Keith, Thanks for another great Odds & Ends video! I love those arrowheads/spear points. As others have said, there is no problem with not putting up videos when you are busy. This is a hobby of yours -- not your life. Work and family trump everything else, in my book. Thanks again! Have a good one! Dave

Cool points. On this weeks video content, yes, I find your machinist projects a great watch and instructive, but the choice between family and giving us something to watch, well there should never be anything to be apologetic about. Go with family every time, Keith. I am looking forward to seeing you at Stan's bask. I started watching Mr Pete. to learn some machining skills and then Keith Fenner at Turn Wright and you and Adom and Stan and Mr. Ox. and several more. Now I have to start making chips. I have a collection of casings for an 1/8 scale steam locomotive. Lots of machining to do. But fun. I live in the Orange County (Disneyland) area a few miles south of Stan. This is going to be great to be able to thank all oy you for showing me set up and proper ways to use my lathe and mill. I really do thank all of you.. (or All ya all as my relatives in Tennessee say.). See you in June. Larry Ogle

Hello Keith. Greetings from Scandinavia. I Watch your channel and especially enjoy the big Equipment restoration. But for a smaller aspect of restoration: I have got a satnley baily no3 and the threads on the adjusting mechanism for the frog is stuck.I have tried the less violent methods, but have to bring out bigger guns. Is it safe to heat around the screw or is the risk of deforming the sole too great? I suppose the least invasive is to heat the cast iron arond the threads, but hesitate in fear of destorying the plane.
@VintageMachinery8 жыл бұрын
+new and old tech You can heat up a plane like this. I actually brazed one back together one time with nice success. Be aware that heating it up will ruin the original paint (japanning), but if that does not bother you, give it a try. It is possible that heating it might distort things, but in this situation, it is useless as it is so what do you have to loose. When you do heat it up, wrap it up and let it cool down very slow.

I live near the Scioto and Ohio river bottoms Keith; it is a busy time of year for agriculture for sure. Hope to see more of your new shop and projects as I really enjoy watching. I have a flint lock muzzle loading rifle and would like to get more info on flint napping for it. I'd like to get some of that South Georgia chirt, also. I know that the better flint comes from England but we always carry extra flints so quality is helped out by quantity (not my favorite trade off as a former bricklayer!). Greg
@mikeroegner16378 жыл бұрын
+Charles Compton That part about the "better flint" coming from England is mostly an urban myth, Charles. Our domestic materials are every bit as good, and in many cases superior to the European stone.
@charlescompton44958 жыл бұрын
+Mike Roegner Thanks Mike, Greg.
@VintageMachinery8 жыл бұрын
+Charles Compton I am not sure how our South Georgia flint would compare to English flint for making a spark, but I have started more than one fire with flint and steel using South Georgia Flint.
@charlescompton44958 жыл бұрын
+Keith Rucker - VintageMachinery.org When I was a Boy Scout (a long time ago!) me and two other members of our troop started a fire with flint and steel in 11,12 and 13 seconds. Needless to say, we took first through third in the competition at a Camporee at Adams County, Ohio. I've got home movies of this and our Junior Assistant Scout Master starting a fire with bow, shaft and board in 45 seconds. The rest in the competition did not start a fire. I'm sure the Georgia flint will work fine. Greg

MANY FROM GTO MEXICO thank you for making these videos are very inforrmative . i have a question i need leadscrew for a clausing lathe 5914 mine is little damaged and is 7/8-8 acme x60" i do not know if it s the original because i tried to look in ebay and many places nobody has thad sizes .can you make me 1 or tellme where i can get it the other idea is if i can converter to 3/4-8 or 1"-8 or if someone has a manual can tell me if the 7/8-8 acmE is original .thank you very much
@VintageMachinery8 жыл бұрын
+Mic Ibarra It is likely that 7/8"-8 was standard for this machine. It was not uncommon for manufacturers to use a non-standard size for something like this. It would not be hard to make a new one if you can find someone with a lathe long enough and who has a follow rest. I could make one but I am sure that shipping to Mexico would be too expensive. See if you can find a local machine shop to do it for you.

+T.R. RACKLEY About the only way to know is to go and hunt them up in fields yourself! If you look at a lot of arrowheads, you can usually tell if they are old or reproductions. Most of the reproductions are much nicer than the ones you will find.
