therapist.

Just to echo what you said. If your therapist/counselor/psychologist/psychiatrist wants to spend sessions digging into the source or meaning of OCD thoughts/beliefs/compulsions/rituals seek out someone else! This approach will not move you towards recovery. This approach will keep you helpless and hopeless.

Please help, what do you recommend for a 19 year old struggling with ocd in college to do??? I’m freaking out I don’t want to be Like this anymore and school is about to start and I don’t even have a job. My parents will not understand what ocd is or even how to help me. Please respond I need your help, is it possible for me to find an affordable therapist that I can pay for? Or do you think it is possible for me to manage this on my own??

Hey Emily. To start I am sorry you're struggling. The best thing you might do for yourself is checking out the resources tab at www.ocdrecovery.com. Educating yourself about this disorder is key. I was exactly where you were, and still can be at times. There is this KZbin channel, the free facebook group, the reading list, OCD Recoveries group webinars and more!
