Even with the European emissions restrictions, Mercedes and BMW were making turbocharged V-8 engines for fast cars. Dodge could've reduced the weight by making a smaller V-8 instead of abruptly leaving its customers with overpriced battery-electric cars. A lighter engine would also improve performance and cornering abilities.

Great report OCM. Very astute observations. I think they have several fires to put out. 1) Figure out what it will cost to unload the excess bloated inventory and get it done. As they roll out newer better products, they won't want to compete against themselves. 2) Restart everything that sells and don't make more of things that don't sell and fix the quality. 3) Look around Stellantis for rebadges that will give them something quick for the dealers. Isn't there a new small truck being manufactured in Mexico for their market? Wonder what the quality is like on it? Is that going to be built here too? 4) I haven't heard anything about their (Stellantis') cash on hand. How will they weather 6 to 12 months before profitability? Lastly, I believe they would benefit from seeking simplicity in engineering as a means to reduce costs, improve reliability and so on. Remember, this ain't John Deere. What would a modern day "K" platform be? They need to develop a 2024 "Swiss Army Knife" platform that's rugged, reliable and simple. I believe TK could best the Iacocca turnaround!

@johnv6806Ай бұрын
Why would you want a V8 hybrid? Isn't the point of a hybrid to power the electric engine with a small ICE so you don't have to "charge" and get better mileage?
@jackprick9797Ай бұрын
@ yeah, that's true. But people don't seem to really want electric cars or cars that are configured to mainly run on batteries. But a v8 you could use when you wanted or when you need, plus an electric motor and small battery to meet emissions, drive around town, would be a way of having your cake and eating it too.
@ducktails1695Ай бұрын
@@johnv6806 A hybrid is the best of both worlds, especially a plug-in hybrid. You can get better efficiency overall because there's constant electric assist and they can improve the performance as well for the same reason. You can also use it in EV only mode if you don't necessarily want to use the motor at that particular time. It's also a way to get people into EV's without the hassle and worry of running out of battery and waiting for it to charge up.

I know you all hate the Hornet but that is one of the vehicles they should really focus on. Get the pricing lowered to where it should be, fix some of the initial issues with it and this is one of the vehicles they could move the hell out of for everyone. Dealers could go from not wanting to get any Hornets to really wanting these as they can quickly move a lot of them. It's actually a really nice vehicle for everyday usage. Yes, I know you all want a V8 Dodge and they can still make those as well and they should. If they can move Hornets they could offset some EV emissions and enable them to release more V8 based models of other vehicles. Everything is a tradeoff and you can't have one without the other. This is how Ford is still able to make a V8 Mustang. They knew the tradeoff needed to exist. If the Hornet GT could start out around $27,000 or so with the GT Plus around $29-30,000 they could move a lot of these. I think R/T could start out around $34,000 and max out around $40,000 for an R/T Plus with all options. $50,000+ is just way too expensive for this vehicle and is the primary reason why they're just sitting. It's too nice of a vehicle inside and out to start out in the lower $20,000 range like some are asking and the feature set of the R/T is pretty damn good and could never be profitable in the upper $20's. It's just not feasible. The days of $20,000 or sub-$20,000 vehicles are long gone. That ship has sailed a long time ago. This isn't 2000 anymore.

It's just so much less stressful for everyone and could make the car buying experience a lot better. Dealers could still try to sell you a package or itemized dealer addon's, but they can't make it mandatory.

@LongIslandMoparsАй бұрын
@@ducktails1695 the flip side is that you're at the mercy of the manufacturer's pricing without being able to shop around for a better price at another dealer. If I held any confidence in vehicles produced by Stellantis or I knew the dealer body was consumer-friendly, I might feel different. Tavares looked at Chrysler and Dodge as separate and didn't understand that all these brands share designs so actually its cheaper for these brands to produce than the European brands with their own separate designs. Again just reskin the Charger into a Chrysler 300 or Imperial and even out the cost per unit by producing more ICE cars so the profits are up and they can sell at lower cost. Great Takes , Sometimes you have to step Back to go forward , They could start by Re imagining the Dodge Charger and bring us back the coupe , Re Brand it the Dodge Charger Special Edition Brougham charged with a 318/360 or 383 and of course a Hemi , They could also Bring back the Plymouth Satellite as a Chrysler Satellite R/T With same engine Package but make it a 4 door sedan . Then they could also begin Marketing the Charger as a Re fresh of Tradition Just like they did with the Challenger. Then they could also Start Marketing the Satellite R/T Back to Law Enforcement !! We all know just how much of a Mess the Police Durangos were !!! Just some Thought from an Old school Die Hard MOPAR Fan !!!

They need to bring back cars and trucks that people WANT to buy, that don't compromise on quality; and which cost a hell of a lot less. If they can do that, they'll make more on total profits, because sales will go through the roof; and in selling higher volumes they'll take away sales from competitors. The ONLY brand that they should consider Luxurious is Chrysler! Yes, Jeep and RAM can offer their top of the line luxury vehicles, but as soon as they forget about selling high volume low profit cars that everyone actually wants, they'll screw themselves. Dodge really shouldn't venture into luxury vehicles. Let the customers do it themselves via aftermarket upgrades.

@@roguedolphinYes, and with all the domestic makes. I don't shop the US brands anymore because they are overpriced and are not the pinnacle of quality and reliability. It's sad because I want to. I don't lease, either. I buy my cars and put hundreds of thousands of miles on them. I've been satisfied with Acura since 2012.

Here is an idea, don’t mess with Dodge. Use those Charger EV for the Chrysler 300 sedan and Chrysler 300 coupe

There's a huge opportunity for them to come out on top.... or will Ford or GM have the secret sauce?

With the chaos that is Stelantis right now, bringing him in over all the Mopar brands simultaneously would not be "politically expedient" and would make too many ripples right away. However... Bringing him in over Ram vehicles gets his foot firmly in the door so later, they can say See, he did exactly what was needed to fire that brand back up, numbers don't lie, he needs to go ahead and resume control of CDJR as a whole and do what he does best... Build the brands while *making us money.*
