In those 30 mins, from what I could see, they replaced the rear strut+shock assemblies, rear wheel hub bearing assemblies, rear brake disks, calipers, pads and lines, rear control arms, rear driveshafts, rear differential, rear subframe, part of the rear exhaust, repaired part of the rear left quarter panel, liner and replaced its taillight, and replaced the rear bumper cover and undertray. The only one thing they forgot was to replace the rear oil cooler cooling fan which a mechanic took off right at the beginning. Absolutely incredible teamwork, coordination and efficiency.

Everything is fine, but 6 professional technicians could have done it 10-12 minutes faster if they had a lift that would reliably lift the car by 180 cm. I think Citroen saved money on such a lift.....)))

Sorry man but I'll disagree with you on that one. F1 cars are much more complicated and sophisticated, no one is using a hammer or tape. Also when F1 mechanics have to fix a car they can't just "patch things up" they have to make it like brand new in less than 3 hours. Pit stops are not the only thing F1 mechanics do

I used to do this stuff in the 80's, no power tools allowed. They made you suffer. I remember when a driver broke two works Escorts in the one season, the race mechanic told him if he did it again, he would not make it back to the hotel. Its even more frantic in the Dakar. They have to do this for 14-17 days in the middle of nowhere. One of the works BMW X5's broke a rear wishbone assembly with no spare. The team manager walked over to a spectator who also owned an X5. They bought his whole car off him for cash. Awesome.

Kinda a dream job for a mechanic. High pressure but you can't beat that parts delivery time - they've got everything they need, right there on hand and it doesn't matter how it looks, so long as it works. No rust, no seized bolts, no bullshit - just everything set up just right so you can get the job done. You're allowed to use a big hammer too.

Zariana No, they have five mechanics... they are the guys wearing the yellow foot straps. The rest are onlookers (except for the cleaning guy who has a different foot strap). This is what the regulations demand. Radionut R Also, this car is built for ease of service and the level of finish is "that'll do, it will last the rally" which is why it takes them 30 minutes. This kind of repair on your car would take weeks and cost you/your insurance company a fortune.

No, they did not. The obvious higher ups wanted to feel important, and they discussed it. The mechanics themselves went straight to work. The mechanics did not discuss anything. There wasn't anything to discuss. The mechanics did not get or take any advice from the pencil pushers. They did not get a game plan from them. Did you watch the same video that I did? These professionals don't need to come up with a game plan. They already have one. They practice every possible scenario imaginable. They already knew what they would do if the car broke or crashed in any way.

You should be doing your own oil changes any how. Shops do them too fast. It's best to let your oil drain for at least an hour to ensure you get all the old oil, and the dirt floating in it, out.
@Tk3997
@Tk3997 10 ай бұрын
@@typhoon1575 This is a total myth in case anyone is reading this. To see why just go read the service manual for your vehicle. The quantity specified for an oil change is significantly lower then that for a new empty motor. It doesn't matter HOW long you gravity drain it, there are places within the sump and passages that will never drain out. The two extra ounces that might drip out in the five hours following the first five minutes are a literal drop in the bucket compared to the quart+ that will NEVER come out of the engine in a normal oil change. All oil changes are merely mixing a small quantity of old oil with a larger volume of new. If you do them routinely as you should you will eventually turn over the entire contents, but any single change will never do so. If you're going to do your own oil don't waste your time, give it five to ten minutes and then button it up any longer makes fuck all difference.

Reminds me when I attended Rally Australia at Perth in the mid 1990's, with the service centre set up in the local football oval or showground. I also attended pre-rally scrutineering - as well as the cars, all of the spares have to pass technical inspection. I remember mechanics pulling multiple suspension units, turbo units and god knows what else out of the Subaru 555 service van to get the OK. You then realise the logistics required to run a multi-car team in a WRC event.

back then service teams had to travel alot in service car from a place to another because you could repair your car pretty much everywhere, usually on side of a public road. I entered Rallies in Western Australia during the late 1960's and we didn't have any support whatsoever. Just the usual tools from our shed, a spare tyre and cross your fingers 😀. Yeah that’s the problem with french car makers they have some incredibly good and reliable fars but also as many junk ones. Although it’s best taking a stick shift if you look into older models (no one wanted automatic in eu so they got on it late and the first models are understandably not so good)

I was in a rally support crew and I had three jobs - fuel, wheels/tyres & cockpit and whatever the team manager told me to do. But I ALWAYS did those first 3 areas before "mucking in". All six of us had clearly defined parts of the car we "owned" and only we worked on those bits unless it was under direction of the "owner" of that bit. You can see this behaviour clearly when the driveline guy is the only one working on the diff and the same guys does the whole wheel and suspension then they get on and do whatever else is required. Brings back fond memories of hours of standing around in the cold and the wet and then periods of crazy panic. And staying up all night packing while the drivers were partying in their hotel rooms.
