There's no precedence for every member of any crew to be the pinnicale of pirating in all regards and soon we'll see another play out of the "Lucci is weaker than Nami/Brook/Usopp/Chopper" nonsense that was just wishful thinking of many fans rather than anything grounded in the logic of the world when they just don't steamroll the giants. Nami/Zeus is strong but I see no reason to think she should be clearly above Road.

I don’t really understand why people are so disappointed. Almost every arc of one piece starts with a slow build up. From Alabasta to Wano, one piece arcs usually start with the crew participating in low level shenanigans before it builds up to a peak later in the story. This is the expectation you should have for Oda’s writing - he does this every arc. If anything the pacing is moving a lot quicker than usual and we might actually reach a peak sooner rather than later

I’m excited. I haven’t read other opinions. And we’ve already had a Nami big brain moment, Sanji joke, usopp got wrecked, zoro and sanji double attack, luffy already raised the bar and proved someone wrong while liberating captives. This is peak one piece immediately after egghead.

I think it’s pretty cool… Usopp saved Hajrudin from being a doll/ toy and ironically Rode is making humans be toys. Hajrudin hold Usopp up in front of the sun and calls him a God after being freed from doll house. The sun god (Rode) is locking people into a doll house.

Speaking of expectations for Elbaf, this chapter wonderfully set up Usopp. He broke the mirror, showing that he's strong already - just like Nami - but still needed Luffy to break the wall, showing that Usopp is still not as strong as the brave warrior of the seas he wants to be.

Probably just a way to introduce the concept of some giants not liking humans or feeling superior. Like arlong and hordy in a way. So everyone butthurt because these little intro chapters not setting up the literal big bad of the arc are being silly. I think it's interesting that Usopp failed whenever he tried to do something; he didn't take out any of the enemies, and he failed to blow open the wall. I wonder if this might be setup for a big Usopp failure when the chips are actually down, sort of like what happened in Water Seven. It seems very intentional that the other members of the East Blue five all successfully did something.

I think people was so addicted about the egghead because of the nonstop battles and nonstop reveals. So, people want more of those continuously. Some people forget to relax. It is just the start of the arc. It should always start with the relax tone because it can't do it at the middle and end of the arc. The middle and end of the arc are so pivotal for the momentum of the story, so there is no place to put some relax vibe other than the start of the arc. Even Luffy was so chill in the last few chapters and he didn't even care about the fake sun god. Let have fun first. I'm sure there will be a lot of nonstop exhausting chapters after next 10 or less chapters. I didn't even see my guy Luffy smile for long time except from last 3 chapters. Relax and have fun. I think u got a lot of Imu's aura during egghead. LOL

On the topic of expectations - how readers consume the story of one piece has evolved so much with social media, spoilers, and content creators so alot of the readers have many thoughts / ideas which they rationalize, justify, and hope to see. Then when those concepts don't materialize they might have adverse reaction to chapter. Part of this may take away the experience of just going with the flow and enjoying the story naturally. I agree your point of a first couple chapters being a prologue and potential microsyn. And think that it helps re-establish just how huge giants are.

I feel that Road's diorama is a scale version of Elbaf (and Nami has now memorized the topography of). i feel that even the "gods" he put in the diorama are real legends the Giant society have and may foreshadow actual protagonists/antagonists we will see in Elbaf proper. thoughts for food? also, did anyone notice Road's sun god cospaly has a net that kinda looks likes Usop's slingshot? i mean im just saying......

This is cap and you know it. Yamato literally declared multiple times that she was joining the crew and going out to sea. She wants to be a pirate. She was set up to be a nakama and I'm still willing to bet she will join the crew before this is over. The whole cover story arc is leading up to something, Oda never does anything "for the lolz". She said she wanted to see Wano first before going to sea and that's what she's doing, same as Oden did.

Here's an interesting theory: Luffy will cause a massive amount of collateral damage on Elbaf. This will put him into direct conflict with Shanks. I think that Shanks is the character who will show up at the end of the arc as a minor antagonist, like Kuma in Thriller Bark, Sengoku in Dressrosa, or Green Bull in Wano.

All theorist social media users with hard head-canon will be sorely disappointed and butt-hurt in these final chapters of One Piece (and ANY long-running serialized fiction). I personally dismissed the hallucination, shrink, and god's knight theories from the start; for like 19 different very obvious/elementary reasons. Oddly, JB has openly admitted to the fact that almost all theories are eventually disproved, so I don't know why he went so hard with this one. Also admitted to some hard truths about being a theorist Tuber/public personality. perhaps he's just getting annoyed at the constant misdirection from Oda: Oda is constantly inserting theorist characters, poking fun at the fanbase, recently... Completely disagree with your Yamato take. She appears out of nowhere during the third act. Unlike every other Strawhat that had joined there was no significant story revolving around Yamato that needed resolving and help from Luffy to overcome. I think you could say Oda fumbled it, but in the opposite direction. The entire characters existence felt like an asspull out of nowhere and felt super undeveloped. I loathed the very idea that Yamato would become a crew member. The only real reason people wanted Yamato as a crew member is one of two reasons: either they were horny for Yamato or they only care about power level/scaling or both - there is no character beyond that.

Not getting Yamato is the biggest fumble ever? Why? Why is Yamato joining the crew automatically assumed to be a good thing. Maintaining storylines for all the crew members is already a big enough task as is. Leaving Yamato in Wano also has a ton of possible narrative purposes. It seems like you’re just having a meltdown because something a character said would happen didn’t happen, and you’re trying to lecture Oda on how to write. You also say it can’t be your fault because only people who are “braindead or lying” don’t have expectation. The problem isn’t with having expectation. Of course it’s natural to have expectations, but the only expectation (meaning a belief that something will happen) that is reasonable is that the story develops narratively and eventually concludes. Have expectations about characters doing what you want them to do when you want them to do it, is braindead. You’re saying you know what’s best for the story that you’re not writing. You can say that you wish Yamato joined the crew, but you cant criticize the narrative of a story that you don’t know because the story isn’t finished. It’s fine if you thought Yamato was gonna join the crew after Wano, but they didn’t, so it’s time to quit complaining and enjoy the story. You don’t have to, but it doesn’t make any sense to still be malding. Regarding the start of Elbaf “I want Oda to meet my expectation or surpass it”. Dude you’re not writing the story, I don’t know how else to explain it to you. This is a you problem, because you’re the adult equivalent of an iPad baby, you can’t conceive of a narrative that isn’t just constant escalation for a few chapters and that doesn’t go exactly how you want. You are upset that Oda isn’t making everything obvious and is making things surprising. How about you try reading the story instead of writing it in your head and then getting mad at Oda.

Yeah about the Yamato thing is that people refused to see other options or see the hints and possibility that they weren't joining. Oden made a mistake by leaving wano vulnerable so Yamato wasn't going to make the same mistake. Yamato is the guardian deity of wano. And the fact they Yamato kept saying they wanted to should have been a red flag narrative wise. People are doing the same for Bonney when she could be joining the revolutionaries.

This was another fun chapter, less comedy this time around but the setting called more for context I'm fine with it being Road, we're in an arc involving Giants, this is a Giant hinted at in cover stories with connective tissue to the Straw Hats. It layers in mystery on Giant culture as well as bringing more conflict into the Grand Fleet which could easily be further explored in Elbaf. Road doesn't approve of the Straw Hats, he thinks humans are frail, he doesn't even trust the word of his captain or the legendary Dorry and Brogy about them. Are there many giants who look down on humans? Has Road left Hajrudin's crew because he didn't want to be in the Grand Fleet? He called this place a 'Giant Detention Center' so is he running some kind of prison for giants? There's mystery and intrigue, I only hope he keeps the Sun God getup compared to his usual outfit, plus he has that One Piece kookiness to him, very obsessed with storytelling - Elbaf is Fable backwards after all - someone get him an Ao3 account. I did tell you though, heels does not mean it's a woman, think people built up that expectation a bit too much. Also I still don't think Yamato would've fit in the crew, what would they have done in Egghead that made them vital for the crew? Carrot meanwhile would've been the Crow's Nest to spot the Eddy, the Island and the Giant's longboat, plus she is agile and could've had something to prove after losing to Perospero. Yamato's cover story still seems too stop/start too, nice to see Tama again but it seems we keep on glossing over this missing people stuff. I don't think it's underwhelming though, the lego blocks was a big giveaway that they were in something artificial, someone calling themselves the Sun God also tells the audience that deception is very much involved, the Longboat made it clear that they weren't at Elbaf yet either, it's still being set up that wherever Luffy and co are they're likely not in Elbaf too. Luffy showing respect for the craftmanship should indeed not go unnoticed too, it opens the door for Luffy to befriend Road later down the line. Also it's cathartic for Nami to get a big hit in, even if it doesn't floor him - which shows how durable Giants are that they can tank a Zeus thunderbolt. What's interesting too is that Luffy has learned to adapt Gear Fourth into smaller portions with no backlash, plus some of the inhabitants in the Block Land are simply playing up to the ruse, and are looking for the opportunity to exit. Of course I made it to the end! You mentioned a fire risking Yggdrasil which could in fact relate to Pandora, who was made from fires that was burning down the giant village, maybe Pandora eventually tries to play the role of Surtr?

I understand … but honestly I really enjoyed this chapter and I did not expect all of Elbaf to be a acid trip… I expected to start off like most arcs with low stake fun little side adventure that introduces us to some theme that will likely be present in Elbaf… and I think that is the prejudice and disbelief in humans. Luffy and the strawhats will likely be looked down upon more through out the early part of the arc only for some great payoff where Luffy becomes larger than all of them and clearly has the image and powers of the true sun god making for a satisfying reveal. I was smiling throughout this and last chapter enjoying the original crew dynamics as they all had fun. Road thinks he can control them and they don’t even register him as a threat and instead Luffy does not want to mess up his Lego slave camp which is a bit weird but I guess Luffy is not actually smart enough to realize these people are being treated like ants

I really liked this episode. I think people, including you JB were too hung up on their theories to enjoy the chapter for what it is. And as far as the sleeping mist goes, this is just an educated guess by Road as he doesn't know the straw hats were traveling with the giants. And the giants would have known about the sleeping mist to begin with so I doubt they travelled through it. I doubt Road would have dared `kidnap` them if he knew they were traveling with the Giant Warrior Pirates. I actually found it quite interesting that we have a giant here who is basically a nerd building his own world with people as his living dolls. And something everyone seems to miss is him saying that even if they escape his diorama, they have nowhere to go as it is a giant detention center. So what does he mean by that? Is he himself in a sort of asylum or prison?

I reread the chapter and I don't see any mention of the Giant Warrior Pirates by him.

Im excited but i dont form expectations based that. Even if i do they are hopes not expectations. Many confuse the two and form expectations in their head that have to come true. Of course you can have not expectations. That doesnt make you braindead. Not everyone thinks 24/7 about one piece or is a critique. I read it and consume content for 2 days or so max and then stop thinking about it until next time. No this chapter did not create expectations about the next chapter nor did it for other giants, the structure or the tone.

I've never really understood the disappointment of Yamato not joining the Strawhats after Wano. When Luffy first announced he wanted a crew of 10 and we finally got that with Jinbei, I've never expected another "Strawhat" member. Would it have been cool for Yamamto to Journey with them like Oden did with Roger? Sure, but at the same time the Strawhats aren't in the final leg with them still needing one more road poneglyph rubbing to find laugh tale

My biggest expectation for this arc is that we get the history of how the red line came to be, and/or how it will be destroyed. Because this has been set up, in my mind, since the straw hats left Little garden and Dorry and Brogy says "the only thing we can't 'pierce' is the red spotted snake(i.e. the only thing they can't destroy is the red line); alluding to some kind of prophecy about a ragnarok type event. Very excited but also scared it won't happen.

in all seriousness tho, it's very likely that some of the younger giants developed a hatred towards humans after what happened with Big Mom. If you think about it, Dorry, Broggy, Oimo and Kashi were not on Elbaf and did not know about the incident, Saul was a marine and was born somewhere else and Hajrudin owed his life to Luffy. It could very well be that there are pockets of hate groups on Elbaf, giants that, like fishmen, think they should be superior to humans

On the whole thing with Big Mom's powers, I honestly can see it working like how Moria and Hancock stated their DFs worked and how we've seen them worked over the course of the story. Moria AND Hancock both stated that unless they themselves undid their handiwork, then the shadows stolen by Moria and those petrified by Hancock's powers would remain thus even if someone else gained their powers. So, Mother Carmel's Homie, Pandora, being around still? Totally plausible if Zeus still exists with Nami after Big Mom allegedly died (likely, but with no confirmation, I still say allegedly). Also, to point out the obvious: We have locations that still exist that were formed from DFs. I'm looking at Impel Down's Level 5.5, Punk Hazard after the battle between Akainu and Aokiji. Heck, the lightning island we saw when Urouge entered the New World would probably be one that was probably struck by an user of an electric based DF (possibly Enel's).

I do like how Road’s conflicted feelings towards humans takes us back to the bread and butter issues we had back in the Arlong days with the superiority/inferiority complexes amongst non human races. It definitely makes it plausible for human slaves to exist in at least parts of Elbaf. Plus with Usopp and Nami with them being the most normal humans of the bunch, they’ll definitely pop off and earn the respect of the giants

I think its a matter of reading comprehension, the sleeping mist isnt a contrived reason from oda to explain the strawhats to be captured it was Road theorizing as to why the strawhats were asleep not knowing that they drank the green fairy absinthe all road knew was that they came from egghead cuz of the news and that the giant warrior pirates left to get them thats why nami was waking up first as she has the highest alcohol tolerance amongst the crew, road just so happen to have some sleeping gas on him.The abinthe was a plot device that also acted as red herring that most of the community fell for

The reveal that the villain is a "who-gives-a-fuck" is just perfect, in my opinion. It really shows how far the crew has come as warriors and highlights how much Usopp needed to develop. There isnt evidence of Yamato joining the crew. As soon as Luffy met them, he gave them a nickname. NO SW is given a nickname by Luffy
