On this episode of Head 2 Head, Jethro Bovingdon and Jonny Lieberman examine two different ways to solve the same track day problem. On the one hand you have the 2019 Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE, a middle linebacker of a sports car that’s also a dance major. Developed specifically for the track, this 650hp fist of a car has F1-style spool-valve dampers, crazy, illegal-in-Europe aero, and model-specific R compound tires. On the other hand sits the 2020 Evora GT, a recent iteration of Lotus’ “large” sports car. Weighing around 800 pounds less than the Camaro, the back-seat-delete Evora GT is a modern embodiment of Colin Chapman’s maxim, “simplify and add lightness.” That said, the Lotus is no featherweight, as power is up to a healthy 416 hp. Which of these two seemingly incomparable track day specials is best in this comparison test? Watch and find out!

Haha. Just watched the actual video on MTOD. It winds up exactly how you'd expect. The ZL1 is faster around Big Willow than the Lotus. But on the street the 1LE pack with the spool valve shocks makes the ride bone jarringly horrid. The Lotus (which is double the price of the camaro as tested) was a few seconds slower but is a much more civilized experience. And the Lotus had an actual 6-spd manual to the Camaro's 10-speed automatic. Edit: Also Jonny Lieberman can't drive.

My main take away was they should have tested it VS a regular ZL1. Also, that lotus is twice the price. For that kind of money there are so many options. Kinda strange also that they picked that car...litterly never even seen one at any of the car events I go to.

@@zachdebuhr6347 Nah... the British love self loathing. Baking plates of cookies then forbiding themselves from eating any. The famous Lotus Cortina was 1600cc's and 100hp .. Honda Goldwing motorcycles have more power and more displacement. The Elan could have easily housed a bigger displacement engine. Save your sermon on Lotus powerplant choices "Let's make it light, let's make it handle.. and for God's sake let's make it underpowered !! " That's the Lotus and mostly the British way.

The Camaro is also available with a manual transmission so that doesn't give any extra points to the Lotus. The ZL1 1le was actually only available with the manual transmission for the first year of production and GM later added the automatic after enough customers asked for it. If you wanted the automatic you'd have to drop the 1le package and go with just the ZL1.

The suspension is much more compliant to live with on a daily basis. Also the gas mileage is a major plus for the lotus right now. On the used market they are actually very similar prices too.

Such a pointless comparison on so many levels. In 2018 it was announced that the 1LE would not be for sale in Europe due to it not complying with pedestrian safety laws. The Lotus will always seem perversely overpriced in the US because it is an import so huge premiums will be paid just to allow for landed costs (would be similar for the Camaro if this was being reviewed in the UK as an import).
