You did a great job explaining every aspect from stat to finish. Thanks for taking the time to do this. This blind is awesome.

Love the blind.. I am just about finished with one similar to this blind. I got the idea from yours but made some slight changes.

I’m going to build mine slightly larger. A 2’ small wall instead did your 1’. Total dimensions comes out to around a 6’10” square platform if my math is correct. I’ll have mine with 6’ high walls and a modified roof design. The biggest reason I have to modify your design is I have to build/paint the blind in stages and assemble the whole thing at another location. It’s going on a trailer runner, so it will be movable, but my shop is about 10 miles from where the runners are. So I’ll build the whole blind first, mock it up together, make sure everything fits and is painted together. Then I’ll number the walls, take it apart leaving each wall a single section and the floor and roof each one section, and transport to location. Then I’ll have to level the runner, build the leg frames onto the runner and support them, add the floor, then each wall individually, then top it off with the roof. Then I’ll ladder up securing the roof, and running caulk in all the cracks. I’m planning to have the floor roughly 6-7’ from ground level, making a total of 12-13’ to the top of the roof on one side and 14-15’ to the apex of the roof. I’ll also have shingles on the roof, foam insert in between the carpet and the floor, and im going to use spray window tint on the plexiglass windows so I can see out but animals can’t see in. The other substantial modification is I’ll have a very small lending the size of the door sticking out from the door, and I’ll have a set of stairs attached along the legs of the blind leading up to the landing. My dad can’t climb a ladder anymore so if I want him to hunt with me or him to be able to use this I’ll have to make it accessible

Sounds like you've put a lot of thought into how it's going to be built. Yeah, not everyone has the access to equipment or access to the area with equipment to elevate them in one whole piece. Definitely complicates things more but you do what you have to do to get it done. Good luck with it. Hope it goes well and thank you for watching and commenting!

@@UncleBucks lol I am a tinkerer and your video inspired me to completely re-do the one I already have build on those runners. My dad got his grubby little paws into the first build and I’ve never been happy with the design or outcome of it so this time I’m doing it right and well away from him so he can’t muck it up 😂

Love it. I like how your windows fold down not up, seems less movement where the deer could see you. I'm going to try and build one just like this. Only change is I'm going to add a supported 2x4 running on the outside of the windows for a gun rest. I have a .308 with bipods. Little heavy to free hand, at least for me.
@UncleBucks4 жыл бұрын
It's good to have a gun rest! I too plan to have a bipod on hand in case a long shot is needed out of a corner window. Wouldn't take much to add a rest like you plan to do. Good luck with it!

We use turkey fryer bases for heat, definitely more quiet than the buddy heater
@UncleBucks3 жыл бұрын
The ignitor on the buddy heater clicks when depressed but it's silent when it's on and running. Is that what you mean by it not being quiet?

How well has the plywood held up in the weather with just the paint? Did you seal it any outdoor wood sealer?
@UncleBucks2 жыл бұрын
The paint is holding up ok but not great on the sides with full sun. It's been close to 3 years now though. I'll probably hit it with another coat this summer or next summer at the latest, and would expect that coat to last another 3 to 5 years. Bucking up for treated plywood would be a much better, lower maintenance solution, but I don't mind maintaining mine once in a while. Its a good reason to get back out there a little more often.

I did not use a wood sealer BTW

@@UncleBucks Okay thank you. I’m in the process of building one like this. I have enough scrap tin for the exterior I think that’s the way I’m going to go. Thank for these videos!!!

Awesome job with this build. As you mentioned in your other video, the cold is getting to be too much so looking to build a much nicer setup for my dad and/or 2 daughters to join me someday. I did watch your video on how to make the windows (thanks for that as well). How big are your horizontal windows on this octagon blind build? Thanks in advance!
@UncleBucks3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment! The horizontal windows are 30" wide by 18" high.

@@UncleBucks I'm hoping to start this build in another month or so. I have 36" x 24" plex panels for windows. I'm planning on bowhunting from it and it will be elevated 8 feet from the ground. If you had a choice with the horizontal windows, would you use the extra 4" i have and just move them opening higher or are you totally happy with your window size and height?
@UncleBucks Жыл бұрын
@figure8musky the bigger windows are plenty big already in my opinion. If you shoot a crossbow, there's definitely no need to go bigger than what I did. If you shoot a vertical bow like me, it seems like windows could always be bigger, but I personally wouldn't make them any bigger. The main reason is so that you don't end up more exposed.
@leonardharzinski97343 жыл бұрын
How much would you estimate this blind weighs? I'm thinking of building this blind and wondering if my 40hp midsize tractor would be able to pick it up.
@UncleBucks3 жыл бұрын
800 lbs but that's just a guess. My JD 4044 lifted it no problem.
@DustySmalls4 жыл бұрын
Are the windows big enough to stand up and shoot a bow?
@UncleBucks4 жыл бұрын
They work for me to shoot a vertical bow standing or sitting.

Yes, that's how I did it.

Just curious how much did this cost you im thinking about doing one this spring im just trying to figure out if its worth it time and material vs buying one
@UncleBucks3 жыл бұрын
The materials for the blind (excluding the tower) were around $800 but that was before material prices went nuts. You're probably going to be closer to $1500 now (January 2021) if prices hold and don't come back down.
@Njjb1223 жыл бұрын
@@UncleBucks yea lumber is rediculous right now i might just slowly accumulate the material from work most of the material in commercial construction is metal but once and awhile i could get some plywood and studs thanks for answering
@josephslappey33644 жыл бұрын
How did you go about elevating the blind on the tower?
@UncleBucks4 жыл бұрын
For this blind I used a skidsteer with pallet forks. 4x4 posts were dug in the ground first and cut off level at about 9'.
