Me and my dad are planning to do this in may, but im not fit at all, but i am planning to work out, after seeing this, im not sure ill be able to do most of it without struggling a lot, do you have any tips for what to try and practice with to train for it
@OCRKings3 күн бұрын
Ok, no worries, you got this. Run when you can, unless running is not an option. Walk, use a track, or even an elliptical. Try to workout in the gear you plan on wearing to the race. Test it out an make sure everything is supportive and comfortable, no rubbing, no coming undone or what not. If you have no obstacles to work out with, try to work pullups into your routine. Pullups work the same muscles you'll use for all the climbing and pulling obstacles. Again, wear your gear for the race while doing your workouts, including during pullups. If you want to simulate a rope climb, throw a towel over the pullup bar. You can use one for one hand only, or two (one for each hand). Gripping the towel that way simulates the handhold for rope climbing. It really helps with grip strength that way. If you have obstacle specific questions, hit us up at ocrkings@gmail.com. Train hard, have fun, and let us know how it's going when you get a chance. AROO!

A whole lot more photographers this year. What's everyone's opinion on the new photo format?
@OCRKings7 ай бұрын
Not a fan. Spartan had so much additional promotion via folks uploading their pics all over the place through SM. There is far less buzz now. How are people on FB and IG going to be enticed by their friends and coworkers to try a Spartan Race for the first time? Those weekend and Monday morning posts went a long way. I see far, far less pics being posted out there. No one wants to pay an additional fee for pictures. We don't, and won't anyway.

What kinds of gloves were you wearing for Olympus?
@OCRKings14 күн бұрын
I was wearing the now defunct WGS-1 gloves from 3M (size large). The link on Amazon is amzn.to/4a2ku3X. Not sure why they stopped making them, but they are awesome on the chains on olympus, even and especially when wet.

As a first timer, do they hold you to burpees / penalty lap if you do not complete an obstacle?
@OCRKingsАй бұрын
If you are running in an age group/competitive wave, yes they will hold you to the penalties (burpees or laps). If you are in an open wave, no, not as much. Open waves have more of an honor system for the penalties.

For Olympus, have y'all noticed a consistent change in surface recently, please?
@OCRKings5 ай бұрын
Absolutely YES! Definitely at Woodstock NY it was way more grainy, scratchy almost, like sandpaper. It was not the slick, slippery, plastic/synthetic material it has been since 2020. That's what we experienced anyway. How about you??

That's a heartbreaker. The gloves used to be right on Amazon here: amzn.to/3X9rvLv They were only like $20 when I got them. They are listed as currently unavailable and have been like that for a long time. I don't know if they're coming back. I haven't been able to find them anywhere else, but might be out there on eBay??

I just have one question: Can you do it barefoot?
@OCRKings4 ай бұрын
You could do it with barefoot type running shoes or Vibram five finger type shoes, but purely barefoot with no shoes and socks and nothing at all on your feet I think is not allowed. You'd really want something on your feet to guard against all the rocks out there, and obstacles like the Z Wall might be downright painful w/o shoes.
@WildBearFoot4 ай бұрын
@@OCRKings I've spent 12 hours a day barefoot for the last 10 years, nothing hurts my feet. But I suppose rules are rules, if I decide to train for a Spartan I'll do it in shoes, thanks for the reply.
@OCRKings4 ай бұрын
@@WildBearFoot Right on! If nothing else, maybe hit up Spartan directly and ask them if shoes are indeed mandatory. They might not be (any more). I looked on their help desk site and didn't see anything that expressly stated you MUST wear shoes... Here is their link: spartanrace.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Over priced and not much new obstacle. I feel like Spartan race is dying is it dying? I was thinking of signing up Vermont next weekend for beast I haven't trained but I have done it before. Was just gonna wing it with out working out lol

Yes, agree on the no new obstacles. It gets stale after a while. Hope their not dying. They really need to innovate, however. We need some new stuff.

Let's ask the important question: how the heck do you get that shirt yellow again? What's your mojo laundry secret?
@OCRKings7 ай бұрын
Ha! Good question. That mud there are second only to SC, not as red, but almost as sticky, think, and persistent. It was almost impossible to get off the gear without multiple washes. First all the gear got hit with the hose in the driveway, then put into a 5gal bucket and left to soak. It got rinsed out on the driveway, then put through the hose and bucket process a second time. After rinse and wring out on the driveway, the stuff went through the washing machine, on heavy wash, twice. What a mess.

@OCRKings6 ай бұрын
If they are wet, they can be difficult, but if dry, no prob - pump your legs for momentum and keep moving through the obstacle. Hanging around creates a drag on the body, and that's when most people fall off.
