I’m so impressed with your knowledge and persistence. People commonly work to pay a 15-30 yr mortgage but they rarely will build their own over that time span starting with small shelters and necessities then growing. You’re a great example of transition to a new and better world. Thank You

Thank you very much! I think it's a box people put themselves in, in their thinking and acting, which is even more promoted by the rest of society and what's trendy, easy, cheap, and such. We're all just learning at our own pace what's truly important in this existence!✌🏾

Hey, greetings from Germany. I love your works. Ist already looks so much better. Also Neka's works. You need a lot of knowledge, time and hard work to do this. It will look great when it is finished.

Guten Tag! Und Danke! We've gained a lot of experience over the years, so it is nice to have seen our work develop and now taking that knowledge and experience for this project hopefully shows in the video for everyone too!✌🏾

Love the integrated coat hooks! Walls and roof are looking good, nicely done on working with the unprocessed round poles!

Thank you, the antlers are ones I found on the property when we first got here so they're a really nice touch from neka!✌🏾
@Akio-fy7ep3 күн бұрын
Suggest make yokes that fit over the poles, and drive a bolt through the middle at each point. Existing rafters as cut are compatible with yokes. Using extra-long rafters so you get wide eaves, at least in some places, turns out to be very helpful later. You always find uses for wide overhangs. Wide overhang on the south-facing side keeps the sun out when it is high in summer. You can bolt extensions onto your existing cut rafters to get more overhang.

i had to hinge my trusses at the peak to follow the cabin on it's way down as it settled, its a little wavy today but it holds the snow load well and it doesn't leak. your roof is looking incredibly nice, super flat.
@GrowTreeOrganics3 күн бұрын
Oh right I see!.. Earthships however they're built usually do pretty well with settling, i.e they pretty much settle as you build up the walls, so not much if any shifting at all over time!✌🏾

But thank you very much! Trying super hard to make the roof right!✌🏾

You'll want to put some kind of finish or sealer on those antler sticking out from the wall. In the rain and UV light, they only take a few years to start breaking down. Love the progress! Your place is gonna be so cool.

Your best bet to establish a straight line over a long distance on an uneven surface is a string line pulled taught. Establish your first and last rafter and pull your string from the corner of the first rafter all the way to the last. That string establishes your rafter height and your length positioning so you have a nice straight roof and fascia too. Then fill in the gaps. If you fear that your string sags, install the middle rafter next. Check from time to time that the string has not stretched. 👍

You might want to check out Arcosanti. I lived there for 4 years, it's in the geographic center of AZ. It's a cool architecture community that you might like. I did my PDC in Montana at Wheaton Labs with Alan Booker. It was really good. Arcosanti is where I learned there was a name for what I was doing, permaculture.

Just a recommendation to use shims instead of making cuts to line up the rafters. Easier yet stronger overall.
@GrowTreeOrganics3 күн бұрын
Most definitely, I am and will be doing the roof like that. I only took off what was needed to flatten the space for the shims! Appreciate that though!✌🏾

This channel came across my feed about a month ago. I have watched some of the older videos and i still cannot figure out what this gabionna thing is for. Is this a house? Greenhouse? Water catchment? Im so confused. Anyone who knows, please share with me.

@@GrowTreeOrganicsaren’t you avoiding permits for a dwelling by calling it a greenhouse . You don’t have a septic system per building codes.
@GrowTreeOrganics2 күн бұрын
@mahalaburton1055 well it is a greenhouse! There won't be any electrical installed either, but this is also a business and a place of business, which we need to be here to run the business. Us being in the greenhouse is just a side component of running the business. We'll have a septic system , it'll just be different. Besides the building "Codes" aren't laws they're guidelines that are supposed to help people with building, not keep people from building. But that's what it does and stagnates progress in building development. ✌🏾
@mahalaburton10552 күн бұрын
@ I’m sure Arizona some county’s are more liberal and conducive to to alternative forms of building unfortunately that train left Calif when 40 million people decided to move to my state. Yurts are the only unconventional homes allowed as long as it’s not really a home but a called a studio. Lots of work arounds harder with drones .
