After doing races out West, you might find it a bit easy to do them on the East Coast. The elevation is bigger out by you (with the exception of Killington, that thing is a monster). We were just thinking the opposite, we need to head out West. Would love to do Tahoe and SoCal. We have friends out there, and it would be cool to do some races all together. We have to see what we can put together for next season. Either way, maybe we'll see you out there!

I was wondering if instead of skipping the long distance obstacles like the log and bucket carries if you could instead time lapse them so viewers could appreciate the distance traveled for those grueling tasks :)
@OCRKings5 жыл бұрын
That's not a bad idea, thanks for the input. We used to do that, but it got a bit repetitive and since we're shooting on GoPro, the resolution got kind of cruddy. What we might do is give the mileage and elevation changes on the next one but still skip a bit.

I can just see me on my first race someday getting to the low crawl and clothslining myself.
@OCRKings5 жыл бұрын
No joke, some people do get hung up in the wires... The low crawl has elastic stretchy wire so you'd be fine there! The barbed wire is about 2 feet off the deck, so as long as you stay low enough and pay attention to where you're going, you can roll right under it with no problems. Just be observant of where you are in relation to the wires an you'll be fine!

@OCRKings4 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness, Killington. That was my first ever Spartan race (Mack). I got a rude awakening. Having done a couple o' Spartans since, my recommendations are the following: Pack hydration (I didn't, bad move). 1 to 1.5 L should do it. Pack a hat (I didn't and regretted it). The weather can go from cold-ish to COLD, especially after the water obstacle(s). Pack some gels or some nutrition that you can eat on the go (I didn't, bad move). I like gels and I like that skippy has peanut butter in little packets like gels now. I tend to pack 100 cals per 2 miles and tend to consume that amount per mileage. You know your body and caloric demands, pack accordingly. Packing some mustard packets may not be a bad idea either. They're gross, but if you get a cramp or muscle lock, they will help the muscles release. Drink plenty of water the week of your race, carbo load 2 days before, and don't try anything new the day/night before your race or the day of. You don't want any surprise tummy issues. Try out any and all gear you plan on wearing/using a lot before the race. MOST IMPORTANTLY, TRAIN HILLS. If you have access to hills, go out and run/hike them. Take the people you are doing the race with too. Killington will have the "death march" at least once where you go from bottom to the top of the mountain. It goes on for ever. Best to train for that, your body and your mind. Hope this helps. Don't be nervous, you will do great. Just keep moving, have a good time and be safe. Good luck at your races and with your Trifecta - AROO!

I’m doing the Spartan Beast in Jersey on April 27th 😩😩😩 Are these obstacles and terrain similar? Also how did you do the rope traverse going up? Were you upside down pulling yourself up?
@OCRKings5 жыл бұрын
Right on, we'll see you there! The obstacles will be similar to this video yes, but the terrain is a bit harder. There's way more elevation gain. The last time we did the Ultra there, the elevation gain was over 7500ft. They love sending you up the mountain there in NJ. For the traverse rope, Damer went on top of the rope and slid himself across. I went underneath the rope and pulled myself across. Over is the better technique I think, just harder to get up there and balance. Underneath is way easier to set up, you just have to watch out for rope burns, and not stop once you're going. You don't want to linger out there and burn out your arms whilst dangling.
@ObyNwaogbe5 жыл бұрын

Are the red ones a different weight? I saw red buckets and red logs
@OCRKings10 ай бұрын
Good question, and yes, there are different weights. The red buckets are for women and the black ones are for men. The red ones are lighter (40-60lbs according to Spartan) and the black ones are heavier (70-80lbs according to Spartan). Same with the logs, the red colored ones were for the ladies. They were all different diameters, but the smaller ones were red.

Good question - in open waves you can make multiple attempts at the obstacles, but failure to complete, or skipping an obstacle results in a 30 burpee penalty. For instance, you can try multiple times to complete the rope climb, but in the end if you don't get to the top and ring the bell, you will have to do 30 burpees before continuing on in the race.

@OCRKings6 жыл бұрын
Good question. This race was 12+ miles over all. There were spots where the obstacles were basically right on top of each other. They were within yards of each other. Sometimes there was a mile to a mile and a half between obstacles. Spartan likes to mix it up like that. If the mileage is a drawback, how about trying a Spartan Sprint? They are only 4-5 miles, and the distance between obstacles is relatively short.

Aroo!! Good question too. Now that they have lids on the buckets, we both prefer to carry them upside down. This removes the encounter with the sharp little edge at the bottom of the bucket.
