The views of Diavolo being the confident and protective side of doppio in this video is interesting seeing that everytime Diavolo is in a fight, including the final one, he tries to run away when presented with resistance like a coward, contrasted with Doppio who would rather lose a limb or sacrifice himself rather than run away as we see in the metalica fight, and thats not even mentioning Doppio's sailor mouth and his outbursts of rage compared to the more calm and calculating diavolo
@alexandercastro-vera86415 жыл бұрын
Something that supports this is King Crimson’s main ability. King crimson is a violent stand that exudes so much physical power that it’s not impossible that if it and Star Platinum were to go for an all or nothing one punch duel, that King crimson would win. But the moment Diavolo is threatened, he jumps forwards in Time by sacrificing all that power. It’s a stand that screams and rages but as soon as it hits any form of resistance; no matter how slight, it runs.

[Spoilers, obvs] Something this recontextualizes, and makes all the more depressing... is Vinegar Doppio's death during the Silver Chariot Requiem Arc. Think about it. Diavolo was always Doppio's defense mechanism, according to your posit. Whenever he needed help with a situation, if he felt he was in danger, his boss was always a phone call away. Someone who could calmly address the situation, helping Doppio as he needs it, and finding the best course of action to get out of a situation unscathed. But then, in his most critical moment, Doppio's defense mechanism assessed the situation and realized he would be better off without Doppio. The one thing he trusted the most betrayed him without mercy, and he doesn't even realize it. He spends his last moments calling out for his boss, the one thing he knows can always help him. Which, ultimately, is what kills him. It only leaves behind the monster he manifested. How incredibly poetic it is that in end, the boss ends up being a traitor, just like the people he's fighting.
@travismalarkey36685 жыл бұрын
At least Doppio got to live his last moments free of his unstable monstrous personality that has controlled him for so long. Doppio got to be his own person now, if only for a few sad, short moments. It’s an act of kindness and mercy by fate compared to what Diavolo ended up getting in the end.

Pretty interesting how Diavolo's own "luck" backfired on him. He finds the magic stand arrows and sells them and gains a fortune. How lucky. Except........... The old lady you sold it to has a son, who gains a stand thanks to this and kills/rapes Polnareff's sister who joins the crusaders because of this later. The arrows find Dio who awakens his stand, and with that Giorno's Josuke's and Jotaro's Jotaro and Polnareff gain stand battle experience and knowledge of the arrows and Polnareff eventually finds Diavolo, but fate have yet to catch up to Diavolo. Except.... Because of this Polnareff finds out about the Requiem arrow's power. Meanwhile, Joutaro finishes his business in Morioh and send Koichi to find Giorno which helps Giorno learn more about the stands and the arrows and determines that they have to find the boss pronto. At this point the death flags all converge on Diavolo. He tries to kill Polnareff but fails because of the knowledge he accidentally let him learn, gets cornered by a kid whose power comes from the arrows he sold and the daughter he took his sweet ass time to kill and gets deathlooped by the combination of the three. In reality the man thinking he is blessed by fate was the most hated by it, only fate gave him the long and quietly creeping end he feared the most rather than a merciful and fast one.

I don't remember how old he is but if he was a teenager or young adult around his daughters conception then he would be about the same age as Jean or Jotaro. Gio and Trish are the same age, Gio's conception was before Dio fought Jotaro, Dio had been among the living with a stand for over a year if I remember correctly. Meaning that he would have had to find the arrows, gain a stand, and sell them before Trish was concepted which doesn't make since. Diavolo couldn't have sold the arrow that gave Dio his stand which gave the Joestars a stand. And Jean's sister died years before part 3, so Diavolo couldn't have created The Hanged Man. I get what your saying and it would be cool, but as far as I get it the timeline doesn't make since, but I could be very wrong here I don't remember how old he is, if he's in his mid 40's or older then it could, but I think he's in his 30's.

Yeah. I heard from analysis video about how Diavolo is probably the most human main antagonist in Jojo. Yes, even more human than Kira. I can understand why. I mean, how many of us want to be and/or believe we are in control of our lives? We get super anxious about our future and secretive about the things we have done in our past. We get very desperate and aggressive when we get stuck in a pit of horrible events and want to climb back out into the safety of our lives again. I believe what Diavolo represents is the idea that you should not try to play with forces that are out of your control (Like other people, their actions, feelings, etc). In doing so, leads to a life of misery, paranoia, violence, loneliness, and insanity. Rather, savor what you can control, which is yourself (Your actions, your emotions, your ideals, etc). Prepare for events the best you can and let life play out naturally, and it will all work out in the end. To quote Roz Doyle from Frasier, "Even though things may not happen like we planned, they can work out anyway."

I've always subscribed to the idea of Doppio being the main (original) personality. It just makes so much more sense that, in addition to everything you've mentioned in this video, the original personality is almost always unaware of their condition while the other personality/ies are. Diavolo knows he and Doppio are the same person; that's why he's so careful about instructing him and talking to him, framing it in a narrative about Doppio being his "most trusted subordinate."

Really appreciate the disclaimer at around 6:00 as while I love JoJo and like Diavolo as a character, media is oftentimes the primary way people get exposed to different kinds of mental illnesses. I always thought that Diavolo had suffered mental problems since birth (assuming that story about his mother being pregnant for 2 years is correct; he'd be a little overcooked), and that resulted in him having a two-faced personality. Then, upon obtaining King Crimson, the schism in his mind deepened and eventually fractured into two entirely distinct personalities: Diavolo and Doppio, the former becoming the dominant personality. It can also be speculated that, in some truly _bizarre_ ways, King Crimson *is* Diavolo.

The church's infamous reputation for molesting young boys is a very interesting notion here: Doppio intended to be a man of the Lord, and dedicated himself to it. My headcanon is that Diavolo became a defense mechanism for Doppio if maybe he experienced sexual abuse in his youth. The fact that Diavolo hates having a daughter and regrets that stage of his life would make a lot of sense from this pov. The fact that Diavolo's theme (Not Doppio's) has church organs in it would also support this. In his theme, church organs are meant to give a sense of grandiosity, terror, hopelessness and complete dominance. This could mean that Diavolo associates the church with violence and unwavering control. Diavolo sought this kind of power through his stand. He might also be very paranoid due to the fact that he could've felt betrayed by the church. Religion is supposed to help you improve as a person. Doppio and Diavolo being go-getters and wanting absolute power could be his way of keeping sane, kind of a way to say: "No one can hurt me now. I'm in charge of my life now." His fight with Bucciarati even hints at this; "I won't allow anyone to threaten my throne." It could very well be that being a major drug dealer and mob boss gives him A MAJOR ego boost and sense of safety.
@bigdaddyyodeltm77725 жыл бұрын
On top of being my absolute favourite villain in all of JoJo and fiction, upon further inspection, you also begin to realize just how much religious symbolism is in Vento Aureo and in Diavolo's birth, which is reminiscent to the birth of Jesus Christ, ironic for someone who goes by the epithet of the Devil and believes themselves to be the only one worthy of the Arrow and favoured by Fate. Amusingly, Doppio is also the literal analogy for schizophrenia, which is why is based off the song 21st Century Schizoid Man. Great video.

That's because Doppio is sorta analogous to the Anti-Christ. A human who becomes inhabited by the Devil himself, or possibly always was the Devil (sorta like how Diavolo is both a seperate entity and the same person as Doppio). The whole part has slight analogies to mostly Revelations, with a few callbacks to Jesus' time. Obviously Giorno is the son of "God" (And his name is in reference to the Sun [as in "son"] if I remember correctly) and Bruno's ressurection from Giorno's power is an obvious reference. But going back to Diavolo, he is someone who fears his fate (as the Devil is fated to lose, die, and be sent into the lake of fire to die for all eternity [or cease to exist, I don't know how it works]) Doesn't want people to know he exists and removes all his history ("the greatest lie the Devil ever told...") and Love is a foreign concept to him since he tried to kill Trish without a second thought among others in his life, much like the Devil who doesn't understand Love. And of course just like the Devil, Diavolo is fated to lose to Giorno who punishes him to die for all eternity. Also likewise in part 6 Pucci is analogous to the Prophet of the anti-christ, and is the bringer of the end of the world, and is one of the reasons for the "ressurection" of the anti-christ (Like the green baby in part 6). Something like that, I forget all the connections, and in that part Dio is the analogy for the anti-christ instead of Diavolo.

Hey, great video, I enjoyed it a lot! One thing I think you didn't quite nail that I'd like to hear your thoughts on, though: Doppio doesn't have a kind or gentle personality. He has an avoidant, disarming, and defensive one. He quickly becomes violent or loses his temper (well before he hits a "Diavolo switch") and even tells Diavolo to shut up. He seems nonconfrontational, which gives off the illusion of him being cute and kind, but really he is inclined to lash out at the slightest sign of hostility. Polnareff's speculation that he was abused might not be too far off... he shows a lot of stereotypical, exaggerated features common in abuse victims. If he was abused by someone, Epitaph might have less to do with him just being afraid of the future and more to do with trying to predict the future to tell when he is about to be harmed. It then makes sense that he would try to conceal his identity from Donatella because of fear, be it that he "isn't good enough" or that he's embarrassed of his past, etc. So he created stories and developed talents to impress people. Whether it is abuse-fuelled or not, Doppio has extremely severe anxiety and a fear of judgment. Let me know what you think!

An interesting way I like to interpret Diavolo's fate at the end of the part was that he is continuing to in fact, live his lie that he has created that he is in fact immortal. He never dies and he always enters a different "death" right before he actually dies. Golden Experience Requiem had made Diavolo's fantasy a reality. And now, "he will never reach the truth", and will continue to live forever in his own dillusion. I'm not the biggest fan of Golden Wind, but that's damn good writing

It would make sense for Doppio to be the original. For one, the way he was described as a kid is definitely Doppio. More importantly, he has dissociative identity disorder, and there are times when the host/original is completely unaware of the other alter(s).

Thing is though...Diavolo really ISN'T protective of Doppio. I mean, he was so long as he inhabited the same body, but during the Chariot Reqiuem arc, he really didn't give a crap when Doppio died. Despite being obscenely rich and the most powerful person in Italy, he only sleeps in hotel rooms and even there he wears a hood and hides under the table to ensure he's not seen. He doesn't enjoy any of the benefits of being a mafia-boss and it only makes him a target, the last thing he wants to be. His desires and his behaviour contradict themselves

I wouldn't mind seeing a spin off completely based on Doppio, his past and relationship (if you call it that) with Diavolo. Seeing his childhood, first "contact" from the Boss, his daily life and other things. It would be very interesing, a new spin on the "Jeckyl And Hyde" kind of story, when instead of terrorizing others, the Hyde of the story protects the Jeckyl. But the Boss is supposed to be a mysterios figure, so we will never get that. Bet Araki already forgot about him. Also more evidence on Doppio being the main personality: Epitaph can work well as a simple stand all alone, while King Crimson needs Epitaph to work in all it's potential. Also in the Chariot Requiem arc, Doppio gets transformed to Bucciarati's body, and vice versa, while Diavolo only gets to posess Thrish. If Diavolo were the main personality, I think he would have gone to Bucciarati's body instead. But hey, that's just a theory. A manga theory. Thanks for reading.

A theory I’ve had for a while is Doppio/Diavolo’s being due to a Stand Ability. From what we know about his birth, he was conceived in the span of a day, with his mom saying his father was long dead. So what if his father had a stand ability that allowed him to transfer his consciousness via his seed, which would have a time lock effect. So Diavolo would be the father using his son’s body. But that’s just me.

Hey guys just so you know, when someone has DID there is no such thing as the “original personality”. There’s a host, who fronts most often, but think about it like this: when you drop a plate and it shatters, which piece is the original? There is none, there’s just broken pieces.
@zenoblues77872 жыл бұрын
That's probably why Araki himself didn't lable either as the original. It's also likely the reason they are both two separate souls. They came from the original but are different parts of him. Both of them have names that don't make any logical sense one being literally called devil and the other double. Meeting his birth mother probably completely broke him and forced him to regress into his younger self and destroy the things that hurt him at the same time. The complete disconnect between both is probably the reason both personalities are extremely different.

Also I'm a year late, I want to add something. When Doppio changes to Diavolo, the fortune teller says that his physique changes from a young teen to a full grown adult. My hypothesis is that when Diavolo is in charge of the body, the way he stand and behavior changes into someone of that an adult. When they're communicating using various random objects, my hypothesis is that since sounds are perceived through our brain, Diavolo is talking to him through their minds since Doppio's mental health is already in disarray. Thus why they can communicate through random objects, Doppio "preceives" random objects as hidden phones laced through the world, Doppio also "perceives" talking to Diavolo is talking through the phone. Thus concludes my hypothesis...

as someone with DID that also has a headmate/alter named Diavolo, i enjoyed this video. for one, its nice that you actually know what youre talking about. people that make weird assumptions are tiring. i also think you really sum up how doppio's past links with diavolo's role really well in a way that lets me see it with a new perspective. my diavolo named herself after jojo's diavolo, but its mostly because she loves his aesthetic. while jojo's diavolo is about erasing their past, mine is about protecting innocence, though elaborating on this further would probably be upsetting for me. anyway, thanks for the video. it was wonderful
