What's going on everyone, in today's video we are talking about an issue I encountered when building a PC for a friend of mine for the purpose of using it for VR. This is an AMD graphics driver issue that arises while being used with Oculus Link. Luckily there is a workaround! Thank you all so much for checking out the video!

Wow, glad to find this video. I found my self saying "Yes!" "Exactly!" "Yup" "uh uh" through your whole description of the issue. I built a PC for VR using some old parts from a friend including an AMD R9 390, Ryzen 2700x, Asus x570-P, etc. Didn't work w/Link. I swapped the motherboard for one w/native USB-C port (boy was that *not* the issue), tried 2 top-recommended USB 3.1 add-on cards (actually performed worse, both of them), called a friend who works in dev support @ Oculus, a debugging guru from Microsoft / Turn 10 Studios, did tons of log file swaps w/support, etc. Never got it working. SUPER frustrating. Then I discovered Virtual Desktop and despite huge skepticism it would work at all, found it works really well and have been playing through Half Life Alyx ever since and loving it. So maybe I'll try this driver update but at this point, it'd have to be some serious benefit to go back to a wired setup.

Virtual desktop is amazing! I use it frequently and have been loving the new updates and features. The newest driver should help out with the wired connection but again I can see why you would be hard pressed to go back to that. Thanks for checking out the channel, I greatly appreciate it!

OMG, thanks. Some how I knew it. It drove me so crazy I smashed my flight set up. I bought this thing and built my new PC for it. I hadn't had any problems with my oculus and AMD GPU before. Worked fine. I hadn't used the Oculus in months but I did update my AMD driver. I just encountered this issue today. I'll roll back the driver tomorrow and see if that fixes it. I have an RX590. Maybe AMD just doesn't want to support the 500 series cards any more.🤷‍♂️ Thanks.

I’m sorry to hear your having trouble with it. In order for it to properly install you need to make sure the factory reset button is checked off in the pull down menu after it checks your hardware. Are you guys getting the error where it says the machine is linked, but then when you open the LINK it loads for a while and kicks you out? THis is BS..... can't believe AMD doesn't support such a popular device

Yeah that was the same issue I was encountering. It would begin to load then boot you out. After it booted you out it would say that the software couldn’t find the pc. The newest driver that is compatible is 21.5.2. Here is a direct link to it. www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-21-5-2 use the factory reset option when installing. Also if you’re running an AMD cpu make sure to update the chipset driver as well. If you need a link to the chipset driver let me know what cpu you have and I will link it to you. Hey! I have an AMD Graphics card and I've had the same issue, I heard it was due to the drivers but it looks like they fixed that issue, I've dealt with this issue for a month now and my drivers and such are all up to date and so is my quest 2 and oculus PC app. So I thought it was something wrong with my cable so I decided to go to my brothers PC and see if it works with his and worked flawlessly, his drivers were the same as mine, and his oculus PC app was on the same version as mine. something to note is that we both literally have the same PC build, Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, RX 570 GPU, gigabyte b450m ds3h motherboard. I don't know why it wont work on my computer but it works flawlessly on his, I even tried the new Air Link feature Oculus launched recently on both of our PCs and it won't work on mine but works flawlessly on his. if you could help me out or if there's a way we can talk about it and get it fixed I would forever be grateful!

Nearly the end of February and still no fix, I have opened a ticket on AMD support, (which annoying they closed without resolution) and they said they are aware of the issue, but obviously in no hurry to deal with it.

All right so if you Google AMD driver 20.11.1 and click on the first link which should be the official AMD page for that driver you can get it from there. Download the driver and run the installer. When the splash screen for the adrenaline software comes up and after it checks for hardware it’s going to ask you to install. Before you click install there is an additional options drop down menu. Click on that and make sure that factory reset is checked. Then click install. I’ll have the video up on Saturday detailing how to do this and will have direct links for the driver that you will need. I hoped this helped.

That will erase any Already installed gpu driver on the pc, And it will reinstall 20.11.1. For instance if you have 20.12.1 installed you want 20.11.1 to replace it so the factory reset removes 20.12.1 before it installs the driver you want. If factory reset is not checked then it will revert back to 20.12.1 or the newest driver you have installed. This will only affect the gpu driver. Nothing else in the pc will be changed. If you need further help let me know. 😁

I recently bought a quest 2 and I had 20.12.1 on my RX 580 didn’t work at all saying “oculus link keeps stopping “. I reinstalled 20.11.1 but now it’s just audio and no picture. SteamVR game “bone works” is playing and I can move my hand on the monitor but not in the headset it’s just black but can still see my stationary area below me. What can I do?

That sounds like you may have a connection issue or the amd driver didn’t install correctly. I would try another link cable if you can or try another USB port also if you can. The other thing you could do is try to reinstall the 20.11.1 driver making sure that when the Radeon software splash screen comes up, click on additional options and make sure factory reset is checked off, this ensure a clean install of the driver. Hopefully this helps

Also, what is the refresh rate set to for your monitor? I was having similar issues and some digging revealed that my monitor being set to 120hz was causing some video conflict issues over Link. After setting it to 60hz it resolved the issue. This may not fix your issue, but worth a check.

@@MIGHTYBANANAS that’s some good info... I never thought about that. I run my monitor at 165hz and it really hasn’t given me any issues. But then again it is possible for that to happen considering I’m running an Nvidia card and AMD cards may handle things differently.

You can turn off automatic updates in the Radeon app. It’s under the system tab. Just uncheck it and your good to go! The driver won’t update automatically and you can enjoy your VR games worry free!

The fact that meta says the cards work on their webside but you have to go trough this sh*t is horrible. My friend bought a 6600 and we were stuck for hours and hours on this issue, we had planned to play bonelab multiplayer but this ruined our plans. Lets hope thix fixes it tomorow.

Has this been fixed?? I have a Ryzen 5600x and Radeon 5700 combo with Win 10 64bit. I cannot get my quest 2 to be recognized. I have yellow exclamation code 10 on Oculus XRSP driver in device manager. I uninstalled/reinstalled oculus pc software, used different cable, tried all usb ports 3.0 and 2.0, nothing. Pulling hair out at this point.

To my knowledge the drivers have been fixed. I would try to disable the oculus xrsp driver in the device manager and re-enable it after about 10 secs to see if that changes anything. I would also try to switch to the XR runtime in the oculus pc software. It should give you a prompt after you connect the link cable.

Hey I need help, I have an rx 570 which is VR ready. I'm trying to use a 3rd-party link cable from Kiwi, Kiwi is known for a cheap but good working link cable for the oculus. I got one that is USB c to USB c. When I plugged it in my Oculus and Pc, nothing happened. The oculus software on my PC kept searching but couldn't find anything. What can I do to fix this?

There may be a few different things going on but I want to go through all the easy stuff first. I haven’t seen many issues with Nvidia cards but seeing that you a gtx 1050 I would have to say that, that card may give you issues running certain games in VR. It may be able to run some games but not all. On the Nvidia side of things the lowest card that is fully supported is the gtx 1060 6 gb model. You can try updating your graphics driver to see if it helps but unfortunately it may not. You can download and run the driver from here if you want to try it: www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/177774/en-us some graphics cards that aren’t on the list will work sometimes, but aren’t fully supported unfortunately. Let me know how it goes. I’m curious to see if anything changes.

If you can wait a little while longer you might be able to get a card at a decent price. Card prices are starting to drop but it’s gonna be a while before they normalize. This past year and a half or so has been crazy for us PC gamers. It will return to normal but how long it will be is still a mystery. I’d hate to see someone buy a card at a ridiculous price, so if you can wait a little bit I would definitely do that. I know it’s tough though.

Watching this because my oculus link with oculus quest isn’t detected by the laptop pc with 2060 rtx and latest graphical drivers installed. Only does charging but the pc app doesn’t see the quest :(

i have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and it gives me this same issue, the oculus app on my computer says my graphics card is incompatible but I checked the specs and its good enough quality to run so is it the same solution for the radeon or what?

Hey kaps, I’ve looked into the issue a little bit and unfortunately the gtx1650 is currently unsupported by the oculus software. The 1650 super is supported but the 1650 is not. Hey Mar, a lot of people have been having issues with oculus link and I had a problem with it the other day with my Nvidia card. I don’t know if you have air link enabled in the headset or not ( I think it’s on by default), but go into the settings of the headset and disable air link there and in the oculus software in your pc. That’s how I ended up fixing my issue the other day. I hope this helps

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with your quest. I can try to help as best as I can. What kind of laptop is it? Connecting the quest to a pc should be pretty instantaneous but there have been issues with it. Are you using a link cable or the cable that came with the quest? Also if you want to try and stream PCVR titles without having the issues of the link cable I would recommend virtual desktop. Hey there brokenlamp, unfortunately the had 7800 is not compatible with oculus link. Unfortunately it may not work. The r280 is not compatible with oculus link, at least not fully compatible. Your mileage may vary and the only way to figure it out is to try it out. Try updating to the latest graphics driver from AMD. They have fixed oculus link compatibility since I posted this video. Unfortunately the 8330 is not a supported graphics card. Oculus link requires a pc that is running at least an AMD RX 400 series graphics card or higher. Here is a full list of supported graphics cards: support.oculus.com/444256562873335/ is this on a laptop or a desktop? If it’s a desktop then you could possibly add a dedicated graphics card to the system. I hope this helps a little and I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with this. I have AMD driver 21.2.3 and RX 5600 XT GPU and my oculus link works just fine

With the latest update AMD fixed the link issue so there shouldn’t be anymore issues at the moment.

For me, the oculus app doesn’t even register that I have it connected with a cord.

@@calebross8174 which cable are you using? Also what’s your CPU? Might need to update the chipset driver.

@@calebross8174 you have to be sure that you are using a USB-C to USB 3.0 cable. If you have a USB-C port on your computer you can use the short cable that came in the box of the quest but it is only USB 2.0 it will only give you 400 mb/s of bandwidth, not good visual quality

@@calebross8174 I have the oculus link official cable and an HP 3 meters USB 3.0 to USB-C cable. Both work but for some reason USB-C ports have a very poor current output so my quest drains battery 🔋 as if it were unplugged. For long fly sim session I use the alternative cable USB 3.0 which won’t keep the oculus fully charged but gives me easily more than 8 continuous hours of use

Update to the latest driver from AMD. They have since fixed the link issue within the driver but you are the first person to say that. It shouldn’t be giving you any messages saying that anything can harm your pc since these are official drivers from AMD themselves. @@FTLOG418 GIGABYTE Z390 GAMING X and Intel Core i9-9900K, but connect to videocard (RTX 2070 super) USB-C port official Link cable. _(Link still connects but now why in USB 2.0 mode. Before that, when I just bought Quest 2, Link worked fine)_

In the meantime try updating your chipset driver and gpu driver to the latest one. You should be able to find the chipset driver here: www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard/Z390-GAMING-X-rev-10/support#support-dl and your gpu driver either through geforce experience or here: www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/ Let me know how you make out with it. I’ll help out as best as I can.

@@FTLOG418 I updated the chipset driver and to my great surprise it worked. _(Although before that I downloaded drivers from the same site)_ Thank you for your help. Only for some reason, if you disable it and immediately reconnect it, the same error pops up.

For the oculus link? Yeah most likely it’s a driver issue. Here’s the direct link to the newest driver from AMD that is supposed to fix the link issue: www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-21-1-1 and I also did a video showing you how to roll back the driver as well in case the newest driver doesn’t fix it. I've had a PC built especially for VR as well. Using RX 580 and Oculus link isn't working

Yeah this seems to be a problem for a lot of people, if you’re running the latest Radeon driver from AMD, which is 20.12.1, oculus link doesn’t work. You would have to roll back the driver to 20.11.1 in order to get oculus link to work properly. I have a video coming out this Saturday showing you how to roll back the driver the easy way. When the Radeon adrenaline sorftware splash screen pops up and after it’s done checking your hardware you will see an additional options drop down menu, click on that and make sure factory reset is checked. This ensures that the driver installs cleanly.
