It is never mentioned in any texts I found. - The Red Khezu Hypothesis. All we get in the lore is "we call Red Khezu a subspecies, but who knows maybe the whites are just albinos? hohohoho how mysterious :3" - White Khezu being sensitive to sunlight. I needed to somehow justify as to HOW the Guild ever even conceived the idea of albinism in the White Khezu, and photosensitivity is the easiest symptom to observe.

just to add onto this, whenever khezu uses its electricity, you can notice that it's tail widens and attaches to the ground. this is to protect itself from electrocution via grounding itself with it's tail.

That would mean if you could cut the tail off, you could make a khezu become self destructive with its thunder
@satyreblack
@satyreblack Жыл бұрын
@@rexex345 i think in monster hunter frontiers that was actually a mechanic...you couldn't cut off the tail but you could disconnect the tail from the ground stunning the khezu if I remember rightly. Mind you when you hit the tail your weapon would bounce off very easily as it had very high hardness.

This is by far my favourite episode of your new series, for now at least. Something you didn't mention in the albino hypothesis is the fact that due to khezu predominantly reproducing asexually (technically quasi-asexually) through whelps, their gene pool is quite narrow. This could help explain how a lone random mutation led to the high number of white khezu. KhezuNation/10

I love the creative explanation for how the term "subspecies" came to be used to describe monsters that are distinctly _not_ subspecies by any scientific classification, mostly because that's basically what happens in reality. Palette swaps are created by the devs and then they're just called subspecies because that's what we all know them as (even if that wasn't technically their intention way back in the day.) Your work does such a good job of immersing me that I legitimately almost looked up "What the Farcaster" with the intention of reading it.

Awesome and interesting video. Of all colors, red has the largest wavelength. When light travels deeper through water, red is the first color to be absorbed and therefore invisible. I think it wouldn't be a stretch by MH standards to apply that concept to a humid cave environment. If that were the case, red khezu's color might actually help it camouflage in deeper caves that red light cannot penetrate. It would also make sense for white khezu to lose the red as to not stand out in an open environment.

It is now my headcanon that there is a version of this dude in universe doing basically this: compiling all the information about monsters that he can get his hands on into an easily digestible medium for the curious. Might be a bridge between the guild and the common people, as apparently the Hunters Guild is seen as madmen by most people who are not in it.

One thing that I find interesting is how when spiking the electricity on their skin up, the Khezu grounds itself using the tail, so the eletricity runs through the moist skin but doesn't harm the internal organs. Also, since the Khezu appears to be related to the Gigginox, that suction cup at the end of its tail is probably the cloaca, which moved towards the tip of the tail and became versatile to the point of being able to hold the creature's weight and even bite.

I feel like with a lot of monster hunter subspecies their rarity and strength can be used to explain each other. Being stronger requires more energy for upkeep, thus limiting animals compared to their slightly weaker relatives. After all, Red Khezu may be stronger and better at hunting than reg Khezu, but I imagine the need to hunt more is still enough of a drawback that the cavers have an easier time surviving. After all, there is no such thing as a "more evolved" animal, and seemingly useless and weak animals tend to be more successful (as evidenced by Popo being found all over the Monster Hunter world, while the presumably related Gammoth is ludicrously rare)
