In fairness I did try that out on one video that had no voiceover and I did get the volume levels too loud but point taken. It's a learning process like everything else...

Wouldn't the waste ink from the left tube before the Y piece pool in there, since it have to go uphill now? Wouldn't it be better to make it go outside and slightly down and connect the Y outside the printer? Maybe not better looking, but better for the ink flow?

There’s insufficient space in the tube for ink to back-flow past any bubbles of air so a small height difference doesn’t cause any issues. We opted for the single tube exit because the Y-fitting doubles as a strain relief and it minimises the number of holes to drill. When it comes to heights the main one to watch out for is the tank itself. If you place it below the printer by enough you can create a syphon effect that drains the ink reservoirs.

In fairness to Canon (and Epson) they do now have a lot more printers that have chipped maintenance tanks/cartridges rather than static waste pad holders and a need for third party apps to reset the internal waste ink counter. Unfortunately it's not 100% and they've made no effort to retroactively support end-users to do it themselves, even if it was only with software tools.
