Octopus Reacts to Flashlight - Episode 15

It always amazes us when we see animals using tools. This is a sign of intelligence that cannot be ignored! Our octopus was fascinated by the flashlight the moment we shut off the lights and placed it in the tank. He spent a little time exploring the flashlight and its beam of light, and then he did his best to light up his den by pointing the flashlight right at it with pinpoint precision.

Suggestion for a video: put a flashlight with a lever-operated switch, so the octopus can manipulate it, demonstrate how it work, and see if the octopus starts to do it on his own.

you guys should get a light that changes colours and one of those grid light things that can flash pictures and colours and see how and octopus reacts especially to the different spectrums and shapes that can be produced. I also wonder if you could do something along the lines of a cuttlefishes moving patterns and waves to see if it will stun, hypnotize or confuse an octopus

Sometimes it seems the octopi dont get that much time with things....some toys( or multiple toys) should be in their regular tanks for a month??? In case nobody's ever seen a tentacle shadow show before. >>;=) I like how he sat over the flashlight at the one part all trying to disguise and hide it. The light is neat through their tentacle webbings, rather like 🐉 wings do. Neat to see what they do with different items y'all give them to play with.

Could they try a smaller/lighter flashlight, small/light enough to manipulate comfortably with one arm (maybe AAA model?), and give octo a scenario where having that light would be easily beneficial?

how about Glo-Sticks? would he bite through the plastic? large glass marbles to roll around the tank? small bricks stacked up in a wall with some left in a pile to see if he builds another wall hamster habit-trail maze/exploring adventure, it would be interesting to see him have fun

Yeah, give him Lego to build something and Glo-sticks to poison himself. Why not try a piece of sodium and see his reaction. KZbin is a weird place. These creatures have a fascinating intelligence and an unfortunate short lifespan. They should be treated with respect and their reason to be is not entertainment.

It,s marvelous that this creature having such strong strong associations with 1950's type monster movies can be so appealing and evoke positive feelings of affection. I would love to have one as a pet but where could find an effective leash to walk it around the neighborhood?

Not sure if this is safe for him, but I was thinking about that whole business of cats freaking out at the sight of cucumbers, and I'm curious how he might react to that (or other vegetables). I'd also be curious how he would react to different hats (after his enjoyment of the construction hat but hesitance with the wig). These videos are great.

What’s the purpose of keeping this octopus in captivity? I can understand if you’re a research entity, but I’m not really seeing anything here that serves any purpose, other than to get a rise out of seeing this creature react to stimuli. For your own jollies? Captivity is cruel.

I love this channel. But. There's a toss-up developing between providing an insight into octopuses reactions and creating a visual youtube offering. It isn't working out well for either.
