Happy for the shout-out to Guy Godin - on principle and features/performance, a committed genius deserves his dues (and revenue). That being said, I imagine Guy was aware of this possibility from a risk management standpoint, and I hope he finds it exciting, challenging and worthwhile to pursue filling what he perceives as the next gap in VR experiences.

The thing that really sold me on how well Air Link worked compared to VD was Google Earth. I had button mapping issues and couldn't even use the Oculus version, had to use Steam VR every time then swap hands and change the mapping, it would also stutter and get very blurry because of the data coming through for loading Google Earth but Air Link launches the native Oculus Store version with no issues and hardly ever gets blurry and keeps a very steady frame rate. I've also run my Quest 2 battery flat a couple times a day playing Lone Echo via Air Link, it never quite worked well for me with VD either but Air Link works flawlessly and ASW definitely helps haha. I am using VD for 120hz though for some games, that's really impressive and works decently. Guy is amazing and wish he and other devs like the ALVR team got more recognition for their work in proving this is a feature that worked well and people want it. VD is useful and will be for some time yet

@@JSpark135 Can you explain what you mean by convenient? Genuinely curious as the Oculus software always seemed pretty awkward to me, but I only briefly used it around the time the wired link for first Quest was released. From the video though, needing to enable the air link from the pc before using it sounds the opposite of convenient. At the moment I can just put the headset on, start the pc via Alexa if it's not on, connect with VD and launch a game, work on the desktop or whatever.

Update: I tried Alyx and the result is worse for some reason. When I played "Room VR: A Dark Matter" the picture was almost indistinguishable between Quest2 Airlink and Rift S, except Rift had little more clarity in distance, but Quest had less screen door. But with Half Life Alyx the Airlink compression is very noticeable. I guess it's because Alyx is more GPU heavy. Also, Quest 2 is much lighter and more comfortable than RiftS. But the drop in picture quality is not worth it. I'm not sure if it would be better with a better GPU.

I've never tried PCVR content, as I don't have the specifications nor the PC to run it, but it looks stunning in the Quest 2. As an avid VR user and minor VR content creator, I'm sort of mixed between the two. It feels like a bait and switch from Oculus not allowing the Wireless Streaming for Virtual Desktop, but allowing it a couple years later, before releasing their own free Wireless Streaming. It doesn't feel right for that to happen, but things like this has happened before, and I'm not too surprised.

Ultimately your experience will depend on 2 things 1) the quality of your internet 2) the specs of your pc - both these solutions actually have your pc hardware playing and rendering the game the quest essentially just receives the broadcast from your pc via wifi. Poor pc= poor quality play.

A few questions: 1) I've had issues using both Air Link and Virtual Desktop between Quest 2 and my desktop.... any games that I've played previously using my Vive don't work (stays in 2d or won't open). Any advice? 2) Can I get a link to the video mentioned about what games have native support for 144hz?

One more thing. If when setting up airlink and you have v28 on your Quest 2 but you don't see the option within the headset, you'll have to reset the experimental features which will restart the headset and you should be good to go!

I tried to compare it last night when I finally got the update, but my PC was also uploading a big video to KZbin so it was hard to attribute performance drops to either air link or VD. Anecdotally, Beat Saber felt smoother on air link than it has in the past for me on VD, but I haven't tried to use 120 hz mode on VD yet.
