Worst backstory? It's like people forget Law's backstory in which his whole country was exploited for their lead which the WG and Tenryubito knew were poisonous but kept silent and continued to demand it. Then after the people of Flevance had been poisoned, the whole country was quarantined and left to die. Once people began trying to escape to get help the whole country was senselessly massacred despite the disease not even being contagious. Children were rounded up and shot to death in the streets. His sister burned alive in their house. His whole country was destroyed. He had to hide amongst the rotting corpses of his countrymen to smuggle himself out of the country. All while he was slowly dying due to the disease. And none of it was even necessary because the disease could only be contracted from open contact with the lead. Yeah, Big Mom eating the kids is messed up but it's not the first time we've seen her eat people and it certainly isn't the worst backstory. Law's was downright traumatic.

Well, so far the implication was that she might have ate homies back then (although for a long time we were not aware of the existence of homies so we assumed they have to be her crew members), not actual human beings, but after this chapter who knows... And while it's true that in terms of scale Law's backstory was worse, none of that was his fault, not even Corazon sacrificing himself later on. But with Linlin, she did it herself, she's the source of the destruction and death around her. And while she might not be aware at the moment what happened back then, judging by her reaction to picture of Mother Carmel being destroyed in front of her, somewhere in her subconscious, deep in her mind those events must have been registered and are about to flood in.
