If anyone is looking for a kid friendly Halloween movie I recommend an old Ray Bradbury movie called The Halloween Tree. It's animated and from the 90's. I always watch it every year to kick off my Halloween viewings. It's based on a Ray Bradbury book and he is also the narrator in the movie. Leonard Nimoy also voices one of the main characters.

There was a Netflix series named The Fall of the House of Usher from last October, and while I found it quite engaging, I think it's one you will want to pass on. The series includes many ideas from several Poe stories, not just Usher, and I found that kept me further engaged noting when elements of other stories or poems were efficiently rolled into the narrative. Good job with the Janice Ian link. I have prosopagnosia, and often recognize actors by their voice long before their face. I get the same, "Where have I heard that voice before" feeling that often ends in a web search.

Hello J. Wow, lots of movies in a short timespan. I like a good spooky/suspenseful film now and then. I do shy away from vampires and werewolves, and don't care for too much blood/guts/swearing. A tiny portion of a song stuck in your brain, and can't place it? Join the club! Two years ago that was me, trying to figure out a Rush tune from a small snippet of lyrics and some mysterious music from distant lands. (It was Tom Sawyer.) AI, yes. I used to enjoy using Bing at work but now it's AI Central. Nothing makes my heart sink like a robot helpfully typing a long AI answer to my simple question. I may check out M3gan based on your review, looks delightfully creepy. Thanks for these, enjoy the nice fall colors.

I enjoyed your analysis of these films most of which I have seen. When it comes to horror I much prefer psychological horrors as I believe that it takes more skill and they tend to leave more of an impact. One of my favourites is, 'The Innocents' from 1961 starring amongst others Deborah Kerr, and more recently 'The Others' from 2001, it's films like this which I like or the more gothic offerings from Roger Corman, Hammer and Universal studios.

I am a gorehound. Just watched Terrifier 3 and Maxxxine. But I equally love the more restrained terrors. There was very little graphic content in the horrors of the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. And yet they dripped with striking atmosphere and imagery. The exploding heads of Dawn of the Dead 1978 and Scanners 1981. Or the unmasking of The Phantom 1925 and The Wolfman 1941 stalking a foggy forest. All good to me. The Grey is good. I enjoy movies set in nature. There was a part that strained credibility, but it mostly stayed grounded. I like director Joe Carnahan. Smokin' Aces 2007 and Copshop 2021are personal picks. M3GAN is The Terminator for tweens. The girl portrayed grief well. The aunt. I don't get. She just lost her sister, which would be devastating and yet she seems more concerned about her work commitments. I'll be there for M3GAN 2.0 in 2025. Thank you.

Not sure if you were referring to me when you talked about Virus. I was talking about this movie in another video of yours for some reason that I can't recall now. You can buy the full version, but it's hard to find - found out that one DVD advertised that it was the full version, but it was also the short one. You didn't mention the one scene which I know that I previously "warned" you about - although it looks like one of your stills was from this scene. I like the movie overall, but this scene hurt my appreciation. And that was when they were talking about the continuing of the human race through procreation. I understand this is a legitimate thing to talk about in a world ending/building scenario; however, they were making it out like they didn't have a choice. By the way, the long version is essential viewing if one is to watch this film. I also have Terror Beneath the Sea as a movie that I want to see eventually. I noticed it because of Peggy Neal, who was also in The X from Outer Space which I have seen. I'm usually curious as how these English speaking actors get involved with these movies made in Japan.

Janis Ian's At Seventeen is great, it always reminds a little of Don MClean's Vincent as they're more akin to poetry set to music rather than just a song. Another of her recordings that I really like is the song Fly too High, which was released in 1979, but it's totally different as it's a sort of Disco tune. I was interested to know what you deem to be occult movies though, is it movies such as The Omen, Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist? I would say they definitely are, but then there are others including The Devil Rides Out, Race With The Devil and The Mephisto Waltz which could also be classified in that way, but to me feel very different Race With The Devil is an actioner starring Peter Fonda and Warren Oates that basically uses the occult as a premise to start the narrative off. Anyway, I'm going to check out Virus, as I'm quite keen on films of that nature too and it's the first time I've come across it.

Happy October! I had a question regarding your comment about occult themed films. I TOTALLY respect your decision to avoid these, but I wondered if you could give an example of one you'd pass on. I only ask so I would have an idea of what things to avoid suggesting in the future; I''m thinking I don't watch a lot of these either, but just to be sure. Enjoyed your reviews, as usual! P.S. A.I. scares me, too; a lot.
@Weiselberry2 ай бұрын
Sure, I can give you a specific list of things I prefer to avoid, but rest assured that I'm not offended when someone recommends a film with any of these elements. I get all kinds of suggestions, and I figure it's up to me to do my own homework by checking the parents guide on IMDb, which helps me decide if I want to move forward with a film or not. Content I prefer to avoid includes demonic possession, devil worship, satanic imagery, witchcraft, seances, mediums, and ouija boards. So, yes, cinematic giants like The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby are out, as well as many of the more popular horror movies of the last couple years, such as Hereditary, The Witch, Midsommar, Late Night with the Devil, and Longlegs. I'm also iffy on supernatural/paranormal stuff with ghosts and haunted houses and evil things. Some I'm okay with. Others I skip. I should note that there are certainly films I've watched and enjoyed that had one or two of these elements. For example, I really like The Black Cat (1934), in which Boris Karloff leads a satanic cult, and I still love the 2006 adaptation of Jane Eyre even though they added a scene with a ouija board. I don't like it, but I don't avoid the miniseries just because of it. I hope that was helpful!
@Ravenscroft822 ай бұрын
@@Weiselberry it was, thank you! And I agree about The Black Cat; it's one of my favorite classics, in no small part because I love seeing Bela as the "good guy" (kind of) for once. I do consider myself a genre fan, but I greatly prefer the older stuff. Horror from the 1980s forward or so has been...iffy to say the least, and I'm pretty jaded on modern horror. I can't ever seem to connect with the characters and the emphasis is too much on gore. I am not a fan of profanity or the occult, those are automatic clicks for me. But I love silent movies and followed the link to House of Usher. I had never heard of Jean Epstein, but his avant guard style might have influence Jean Cocteau, that's what this film reminded me of, anyway. And the repeated shots in the house of the long hallway with the curtains blowing with the wind was borrowed for sure by future horror filmakers Paul Leni (Cat and the Canary) and James Whale (The Old Dark House). The original with Henry Fonda and Walter Matthau. The claustrophobic direction and plot line are the things of nightmares. And to think it could all, God Forbid, come true...

I've seen Fail Safe a few times. I haven't reviewed it, but I did talk about an adaptation that aired live in 2000 a couple years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKa7Y36sn6ibg6c

Would love to get your take on that original version. Interesting sidelight -- Fonda as the President, trying to talk down (literally) character actor Edward Binns as the pilot with the nuclear bomb...were both in "Twelve Angry Men" as co-jurors.

Seeing the couple of seventies horror TV movies you started with reminded me of one of the best of the breed: SOMETHING EVIL (1972). Directed by a very young Steven Spielberg, when he was cutting his teeth on 90-minute ABC Movies of the Week (the more memorable effort in that direction was DUEL, which is terrific). SOMETHING EVIL is a solid little chiller with a strong 70's cast -- Sandy Dennis, Darren McGavin, and Ralph Bellamy -- and well worth a watch for Spooky Season. Unless you've covered it already. in which case never mind and Happy Samhain!

Remember silent movies were never truly silent. They had either by a orchestra or organ live score. May i recommend The Night Of The Demon as a good Halloween movie.
