Six Seals Rescued From Horrible Entanglement

The rescuers from OCN did so many seal rescues in this run - they had to go back to the video footage afterwards to check the total number: six. Most of the seals were already deeply cut by packing strap or fishing line, without any chance to escape the ocean rubbish on their own.
Cape Cross is often home to ten thousands of seals, and as they start moving around to escape the rescuers, we can often identify entangled seals we have not been able to spot initially. Many more rescues were done on that record breaking day. Our personal achievement is overshadowed by the knowledge that seal rescues are necessary and that many many other animals do not get the help they need for a situation they did not cause or deserve. 🦭

It still amazes me how coordinated each rescue happens. Eight hands grabbing seal ,net, tools and line with very little verbal communication between the guys. They are like an octopus with the way they coordinate those eight hands. Well done gentlemen! 🦭🌊💙

What a day at the office!!! It's certainly reflected in Naude's heavy breathing! The damage those single-lines are so horrible!!! Death By 1,000 Cuts! Fantastic coordination for all the rescues. Cape Cross is definitely worse than Pelican Point for entanglements right now. I'm glad when you are rescuing in this area, where there are not so many rocks to fall over and slip on.👍👏

Crying SO for that last pup!! This was a very fast paced video!!! I almost did not know where to look?? STILL amazed at how you spot them in the crowd, R&R, (while scanning for others!!) and then the bit where you recoup, check tool whereabouts (as they must be on hand/ready for the next seal) it wore me out watching you all!!! Being a conservationist do you know how all these lines get in the ocean? I seen on a commercial that not all recycling gets recycled. Which prompted a garbage in the ocean search. I was shocked at how much is in the ocean. It's shocking. Thank you for caring about these poor animals. God bless.
