Octodad: Dadliest Catch - Extended Gameplay Preview (PAX Prime 2012)

We are trying to allow options to turn off a lot of graphical effects so that it runs on HD3000 as a baseline, but no promises at the moment.

All the cutscenes are using the in-game 3D engine this time. When the team did the cutscenes for the original game, it was at the very end of the project, as you can probably tell. :)

It will be a digital download purchase through Steam for PC/Mac/Linux and PS4. We have been working on this version for a couple years now and hope that we can continue to support ourselves financially after we release this. (Right now most of us are working part or fulltime jobs, otherwise we'd have released sooner).

Octodad 2 was renamed to Octodad: Dadliest Catch after we decided on the story. We didn't want players to think that they needed to have played the first game since this game assumes they have not.

Sorry for the late reply- Games take a lot of hours to make- we actually feel we're doing fairly well on time compared to other games about our size. Additionally, most of the team has to work fulltime or parttime jobs since we cannot afford to work on Octodad fulltime (we only recently graduated from school before starting this project). On the plus side, we're just working on content at this point, so there's no worries that the project could go under.

Sorry for the late response- we haven't decided what kind of demo we'd like to do, but it will probably be released the same time as the game or shortly after. We've been mostly focused on finishing for the full release. :)

As someone who is learning, and working on becoming a game designer, I was really happy to see Octodad at E3. I think it's really great how far the proof of concept has come, and i'll be happy to grab this game on the Ps4 when you guys release it.

It's still the same base controls, but there were actually a lot of unintentional bugs with the first game that made it overly frustrating. So in that sense, it will be easier to control him without these bad physics glitches, but we don't get rid of the challenge of doing simple tasks with awkward controls. We just make it more fun and rewarding.

We plan to release this as a commercial project at a price point between $10-$15. There will be a demo, of course, but we hope we will have made something you think is worth purchasing and supporting us. :)

We're definitely taking this to completion no matter what happens. Steam Greenlight has just started and is currently doing very well for us in reaching a ton of new players who haven't heard of Octodad. We're aiming very high to make this an excellent game worthy of Steam, so I think we'll be in a very good position by the end. ;)

The first game was a student project. We have been investing in this new version very heavily (over 10,000 collective hours so far) and hope to use this project to sustain ourselves financially in order to keep creating fun and unique games. There will still be a free demo of this version, but we hope that people will find value in the final product and will help support us.

We're concentrating on the PC/Mac/Linux release first but would love to bring to other platforms afterwards, including consoles. We've also been playing around with additional input methods that could be supported alongside keyboard/mouse.

I know that you are not trying to make the game look photorealistic but some of the edges on the objects are pretty sharp, it would help if you would smooth them out a bit , im pretty sure todays computers and consoles will be able to handle a bit more polygons
