8 Entangled Seals In One Group, 7 Rescued

This is next-level madness. The rescuers initially target one entangled seal, but as they go along, they spot a total of 8 seals with different types of entanglement around their necks, and one of them sadly gets away without help (at least today). Wherever they look, they spot another victim. They work extremely fast, they need their rescue equipment to be readily available for the next target. It gets so bad, they only realize afterwards how many seals they have rescued in just a couple of minutes.
All seals are caught in different types of entanglement, we cannot assume that they all visited the same part of the ocean, we have to assume that the ocean floor is starting to look like a real rubbish dumpster. There seems to be little hope to escape. Ocean rubbish is everywhere, and even the relentless efforts from the OCN rescue team are just a drop in the bucket.
If we want to create a safe environment for our marine animals, we will all have to change our behavior and no longer enable industries that are largely responsible for this. 🦭

It fascinates me that there can be so much pollution in such a low populated country with a low traffic of boats and ships, yet the seals are heavily affected . The sea floor must look like a junk yard. Thanks to all of you guys who give so much of your time to do so much good for all those creatures. Blessing to you . This day was like a microcosm of the entire rescue season, with most of the usual suspects: recreational line, snoek line, packing strap, piece of glove, and a band from a hat. Just lacking a hook with a massive weight dangling from it, and 2 seals tied together with line...very thankful you didn't see those as well! Nicely done, guys! Rarely do we see a serious snippet of your day quite like this. It shows how necessary it is for you all to keep yourselves in great shape, hydrated, and able to work quickly and well together. And even with all of that, the occasional lost chance (hopefully you all find him again, Tony). I daresay very few in my country could do what your team does, day after day after endless day. And so all I can say is THANK YOU for doing the work of which so many more of us on this planet should be made aware. Too many live with blinders on to the damage we do to our beautiful, fragile ecosphere. We fail to acknowledge that nature is fighting back with worse weather and fewer resources to sustain us all. Your team are one of the few incredible, heroic examples of humanity doing its best. Would that we all lived up to that standard.

I cannot sleep if I don't see your wonderful work, knowing the difference you are making for your community of seals.I don't know if anyone is doing this in Oz but living in a tourist coastal area, we sure need it. I was sad today thinking about how selfish humans are when it comes to discarding plastics haphazardly. If ever you think your work is all in vain, take a breath, I promise you it’s not. 🌺🙏🏻💕💕💕 when I first saw entangled seals, they were from the US. People weren’t allowed to intervene. I was angry and I started looking to see if anyone was doing anything to save them. I guess we have trained people who rescue seals too. (Although I’ve never seen a video) During this time, the internet brought me to your videos. I have so much admiration for your team. I look forward to your videos. I know it’s not much, but I’m more conscious of what goes into the trash. Each one of you is a hero! Including those we don’t see on film. Thank you OCN, my heart is full.
