The story of the interex is one of the most grim dark things in 40k. A surviving strain of the Star Trek like golden age of humanity, with knowledge of the threat of chaos, possessing the resources to potentially rebuild humanity, and with HORUS himself willing to work with them to build a better future for the galaxy. Only for their potential to be snuffed out while beginning the warmasters fall.

The imperium but was a few steps from a prosperus future. All it would have required even, was a simple treaty. The imperium stays out of the interex's teritory, and leaves them alone, and the interex would do the same. The imperium would then trade it's massive quantity of resources with the intrex on a number of designated trading hubs in neutral territory around the interex's borders, in exchange for the knowledge of the interex, along with any particularly interesting bits of tech they produce. Not unlike how the imperium works with the mechanics. Such an agreement could, in time. be a fruitful for further benifits to the moral advancement of the imperium, but that in and of itself would be an excellent first step... Come to think of it. The Tau are not that dissimilar from the Interex... Certainly the farsight enclaves might be a valuable ally to the imperium for similar reasons.
@TealWolf26
@TealWolf26 3 жыл бұрын
@@Destroyer_V0 Much like the Oculus said there was the mechanicus alliance which is wild considering the professed imperial values. So possible. But as much as it would be "good," it apparently would ruin the aesthetic to go the Star Trek route. It passes up the chance for a good tragedy. At the end of the day we are bound by the need for a story with conflict, so GW is gonna do what GW is gonna do regardless of what the wise, safe decisions would be in-universe.

Erebus pushed the button, but it seemed all but inevitable that Horus would fall. The Interex convinced him that the Imperium was just another endless tyranny, a king sitting on a throne far away, bringing war and terror to any it deemed deserving. Understanding, evolution, hope these were dead, and only cold pragmatism mattered. To someone who serves that, what value is their in loyalty or morality, why not simply be a war master. Unfortunately for the Emperor when hope for anything but more death dies, Chaos floods in. Chaos says there’s no point in hoping, the universe is just a mad free for all. The Imperium was almost certainly going destroy this society, even without Erebus. Even if the emperor himself had to do it, but I doubt it could be stopped. With it Horus’s fall began, maybe slower but inevitable:

Even if everything had gone to plan eventually there would have been legion wars in one way or another. Magnus' sons were doomed, Angron was uncontrollable, Lorgar was on a path to know the gods eventually, Fulgrim likewise set himself on the path to corruption; and in a true golden age, most of the legions as they were would have no place within the imperium. I guess the main difference is that the Emperor would be around to participate in whatever conflict took place, and eventually the legions would likely destroy themselves.

@ZeroNumerous
@ZeroNumerous 3 жыл бұрын
@@kyle857 The primarchs were literally necessary for space marines to function. Without the primarchs five of the Legions--the Emperor's Children, Revenants, Space Wolves, Thousand Sons, and Dragon Warriors--would have died in the womb, four more--the Warborn, War Hounds, Iron Warriors, and the First--would have destroyed themselves in the Crusade, two would never grow quickly enough--Raven Guard and Star Hunters--and who knows what the 2 lost Legions would have been like. Without the primarchs anywhere from 8 to 10 Legions would be DOA or destroyed through the Crusade, and 2 would be tiny fractions of their already tiny size. That would leave Ullanor with only 1 full strength Legion to fight it: The Luna Wolves. The Rangdan would have only a single full strength Legion: the First. Even if these Legions still somehow won, then we know at very least the Luna Wolves would have been destroyed even in their victory, as only the Warborn, Iron Warriors, and the First were reliably able implant geneseed without genetic degradation. But even among those 3 stable legions two were killing themselves without their primarch. Without the primarchs there were no Legions, and without Legions there was no Imperium.
@brendancusack7642
@brendancusack7642 3 жыл бұрын
If I may, the Primarchs were a good idea in theory. Don't get me wrong, I ADORE many of the Primarchs and their character immensely. Many of them turned out to be decent and stable folk, and some were even a marked improvement to their legions: see Sanguinius, Guilliman, Jaghatai Khan, Vulcan, even Magnus to an extent. However, I think the rush of the Great Crusade, the Primarchs being immediately thrust into their positions, was a bad idea. The wiser choice would have been to put the crusade on hold when they found each Primarch, or at least give each Primarch a decade or two with Malcador to acclimatize and educate them; with the greatest galactic military organization the galaxy had ever seen for millennia at his beck and call, the Emperor could have, in theory, taken things slow. And of course, especially with the likes of Lorgar, Horus, and Magnus, the whole thing was a tragedy resulting from a lack of communication. The Emperor was loathe to explain himself or the nature of the universe when he really, REALLY should have, not to mention his callousness towards the less favoured like Perty and Angron. Ultimately it was a good idea with good intentions, but flawed, flawed, FLAWED in execution. A good reflection of the Emperor himself, really.

The interex incident!Where the architect's of fate machinations bore fruit. You think chaos was unaware of them? Little mortal you are more and more amusing. The interex were left alone on purpose. Yes the pointy eared blubber mouths told them something of chaos, little that could help them as it was. We were biding our time until the anathema left. His presence kept His astartes safe. We cannot manifest in His sphere of influence, He is Anathema to Us by nature. Without the interex , do you really think Horus would have turned? A person filled with hope for the future does not kick that which he was building down, however flawed it might be. To turn Horus we had to crash his hope first. To make everything seem bleak and hopeless. We besieged him with our slaves, or did you think it accidental he was deluged with impossible demands at this very time? We needed him distracted,over loaded, desperate , on edge. Poor poor Horus . He never had a chance once the link was found. Lorgar blood of his blood ,our wiling servant gave us the war master and gladly. Remember we have all of space time to lay our traps. We see all paths. If not the interex ,something else would have occurred. Horus had to be crushed. We needed a general, someone who could pose a credible threat to the Anathema. Too we needed Him immobilized, rendered helpless to affect events. Horus was meant to fail. Surprised? If he has succeeded in killing the Anathema what do you think would have happened? He would have become the Anathema. He would have taken Horus over with his dying breath.Giving Him a body, far more powerful ,far more durable, than the one that housed Him. A nigh invulnerable eternal body, with His power ? Not in our interest. We needed time we needed Him contained. Horus was the perfect toll for it. The little king was never meant to succeed.

That’s a touch baseline-centric; Horus, at the time had spent thirty years just he and Big Emps, then a further 170 *years* fighting the Great Crusade. It’s not like the guy had just left Sandhurst a couple of years ago and was on the fast-track... 😏

@@jeffreygreen8668 True, but complexity rises exponentially. And from what I understand, during the time he spent with the emperor, and the years fighting, he never commanded more than his legion + adjuncts. And watching someone doing something is far less strenuous than actually having to perform yourself. And perhaps it's also that what he wanted, glory, isn't something that commanders-in-chief get in 30k. The overall commander doesn't have the action. He's pushing toy soldier representations of army groups across strategium tables :D IMHO, Horus didn't want to transition away from field command, yet that is what a Warmaster actually does, and I think that was quite the source of annoyance, combined with - in his eyes - uninspiring pencil-pusher duties and voila, the grumpy employee thinking he's being treated unfairly is born.

@@tripod222 But he did, mate; Horus fought side-by-side with the Emperor. Literally. His intro in Horus Rising has him teleporting in personally and taking out a main dude with a single shot, which rather impressed Loken. When the glorious hawk-boy turned up for a while, he and Sanguinius *fought* together. I could go on. At Ullanor, there was pretty much the biggest parade ever to mark the eradication of the pesky green skins from that cluster, and to mark Horus’ accession to Warmaster. All pretty melée and glorious, to my mind. Sure he had some pretty big work. But the other Primarchs were working over thousands of light years, and not so bad at what they were doing. He wasn’t pulling a Robby-in-Ultramar and literally running everything personally. It’s expressly stated that a/ he liked being just-he-and-Emps, and once Russ and No.2 turned up, he felt a sting, b/that when Empy took off without telling any of his sons what he was up to, he and others were like “dude, what‽” and c/that the accession if the High Lords, mortals all (aside from Valdor, and he busy most of the time), was bloody annoying for demi-gods to have to take. He was created to be awesome. He was awesome. He could deal. But Erebus was a massive dick, which was the grenade-in-the-ammo-dump for the Interex, and then other stuff happened... So like I say, you’re being a little baseline-human, real-world-centric take, in my opinion... 😎

More than any others, my heart weeps for those such as Horus before Interex, and not just for the obvious reason, no. For even if Horus decided to embark upon that road hand-in-hand with the Interex... I doubt the Emperor would have approved, nor would it have been possible to win over ALL of his brother-primarchs in joining this path let alone the entirety Exertis Imperialis and the population at large. Conflict, in one way or another, but certainly bloody, barbaric, and cruel to a degree of which I'm sure those like the Drukhari would approve, would have been inevitable

@@lordfrostwind3151 Considering wide spread utilization of STC forges, one has to conclude the golden age of technology operated not unlike the settings of Total Annihilation, or Supreme Commander do, wherein the mass fabrication of materiel is so easy it is economical to construct an army in theater, and the limiting factor on the exponential growth of industrial output, and by extension of forces, is the physical access to raw materials. This is the sort of setting where a war might involve taking a planet apart, and turning the entire resulting mass into tanks.

I know what I'm going to say will be considered heresy, but to me, many of the problems that would lead to the Horus Heresy could have been mitigated if the Emperor at least educated his sons on the nature of Chaos and the danger it posed. But no, he merely declared all religion and belief in anything other than science as anathema the his Imperium.

He has epic clearance, within his Librarium, and is committing entries to record on the direct order of Robby Gorillaman. I’m not saying that he’s safe, far from it. But I’m of the mind that Rowboat himself peruses these records. And finds kernels of knowledge and insight that even he in his administrative genius had missed...
