Us too! Overall what did you think of the races? Thought there should have been a few more obstacles in the first mile, but overall we really liked the venue and we'd go back.
@kashchei20034 жыл бұрын
OCR Kings I did Chino Sprint last year as well and the venue felt very different in that the distance was shorter and there were no mud pits or dunk wall this time around. The obstacles were spaced a little close, but didn’t warrant complaint. The Sprint felt almost too easy, but I guess it’s a way to hook novice racers for more. Overall I liked the speed and ease of the Sprint, it was active recovery from the Super the day before Lol The shorter Super distance was nice on the legs and all, but I feel like the gap between the Super and Beast is a little wide. Other than that the Super was fun too, had a lot left in the tank at the finish line.

I watched this and the Sprint footage. No water, no fire, no mud? Seems odd, but maybe not for SoCal. Good work guys. I think I'm in for a mudfest in Jacksonville this coming weekend.
@OCRKings4 жыл бұрын
Yes, no mud, water, nor fire. I think with the drought out there, fire was an absolute no go. I had heard too, that there was some sort of soil study doing on there as well, so they disallowed any digging for mud pits or trenches for dunk walls etc. It was held in a park, so I could understand them not wanting to have the place all dug up and filled will holes. Good luck in Jacksonville, have a great race!

Fau Q is correct. Mack has a ton of upper body strength and tends to just arm up the rope without any foot technique. For me, (Damer) the j-lock technique is a must - but its something I do practice.

Just did the 5k sprint in rak I placed 15th but I was wondering how the placement system works, is your position determined based on how fast your time was in comparison to other people in other races or is it just based on the position you can in during your race?
@OCRKings4 жыл бұрын
Good question. You can place a number of different ways. They are all based on time, but you are also placed based on age, gender, and wave. If you go out in an elite or age group wave, you will be juged on time vs. those in your wave (and by gender in those waves). Open waves will judge you on time vs everyone else in the open waves and gender. I think that is how they do it in a nutshell.

It was very dry by the time we got to it so it was no problem at all. We heard it was a bit slippery earlier when it was wet. It was the first time we faced Olympus with the new slippery surface and steeper angle. IMO that was the hardest obstacle.

Do you mind if I ask what gloves you're wearing?
@OCRKings4 жыл бұрын
Those are an old pair of Mechanix gloves acquired from Home Depot 6 or 7 years ago. They are not OCR specific, they just have a great grip. I don't think they sell this particular pair anymore, but Mechanix still makes plenty of newer ones.

First race this June, any advice ? Should I try to go fast or pace myself ?
@michaelengle90623 жыл бұрын
if you're just in crazy-good shape for speed....but I'd say pace yourself...it's between 8-10 miles depending on location. I did my first obstacle race at 44 and in 'fair' physical condition....I just paced myself on the running portion and did the best I could on the obstacles. on all the ones Ive done, I finish in the lower 25-30% but its still loads of fun,...my favorite part is how cool everybody is at these things....the elite athletes, couch potatos and guys in the middle like me were all having fun and encouraging each other.
@OCRKings3 жыл бұрын
Great question! And I agree with Michael's post. No problem with pacing yourself. If you are in great condition and are dead set on getting a podium spot, by all means, put the petal to the mettle and go for it. As far as us, we pace ourselves, make sure we hit all the obstacles, and focus on having fun and not getting hurt. For your very first race, maybe pace yourself, but depends on your objectives and fitness level. One suggestion though would be to let everyone else come flying out of the gate like maniacs and then gas out. Everyone is usually super pumped when the announcer yells "Go!!!" Most of them you can catch and pass by the second or third obstacle because they're smoked. Food for thought.

For OCR, what do you set on your Garmin watch? I saw you are wearing insincts. Is it running or just cardio?
@OCRKings4 жыл бұрын
Good question. We don't necessarily set them to a particular activity to be honest. I guess they default however to running. All the stats in Garmin Connect are listed as running. We've definitely not set any of them to cardio. We tend to focus on avg pace, current pace, and mileage when we're on the move.

Nope. We're guessing it has to do with fire conditions in California. Very dry and susceptible to fires out there.

was there an accident that cause 2-3 miles of the race to get cut off? I've seen that happen once on a course. This was not a Super. at only 6.75 miles. Typically when a super has been less than 9 miles it's largely because they're taking elevation change into account. This had none. This was at best a sprint+.
@OCRKings4 жыл бұрын
Good question. This year Spartan started shortening the Sprints and Supers to 5k for the Sprint and 10k for the Supers. This Super was just over a 10k, but was way shorter than the 9 mile Supers of old.

@OCRKings4 жыл бұрын
Good point, and we would rather see them that way too. During a batter swap, the d@mn gopro went right into time lapse mode. So what you're seeing is the product of a glitch rather than an artsy decision. Damer has updated the firmware so hopefully that won't happen again. What you're seeing is the slowed down version of what was super sped up video.
